      1)Bored of Seoul??? There are SO MANY fine eating places as well as street food areas, thankfully 'big money' hasn't sanitised the street food stalls. I do like meeting foreigners every day in my current job, think I'd need to have something like 'Seoul guided tours' or an 'European cafe experience' shop to keep me happy if I moved there... around Konkuk or similar is where I'd like to be based.2) 'A family?'...Filipi2os are the most annoying asking "WHY HAVE YOU NO CHILDREN??" I just tell them equally rudely it's none of their business!😡😡 😂😂 3) 'Cousin Kim' up North, does anyone worry about him, or is he just considered a bit mad..?

    DINK = dual income, no kids. I was not familiar with that acronym. 😅
    My thoughts on the low birth rate is that it’s just inevitable. There’s a limited amount of resources and space for people to live, not just in Korea, but worldwide. Technology will be a huge factor to being able to stabilize any severe collapse. But, for now the symptoms of high cost of living, high housing prices, etc are going to further deter the current young generation from wanting kids. It’s the sign of overpopulation pushing against the limits of land and resources.

    I currently work in a kindergarten in a very remote area of Korea. We have just started our new school year, and surprisingly, we have a lot of kids. They opened two extra classes due to the demand, and there’s even a waiting list. I’m always surprised by the news, but when I see how many kids we have starting from age 4, I get kind of confused.

    • @mjmj734
      @mjmj734 6 місяців тому +5

      Same in my area! We have so many children here, had to build more public schools and classes due to complaints from parents. New big cities near Seoul(Hanam, Gimpo, Dongtan, Yeongjong etc.)are in the same situation).

      This is so interesting! There have been so many schools closing down these days across the country. Maybe they ended up closing other schools in other areas, and the students from the closed schools ended up at the school you currently teach at? These days they’re having to combine schools like this.

    I think being bored is relative. It's what you make of your time. So if you choose to be bored, ok then, that's on you. But you don't have to be bored. Kiddo keeps me busy, but I have hobbies outside of that that sometimes I get to do when I don't have parenting duties lol.
    When we went to Hawaii a few years ago, we wanted to swim with manta rays. That was a tour you could do. We totally wanted to do that, but because wifey was preggo, it probably wasn't a good idea. Just an excuse to go back and do it in the future when the kiddo gets older lol. But just reminded me that it's kinda similar to your whale shark experience you'd like to try.

    Kyuho felt respected by his mom for his decision not to have kids, was partly because his mom is well educated (she has a PHD). Most of our parents are NOT educated, they are Stubborn and controlling, always think their values are correct and enforcing onto the younger generation, therefore they dis-respected Us.
    As a result, many of my peers and myself left home, stayed single or childless and we loving our freedom of choice :)

    Europe and the USA also have low birth rates. Has Corea considered doing what they have done to solve this problem by opening up their borders to millions of immigrants from different races and cultures? This would bring new blood into Corea and would create more diversity, equity and inclusion.

I kept waiting to want to have kids and it never happened. I love my nephew so much and I'm going home for the birth of my niece in a month and so excited! He loves them to pieces, runs around and plays with them when he visits-then immediately passes out from exhaustion when he gets home 😂 It’s definitely not something either of us could handle 24/7, but being the cool aunt and uncle and going back to our quiet apartment ar the end of the day is perfect for us.

    I think a Vessi store has opened somewhere in the GTA, although I live 4+ish hours away (Windsor) and only go to Toronto once a year or every few years for just the day, but if I were to invest in a pair of Vessis shoes, I don't know if their shoes are good for someone with wide, flat feet, and feet that go inwards when they walk (I'm one of those people). I hope Beemo gets better and gets to enjoy more time playing with you guys and with his kitty toys (I wish we had a vet like yours for when our dog Snickers (he had glaucoma, heart murmur, and kidney failure) was still with us this time last year in his final days before the Rainbow Bridge).

      We’d love to see the stores in person! In our opinion, Vessi’s ‘Everyday shoes’ are great for wider feet-but since neither of us have flat feet that go inward, we can’t speak on that. Maybe next time you’re in the area to can try on a few style and see if any of them work out for you 👟

    The decision to have children is a big one. With the low birth rate for Koreans, it is a cause for concern. Here is the US, there is a growing voice of people who opted not to have children are now regretting it as they are older and aging. When they made that decision, it seemed like it was right at the time but they didn’t realize, until now, that it was dependent on their good health and abilities in their youth. Idk… it definitely needs more discernment and the long view of your lives together…

