So what do you think about my new home in the Philippines? Have you ever been to Freedive+? Have you been to other freediving academies? If so, what did you like and dislike about them? Stay tuned as I'll be posting weekly updates!

Sailing Siren I have never been to any freediving school or course: no time no money. But I would start below zero so that program you are following wouldn’t do for me. I hope you will also post some full freedive exercises uncut, and also show and talk about failures and difficulties you might encounter. Unless every single thing you do over there is a success and an effortless improvement on the previous performance. But that would be like a bit like most Facebook or Instagram stuff where they only show the good and positive stuff... it’s like weakness and failure are taboo nowadays. Everyone only seems to be only wanting to show how strong and beautiful they are and how good their life is. But life can get very ugly, so, please be honest about it!

@@jessiecherall5041 Haha, stay tuned then. I post videos about a week behind to give me time to edit, and this week has been a challenging one. I'm documenting both the successes and challenges so people get a realistic picture of what to expect if they do a program like this. Since starting this program, I've had to become very self directed in my learning as I'm already having a lot of obstacles. Your instructors teach you the skills, but there is so much that you have to do on your own to progress. Here's a rough outline of what I plan to cover in the next few months:
-Progression through the coursework (and lack thereof; I'm experiencing delays)
-Tutorials and trainings (things that have helped me overcome my obstacles)
-What it's like living here and training
As far as no time and no money, the cool thing about freediving is that even a level 1 course (2-3 days) will teach you what you need to know to be able to go out and do this for yourself and have a lot of fun with freediving! That's why I love it more than scuba diving. The financial barrier to entry isn't as steep. You really only need a mask and snorkel, and fins if you have the extra cash.
In addition, not everyone has to go out to become a freediving instructor. I just want to be able to document my journey so freedivers of all levels will have the opportunity to relate and share their experiences for those who might be interested in progressing through the sport. :)
Sorry for the novel. Let me know if you have any questions along the way if you decide to follow!

I just found your chanel today, realy interesting to see your jurney throu the world of freediving, I have always loved diving and like alot of people i have an openwater certificate but I dont realy enjoy it. This year was the first time I realized that freediving was a thing and not only holding my breath and diving down as far as i could. I feel kinda sad that i did not realize if untill i was 30 but now I have this new world to explore. Was there any specific reason why you whent wiht SSI and not any of the other organizations out there? Keep up the good work, it's really amazing and informativ to follow your jurney.

Hi Simon! Thanks for watching, and it's not too late to start freediving! Don't tell anyone, but I'm 29 and I just started freediving 2 months ago. ;) As far as SSI, I chose it because it was recommended to me by my instructors for the following reasons: SSI centers are everywhere, so any time you want to take another course, there's a good chance you can. As an instructor, since SSI centers are everywhere, you can find a job fairly easily. As a recreational freediver, SSI teaches you what you need to know in an easy and understandable way. As I've progressed in my journey, there are some disadvantages for me based off of what I want to do with my freediving. As an SSI instructor, you need to be affiliated with an SSI center, which makes for red tape trying to freelance. You'd have to start your own center or join one. If you want to get into competitions, SSI may or may not be the best fit, but it depends on what center you go to. I'm just now learning about this and starting to explore the possibility of training for competitions. I'll keep you posted! :)

@@thesailingsiren i promise not to tell anyone ;) I have been looking online for good places to learn but here in Sweden freediving isn´t a big thing, so now i´m looking for places to go to when the summer brake starts, not realy the best time to start freediving and being in nursing school at the same time :) right now i ́m looking at different dive centers associated with Padi and SSI. In the meantime i'm looking forward to your next video :)

@@thesailingsiren That is something that i struggle with, do you have any personal recommendations on places that are great for freediving and also scuba diving? the only scuba diving that i have done is in thailand so not a lot of variation.

@@simonlund8168 where in Thailand did you go? I have a few recommendations depending on your experiences. Why did you not enjoy having an OW cert?
