I ride this bike since 2016. Not a single issue. Mounted givi v35 panniers with rapid release system. Looks much better compared to OEM panniers. This bike also beats most bikes where it comes to handling. So easy to ride even with a pillion. Top Honda quality!
Hi guys, Nice video. I do own a 2015 and I think it is one of the most under-rated bikes. Because I totally agree with you: it is a marvellous bike to ride. You do not notice the weight of the bike when riding: it is so easy to drive. No vibration through the handle bars or footpegs. Very comfortabel seating position. You can ride for hours without getting fatigue. It does not have ride by wire or riding modes. You forgot to mention that it has traction control that you can switch off, if you like. Just a button, not scrolling through menus. Some reviewers complain about the screen, which I do not understand. You can adjust the brightness and when the weather is bright, it looks as if the screen is fluoriscent: very good to read, even in bright sun light. I have an after market screen in my bike (MRA), which is smaller in size than the original one, but no buffeting at all. Just enjoying every minute on it. Greetz.
Hi, what would you say the main advantage is for going for the vfr800x Vs the old vfr800 from, let's say 2012? Looking for my next bike after selling the FZ1 and can't make my mind up.
I like your humorous way of presentation. i own a 20 years old vfr 800 interceptor (no vtec) and it is one of the most reliable motorbikes i ever had. (except my 1996 honda cb sevenfifty) the processing qualitiy is very impressive, because my bike is parked on street the whole season from march till december and except the central muffler there is no rust in any part. best regards from vienna.
Good review mate. I see one of these in the dealers but somehow I like the older model. Been riding for 35 years and had Italian and Japanese stuff. Probably had 60 odd bikes. I've picked up a 2012 model. 15k £3625. The V4 engine is an absolute peach. Not so much V tech kick but still goes really well. 240 kilos, so heavy, but very nimble. 35-40mpg. This is the last bike I will buy....When I decide to sell it, it'll be for fishing tackle equipment.

Some say: It's to heavy. It doesn't have an upside down front fork. It to expensive compared to similar bikes and so on. Well, I am the happy owner of the shown model, and I am very satisfied. I have been riding a lot of different bikes in my life (I'm 56) and I must say, I have loved all my bikes, but have never seen such a good build quality before - for instance stainless steel instead of plastic and painted bolts. I have a red 2019 cross runner which has full rear luggage and has a centre stand. Have a look at the Honda accessories brochure. What I wanted to know was what the difference is between mine and the 2020 version.

I do like the look of the bike, but where is the differential to the regular VFR? Obviously the Africa Twin is the dventure model and VFR is the touring bike so where does this fit? It looks more adventure orientated but has road wheels, I don't believe there is a X variant.
They have had to make this particular model to try and use up all the engines still lying about they've made over the last 10 years that haven't sold well in any other variant they've dreamt up. This V4 engine is just too overcomplicated and expensive to have been successful. The exhaust plumbing on a longitudinal 90 degree V4 has always been a nightmare, with the twin pipes from each cylinder bank competing for space with the front and rear wheels. 2 cylinder heads to make, V Tec valve operation, unliked by most of the press (but they are too polite to say). Rumour has it that it won't pass Euro 5 either, I suspect they will just quietly retire it from production along with the 1200 Crosstourer and make some hybrid thing that would sell better. They've dipped their toe into F1 and been making tremendous progress with hybrid engines. That's what Honda does best, lead with new technology.
You are right, there is no 'X' variant. It's name is the VFR800X Crossrunner. I don't know if you've ever owned a VFR800 but it's a great bike. Very few fancy electronic bells and whistles (to go wrong). To have a VFR800 with an update riding position is great as far as I'm concerned. I'm not sure I'm too worried about how it slots in because the AT is a very, very different machine.
patmick1 - I sort of agree with you,the VFR Engine has probably gone as far as it will go.Without significant investment its now at a dead end,with the FireBlade continuing with the IL4 and no sign of an RVF/RCV derivative as you say Honda is likely looking at the next stage in Engine Development.Personally I would like Honda to make a 500 - 600 cc V4 based Sportsbike in the mould of the Ducati Supersport,with the accent on much reduced weight and great Handling, with say 60 mpg,130 - 140 mph for real world riding.
Definately needs a proper update, LCD dash is so Casio , it's still another typical beige Honda I'm afraid. 'Doesn't do anything particularly well in my humble opion. Honda really seem to have lost their way over the last 15 years . Heavy, absolutely average performance, front fender as bad as a Ducati. Bland, they can dress it up anyway they like but it still lags in the sales charts for good reason, just like the 1200 always did too. Just wait until you take it for its valve check service, hope you've got a friendly bank manager. Only good thing about it is it still has an ignition key. Not for me, 🤔.

Toby I think you are bang on the money, I think this is one of Hondas best kept secrets but................ it needs an update, new dash, usd forks etc and Honda could do a couple of versions, adventure and touring, imagine that bike as a proper tourer, think Pan European on a diet, full luggage, cruise control big screen adjustable on a button 👍🏍
Honda have a rack and top box ,which was/is fitted as standard on some crossrunners And centre stand 😉 Mine has both 👍 Fyi...build quality may be better than most ,but it ain’t a patch on previous Honda vfr’s,blackbirds It’s a cracking aground bike ,let down slightly by budget rear suspension and buffeting/ noise issues which I’ve still not really solved despite spending a lot of time and money .
Why in the world have they held this bike away from the USA market? Retire the NC750X. Boring. Go figure. OK it is a fuel hog. BTW, your in a "no parking" zone. x
Good review guys. Love my 2017 Crossrunner. Agree with comments about TFT screen, it is difficult to read with the sun directly on it. Heated grip switch is good where it is, don’t have a problem. Sometimes think hand grips could do with an extra inch added to them as my hands always seem right on the outside edge! Overall, great bike, but if the rumours are true, they aren’t Euro V compliant, so Honda will soon stop selling them!