    • @2hearts1seoul

    Amren is my bae, fight me! 😂🤣😂 I love how savage she is and how she just gives no fucks about it.
    I got married 10 years ago (11 years ago this year wtf, why am I old?!), and I agree that even 10 years ago things were different (here in the US) and it was expected that we would have kids too. But thankfully I told my mom we're not doing it and she was like "yeah, mood I don't blame you, I don't regret having you or your brother but it's a lot of work and things are so different now." It was my MIL that wouldn't stop nagging us. Thankfully my SIL had 2 kids that keep her satisfied and now she leaves us alone. 😂🤣 Also my hysterectomy kinda took that off the table. 😅
    I'm with Sarah, I don't have enough fucks to give in my 30s for what people think about me. The only people that pertains to is my husband and my coworkers, lol. I work in a male dominated field, so I'm always aware of the fact that I'm the only woman on my team. Thankfully, no one on my team cares about that and I am valued and respected. But I still care what they think anyway cuz I don't want to let them down.
    Oh, I'm so happy to hear about Beemo! We had the same thing happen with our late dog, Pepper. Back in early 2019, she got really sick and the ER vet said she had a tumor in her stomach. In dogs, stomach tumors are cancer 99% of the time. So we made the appointment to put her to sleep and sobbed on the ride home, we were devastated. Then we got home and she did her patrols (she used to go from room to room checking our house for burglars or something lol) and ate a big meal and drank a bunch of water and nested in the covers and chased her tail... Acted totally normal. We were like WTF is going on? Long story short we chose not to put her down and just monitor the growth. They did a biopsy and it was also negative, but they weren't sure of the results either so we just kept an eye on it. Over time it shrunk and went away, and she was with us until this past November! (2023). She would have been 17 years old in December and I'm so grateful for the 4 extra years we got with her. The vet was straight up astonished!
    I hope Beemo graces you in the same way and gives a big fat middle toe bean to the Grim Reaper for years to come! ❤
    Have a great week, guys!

    I love the housing topic... ever consider moving (an hour's journey) outside of Seoul so it can be more affordable to buy an apartment/ or a house? Is that an option at all? (You gotten hijacked by ❤ whilst in SK 🤣)

    • @2hearts1seoul
      @2hearts1seoul  6 місяців тому +5

      Nope 😅 We love the accessibility, convenience, and endless options of Seoul. But even if we were just hour out, we likely couldn’t afford to buy a place. We’d have to move somewhere wayyyy out there.

    those sandwiches looked so yummy that i had to order food 😅
    btw i think that in most developed countries birth rates are going down- this is associated to higher cost of living and higher access to reproductive healthcare. in some developing countries, birth rates don't look the same across all socioeconomic brackets either... so a lot of factors compound.
    if developed countries want to increase their birth rates, they have to work on affordable housing, dignified wages, access to education, childcare and healthcare, gender equality, lgbtq rights, good adoption frameworks, parental and caretaker leaves... but those economies prioritize productivity and profits over quality living, then complain their markets are too aged... my dear capitalist, pick a struggle!

    • @2hearts1seoul
      @2hearts1seoul  6 місяців тому +2

      Those sandwiches are one of our greatest weaknesses, lol 😬
      Excellent points about what developed countries should be doing to increase birth rates. There are always going to be people who do not want kids regardless, but it’s the people who want kids (yet choose not to have them due to the issues you mentioned) where these improvements could make a big difference.

    • @veritush
      @veritush 6 місяців тому +1

      @2hearts1seoul oh, i absolutely agree with you - nothing can take away freedom of choice! i wouldn't have kids either, regardless of accommodations and policies.
      since having children is (and should be) a choice, i wish governments made that choice more accessible for those who want to make it responsibly

    Everyone talks about the personal reasons behind now having children (which are valid) but no one seems to talk about the societal impact. Unfortunately our economic system is setup where declining populations will trigger a society to collapse. During certain times in history, families would be encouraged to have tons of kids with a sense of national pride and collectivism. I don't see any hope for Korea's birth rate at the moment. It seems like mass immigration might be the only way to save the economy in Korea but culturally, Korea seems very resistant to immigration.

    I think south koreans (specially living in Seoul) are under the pressure of the public to wearing high cost clothing. It’s all about status.They prefer loud high fashion brands to show or pretend that they got quiet a lot of money (even if it doesn’t declares their credibility). Well, if you got a good eye in style (as both of you have) the way you dress up looks better and more sophisticated then any designer brand. The key is; quality.

    When I lived in Korea (2015-2020), going and doing things alone beyond the gym or whatnot was unheard of, and honestly I missed out on doing a lot of things because I was too scared to do them alone because I never saw anyone except maybe older men doing things alone, and once I went to a small diner by myself for a quick dinner and the ajumma's that worked there were either weirded out or felt sorry for me. And that makes me sad. The few times I visited Japan it seemed like a more feasible thing, but not in Korea.

    Thank you for the video. It’s great that Kyuho’s parents are understanding and supportive of your decision not to have kids. My hubs & I are also a DINK couple married for 9 years. His mom is super traditional and constantly pressuring us to have a child. Actually she doesn’t care if the child is not biologically mine, as long as it’s biologically his, I.e. she wants him to get an egg donor and surrogate to have his baby. I’m standing my ground and saying no but he might give in to the pressure. This is putting a strain on our relationship. Anyways, I love your videos and wishing you both the best! 🤗

    I love the conversations your channel opens up. Single person families are growing in the western world. I remember reading something about how in Scandinavia residential buildings were being built with single family units because it was the fastest growing demographic. I know these have been in Korea and Japan for a while, but in the last year there was a ramen shop opened in downtown Toronto that had single person booths.

It's better to be smart about your money and of course you can splurge on more things but use your money wisely and continue living a normal life because as soon you start spending too much your cost of life goes up and if your channel not continuesly doing well you can't sustain the life sfyle.. you guys are smart and i like your way of simple living.❤Fan from Aruba

    Regarding "Alone" culture, though, I will say Korea more than any other country I've been to, has the most places where its very tough to eat alone, since they require you get at least 2 portions or so - mostly traditional korean places likes bbq places, chicken gizzard spots, etc.
