I just found out about Christina's passing and received this link. I'll confess to jumping to the tab on illness and grief (for now) as I was hoping to hear something about physical pain and grief. which are prominent in my life right now. Tremendous gratitude for her sharings/this teaching as I am confident it will benefit me and others. I look forward to listening to the full interview and thank you so so much for posting it. May all beings benefit. 🙏🙏🙏

Surprising that, upon her diagnosis of impending death, her mind went to notions of personal failure and not to the unavoidable law of Karma. May she always be well! Thank you for such a rich and wide-ranging interview!

Chris died earlier this week. She was 54. I'm the "friend" who introduced her to Chatral Rinpoche, translated for her and it was my cabin in Yolmo that she stayed at while taking teachings from Rinpoche.

@@Foguete400 - Chris was practicing right up until she left her body. Her husband called me after two days and said he thought she might have been in thuk.dam The cremation was the next day. No Lama was present to consider whether the time prior to cremation was "thuk.dam". The people who wrote about it were not present. Chris was an excellent practitioner and had amazing faith in her Lama. Her accomplishment does not need to be measured by days or exaggerations or hope and doubt.

@@Foguete400 - One of Chris' root Lamas, Tulku Urgyan Rinpoche, once said to me, "Worldly powers like flying through the sky or passing through rock are not how you should judge accomplishment in the Dharma. The true measure of accomplishment is that your defilements diminish and your compassion grows stronger." By this measure, no one who knew or met Chris can deny that she was a genuinely accomplished practitioner and a wonderful example for all other practitioners to follow. Tulku Urgyan's consort, Mayum Kunzang Dechen (the mother of Chokyi Nyima and Chokling Rinpoches) once told me, "A real Dakini is not someone who wears bone ornaments or is just married to a Lama. A genuine Khandroma always has two characteristics: First, she wants to spend her entire life practicing the Dharma. Second, she has real Compassion; not just occasionally or theoretically, but she is moved to tears at the suffering of others and wants to practice to lesson that pain that other people feel." If anyone unbiasedly looks at Chris Monson's life they will see clearly that she had both of these characteristics!
