I think the script and the dialogue almost imply that the listener dated this luck for something that would cause them to die. Like a surgery with extremely low success, or something similar. Why else would they be willing to play Russian roulette against a God of luck? They need the luck for a specific purpose and they do not need money to pay for anything. This to me is all the proof I need. They were staring down the barrel of a gun figuratively and they were willing to do it literally if it meant living.
