@@Chainy_Wainy logarithmic works here because it shoots up in difficulty and stabilizes in being very hard later on. If it's exponential, the rounds stay easy for a while, and then shoot up in difficulty later on.
1:54 was not actually Taj Mahal but Bibi Ka Maqbara in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. It looks kind of similar so it was confusing. Since Taj Mahal is much more greener.
Gotta give Oscar credit for uploading even though he only got the one. These maps seem stupidly difficult but even so you got so unlucky with the 50/50s. Actually painful seeing that Peru was where you were considering.
27:13 nice guess! As someone who made a bit of a study of indo ferns, I can say that combo did look very Indo. The hand-looking ferns are Adiantum and actually occur worldwide, you can see them in south Brazil too but they are common in Indo. The alternating leaves ones are Stenochlaena, a climbing fern especially common in swampy areas of SE Asia & Indo esp. but can occur in uplands. Finally the larger one on the right I’ve never identified but might be an Acrostichum species. You can also see some sword fern types in the grass on the left, which I consider a kali meta when they occur in full sun. The abundance of ferns fits Kali well but the mountain is actually crazy, elite guess
I tried to understand what he meant by old world ferns in the video, went to the comment section and someone is explaining 4 different types of ferns found in the picture, thank you!
Actually now am thinking the one on the right is just a young palm. Mangrove fern (Acrostichum aureum) or giant leather fern (Acrostichum danaefolium) are easy to identify and mangrove ferns especially are great indicator of tropical coastal locations, but Acrostichum speciosum can be trickier and its leaflets like mini banana leaves can make it look like a palm. In this case I’m going with young palm not a fern but regardless I haven’t developed an eye for it enough to be useful region guessing
I was watching one of GeoWizard's videos recently and he was like "this place looks like there's more money than sense" then after zooms straight into Saudi Arabia 🤣
Josh Zerka has just started playing GeoGuessr again and I was hoping that maybe you will be able to get a collab with him. He said in his newest video that he might like coaching from a pro!
7:43 Albertan here, we have hardly any deciduous trees up north in the province. It’s pretty much only white and black spruce and jack pine you’ll see up in northern Alberta. Alberta’s deciduous trees are mainly in the Aspen parkland in Edmonton area. But it’s dominated by trembling Aspen and balsam poplar.
Alberta also has Paper Birch. Though that doesn't really matter from a GeoGuessr perspective, since Paper Birch isn't easily distinguished from Aspens in street view quality images and the two have pretty similar ranges.
9:38 I live in escanaba Michigan which is only a few hours from Ontonagon where your coverage is from. The UP of Michigan is known for its mountains, locally called “the beavers”, for the plethora of beavers that live in the forests on the mountains. If you see mountains and it’s somewhere in Michigan, Wisconsin, or Minnesota, go to the western UP near Iron Mountain and you’re almost always right.
Me, an absolute idiot at GeoGuessr, screaming at my monitor that that is surely the Tatarstan flag. It's not that I was particularly confident that I knew the Tatarstan flag, it's that a round that hard would only be in that tier if the flag on the pole was relevant, and Tatarstan was the obvious contender with the colour scheme.
As someone who grew up in Minnesota and regularly went to the U.P. of Michigan to hike in the summer and snowboard in the winter I can tell you people around here for sure associate it with being some of the highest elevation in the upper Midwest. Porcupine "mountains" man! 🤣
10:36 my first thought upon seeing that pole paint was that it's in the colours of the Tatarstan flag, i just assumed it was a red herring and didn't think it would actually be Tatarstan lol
What made you think Europe at 22:00? I got cooked by most of these drops, but I thought that looked very pacific northwest and never considered Europe.
That west kalimantan mountain is in a very unique area with limited google coverage inland into kalimantan, as soon as you loaded in I recognized it from mapmaker, it's quite learnable I'd say!
16:44 I literally did the same thing! I knew it was Russia I even saw the Tatarstan flag but for some reason I had a brain-fart. I saw a Muslim temple in the distance (I even know that Tatarstan has a Muslim majority) and I thought well the closest Muslim place to Russia should be Kyrgyzstan. When I saw the real location I felt so stupid placing my pin in Kyrgyzstan.
If you need to get 20k minimum then: By start of third round you need at least 5k points Start of Fourth round at minimum 10k points And Start of Fifth round no less than 15k points Otherwise it's cooked.
10:36 I didn’t know the Tatarstan flag, but for some reason I thought Tartars were an Iranic ethnic group so I clicked in Tatarstan. Bad logic but good result 😂

I wonder how he chose these locations. So many of these rounds just feel like 50-50s where you need to get lucky on top of being skilled. If he included these locations after coming across them in a random game and getting them right, then respect, no complaints because clearly his skill level would be off the roof... but if it is just a super-skilled player choosing locations that they wouldn't be able to figure out with considerable certainty if they didn't know the answer already, then I think it is just a pretty sad challenge series.
