“You Will Come as Lightning” - Hymn to Constantinople

- Опубліковано 15 жов 2023
- A Greek song about the fall of Constantinople, the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire and a major holy site. The fall of Constantinople marked the end of the Roman Empire.
Song by Stamatis Spanoudakis.
“God forbid that I should live as an Emperor without an Empire. As my city falls, I will fall with it. Whosoever wishes to escape, let him save himself if he can, and whoever is ready to face death, let him follow me.”
- Constantine XI
English Lyrics:
You will come as a lightning
The country will have feast
The sea, the earth and the sky
In your light
I will wear white clothes
To touch you again
You light and, my heart, me
How much I love you
King of Kings Help the King
Mercy, mercy, God, of Heaven
Constantine Dragases Palaiologos
By the grace of God, Emperor of Romans
In the Gate of Saint Romanus
Astride on his whitelegged horse
Four Betas, mercy, mercy, Marmaras
Bosphorus and Black Tuesday
The sun shone, the earth sighed:
The City has fallen, the City has fallen
The Queen of Cities, golden gate
And Porphyrogenitus in the Red Apple-tree
The city was the sabre, the city was the spear
The city was the key of the entire Roman Empire
Fall silent, Mother of God, and don't cry much
Again with years and times will be Yours
In the Gate of Saint Romanus
You went away to another place
And an angel will bring you here
In right time
Inside the Hagia Sophia
We will find each other again on future liturgy

Wonderful version! For me, as italian and catholic, every 29th of may is a mourn and sad day, the true end of an era; Saint Constantine XI, great like Saint Constantine Equal to Apostles, died like a hero, with him Roman Empire is not totally dead!
Χαιρετισμούς από την Τρίτη Ρώμη❤ Moscow
Regardless of what denomination of Christianity you are the loss of Constantinople and the last of the Roman Empire is a catastrophic loss, may the Empire live on forever in our hearts.
WE'RE COMING BACK AS LIGHTING WITH THIS ONE

Lmao

Approved! 🇬🇷✝️☦️
ROME shall never truly die, not as long as one of us lives on to keep that dream alive, for we are its Legion, its countless, nameless, faceless, sons and daughters, we are here, we are ready, waiting for the call, for the return of the Augustus, the First Citizen, the Imperator,
Constantinople shall be reclaimed from the barbarians!
The crimson banner shall flutter in the winds once more, the Aquila shall rise with the sun again!
AVE IMPERATOR, SOL INVICTUS, DEUS VULT!
Try to take it then Rome empire has fallen accept this
GLORY OF TURKS
Kind of ironic you say Deus Vult when Augustus and Aurelian would both be considered heretics by the medieval Church.
@@lordedmundblackadder9321 As does the Church at times wonder why America did not commit to aid Greece in order to liberate holy city of Constantinople during WW I & after
You will wait for ever loser
God bless the Roman Empire.

Glory to the Byzantine Empire, long live the double-headed eagle ✝️
nice video man
And then, the Roman Empire fell, fell for good. After hundreds of years of perpetual decline the last stroke brought end to a glorious Empire that has influced us for the past millennia and it will continue to do so, Rome, the Eternal City, sacked multiple times, and Constantinople, the Golden city, burned and butchered.
Truely, a fascinating history.
Thank you for watching! Yes that is a correct byzantine flag, the famous one is the flag of the dynasty of Palaiologos. That one was commonly used by the orthodox church, Byzantium had no national flag.
Their flag symbol, that's the crest of Shamash / Utu isn't it?
Grandson of Enlil (El Shaddai)?
@@TheNumerosopherI’m unfamiliar with those, i know that shamash is an Assyrian god?? Never heard of it. This just represented the church which they led, thought it fit.
@@TheNumerosopherthe double headed eagle was used as a symbol of the ancient Hittites before being adopted by the Romans, where it was spread all over central-eastern Europe.
@@TheNumerosopher Yes it was, and it was the flag then adopted by Sultan Mehmed II and later became the symbol for Islam, which I find ironic from a religious and historical stand point.
@@TheNumerosopher No, what??? The double-headed Eagle represented Rome & Constantinople.
The "symbol" around the neck of the Eagle on some versions is the family monogram iirc.
The flag with the gold cross and the four firestriker-shaped Betas in the corners is the tetragrammatic cross, which is associated with the Palaiologos dynasty.
tf you on about???
I’ve noticed a small subtitle mistake near the end of the song but whatever you guys probably don’t speak greek lmao.
Lmao I love your atitude " but whatever you guys probably don’t speak greek lmao".
My ancestors were Greek and i can read Greek letters and know many Greek words and sentences.
i can feel it even if i don’t know greek
InsyaAllah
My respect for your opinion. God Bless you. 🙏
You aren't Muslim. talk about your self not all Muslims
Long life to the Roman Empire!!!🇮🇹🇬🇷

Yo i am the second Greek here
What's the flag from?
A common symbol used by the romans as well as a common flag flown by the orthodox church as explained in the pinned comment.

I mean technically i’m half greek, i think there’s one other guy.

I never said it wouldn’t, it’s just a song. No matter who you are you must understand the importance of that city.

The issue is there aren’t that many songs from the mali empire, if you have one you’d like me to use i’d go ahead and make a video for it.