Ye - on the "budget side" this is a very nice bike. One should consider though - the cost of VALVE control / adjustment. This can cost pretty much on this one. But as a riding ( for this type of a bike ) experience - top 10 !
Did you check the price on that service - when the valve clearance need to be checked / adjusted ❓🤔 - because it is FAR from being cheap ‼️ I'd say - the heavy weight and the mentioned over thing, are the main drawbacks of this, otherwise pretty good machine.
I had one (2012) and it was the worst bike I have owned, that 240K's is high in the bike making it very top heavy, I stopped on a reverse camber I couldn't hold it up and and it threw me 2metres down the road, also, the engine is gutless until the Vtek kick's in, which is above 70mph when in 6th, which means the roll-on is poor and usually needs a knock down or two to do overtakes. That weight also makes manhandling very hard. I sold mine after 6 months. The later version (the one you were testing) is slightly better but not enough to convince me to buy another (I bought a Tiger 800 XRX which is a much better bike). I know Honda's are generally pretty good and good quality bikes (I swapped the Tiger for one) but this one is a stinker. Cheers, Gordon
Crickey Leo, a bit of a blast from the past, I'm not sure which bike your refering to (Honda/Triumph), if you meen the Honda, I did do a half day test on the "new" version" and I have to say it was much better, however, it still has the same issue of the power band i.e at 70mph (in 6th gear) the VTEC still hasn't kicked in, which when you want to say do a quick blast to overtake, requires a down shift. I agree that once it's kicked in, its really good. The suspension and handerling are good, but it's still top heavy (so was the Tiger 800). That is my opinion based on owning the Crossrunner (V1) and the Tiger 800 (and Honda CBR600, Hornet 900 etc, and test rides on the Tracer 900 and Africa Twin) I now have a X-ADV which I'm about to PX for a Tiger900. am really pondering this bike vs the standard VFR800. like the looks of the VFR800 more than the crossrunner but the seating position on the crossrunner is better for longer rides. classic buy with the head vs buy with the heart dilemma/=
Honda have lost the plot. This is a two-wheeled Ford Mondeo. There are loads of them on the road, but when did you last "notice" one? I'm sure it's a competent bike, but is that enough?
Dark ages? Key less ride.......perhaps you should look at security topics and comment on keyless ride options from an informed position rather than just a childish "its rubbish" attitude. A lot of people are starting to purposely deselect a keyless option given the rise in "hackers in the hood" stealing bikes with ease due to poor security design. Appreciate the option to view the bike in detail (decent high res footage) but agree with other comments as the interview lacks any comment on the actual ride itself. What happened to that?

I'm glad they solved the problem of having a keyless ignition by having a key. If the bikes running you know where the key is.

What happened to the front mudguard? The tyre will throw stones and carp into the radiator.
as with so many bikes, wish manufacturers would put them on as stock, but I guess that's how they make more money! eek!

Hi 17 inch road wheels where does it fit same place 1200 multistrada fits on road all day comfortable touring.

Firesail . It does. I bought a powerbronze extender for mine.
Tomoli travels....that front fender seems really tiny....was the powerbronze extender actually long enough to help?...
I fitted mine for a trip to Sweden and so far so good. Happy with it and fitted a new a Powerbronze screen too. Recommend both.

More like 600Eur BUT its every 24,000 miles vs 12,00 mile and 300Eur on an inline 4 (eg Triumph) so no difference in the long run.
Does it have any off-road capability?
In the Right Hands and with the Right Tyres maybe it does,but its probably too heavy for most to cope with.

Crickey Leo, a bit of a blast from the past, I'm not sure which bike your refering to (Honda/Triumph), if you meen the Honda, I did do a half day test on the "new" version" and I have to say it was much better, however, it still has the same issue of the power band i.e at 70mph (in 6th gear) the VTEC still hasn't kicked in, which when you want to say do a quick blast to overtake, requires a down shift. I agree that once it's kicked in, its really good. The suspension and handerling are good, but it's still top heavy (so was the Tiger 800). That is my opinion based on owning the Crossrunner (V1) and the Tiger 800 (and Honda CBR600, Hornet 900 etc, and test rides on the Tracer 900 and Africa Twin) I now have a X-ADV which I'm about to PX for a Tiger900. am really pondering this bike vs the standard VFR800. like the looks of the VFR800 more than the crossrunner but the seating position on the crossrunner is better for longer rides. classic buy with the head vs buy with the heart dilemma/=

Honda have lost the plot. This is a two-wheeled Ford Mondeo. There are loads of them on the road, but when did you last "notice" one? I'm sure it's a competent bike, but is that enough?

Dark ages? Key less ride.......perhaps you should look at security topics and comment on keyless ride options from an informed position rather than just a childish "its rubbish" attitude. A lot of people are starting to purposely deselect a keyless option given the rise in "hackers in the hood" stealing bikes with ease due to poor security design. Appreciate the option to view the bike in detail (decent high res footage) but agree with other comments as the interview lacks any comment on the actual ride itself. What happened to that?
