If you think watching it on tv is awesome you need to play in a match. I was forced to retire playing due to too many knee injuries I miss it big time all the training, physicality the buzz you get after scoring.
I'm from America and have been a fan since the first time I saw hurling, ironically when I saw Clare FIRST win an All Ireland title with Anthony Daly as captain. I didn't understand the game then but I vowed to learn and love it after seeing the entire match AND his awesome post match speech. So glad to see they've won one in the post UA-cam era so we can all watch together as a PLANET.
This is the first time i have ever seen and or heard of this sport and i have to say other then the odd scoring system i love it! Super exciting and it seems points can be scored on the fly at any time and the players are so intense. I will have to look to youtube for more hurling games as i have never even seen one aired in the US....
American hurler and footballer here (mostly hurler). I love this amazing sport and I'm so thankful that there is a great club where I live. I was in Ireland last year but didn't get the chance to go to a match unfortunately; I really hope to someday. This was a great All-Ireland final, I'm glad I was able to find this much in such great resolution too, many of the matches on youtube are too blurry. Thanks for posting this game!!
Bloody brilliant game third time I've watched the replay now! Clare were just playing a different class that day. real hungry and more fight than Cork. I am always raving to the lads at work about this game, nothing like gripping the Camán and letting loose on that sliotar. I believe it was a record crowd too, 82,276. Thanks for the upload Georgie boy! Many thanks from Australia
stoneyquarter991 I'm Australian and I love hurling! I think it's a great shame that hardly anyone here would have a clue what it was. In Queensland, where I live it's all Rugby League, which is rubbish compared with Gaelic football.
Well hurling is our second sport .but there is parts of the country where its almost non existent. In my part of country its mostly gaelic football with an outpost of soccer in sligo town.Hurling although everybody knows it and respects it has only 5 clubs compared to 24 gaelic football and its part of the same association they should promote it.I don't see enough RL to comment ,but union is good though and is strong here.I would say there is some hurling clubs in queensland mostly irish, but im sure they will welcome all comers.
ant4812 I believe stoney is talking about Sligo. Hurling is actually Ireland's first sport nationally. I live in Cork where there are dozens of hurling clubs and gaelic football clubs. Quite a few also manage both games. Hurlling is massive in Munster and Leinster. Football is bigger in Connaught and Ulster but even traditional football counties like Dublin have taken massive leaps in hurling in the last decade. Sligo would certainly be football orientated. Different areas of the country have different tastes but nationally, hurling is the bigger game. That's not meant to disparage football either, which is also huge.but I think there's something more romantic about hurling as it speaks to our ancient roots, back to Cuchulainn and the ancient Irish chieftains. We Irish like to think we have a warrior spirit and hurling embodies that spirit. It's a warrior's game, in fact according to some historians, that's how the game may have started, as a means to train warriors.
I'd say they should bring this sport over here to America, but we'd only fuck it all up. It's fun as hell to watch, and it doesn't seem to take much effort to understand it, especially if you're a hockey fan. I'm amazed this isn't more popular.
In ireland hurling is considered a symbol of irishness. The governing body the GAA promotes the culture of ireland as well as its sports. Its more than a sporting organisation. There is not an organisation quite like it any where in the world
When I see Gaelic Games, it saddens me that they may one day become professional sports. It's no exaggeration to say it would ruin hurling and football. The grassroots support in the communities would dissolve and they would turn into just more corporate sports like soccer. In many small towns, these sports are a lifeline, something that keeps local spirit and pride alive. Listen to the players when they talk about how proud they are to play for teams that fathers, mothers, uncles and legends and played for. Gaelic Games are unique and should be kept amateur.
I can see pay for play coming, but intercounty players will still have to have full time jobs. The market in ireland is to small for a full time big money league. One of the reasons you have large crowds at championship games is because there are not many games if there was maybe 2 games every week the attendance average would be well done plus sponsorship and television money is never going to be big.Hurling for example only fills croke park once barring replays so I wouldn't lose sleep over it yet.In the celtic tiger era when attendance levels were much higher the irish independent did sums on it and reckoned it was possible even then the highest salary would be 20 000 euro for a top player. The crowds are much smaller since and sadly look like they are on the decline and such a scenario is not possible now. With so little money involved there as well to keep it amateur and probably will.
Their is no real division like that in hurling or gaelic football all players for their local clubs even if they play for the county team(highest level) .When the county season finishes the players go back and play with there clubs and even if that club is not a high ranking club, basically you play for where your born.Even then local clubs can win their county championship which qualifies them for the provincials and if they win that they have a chance to win the national competition at there grade. mcgoo
lacrosse and hurling have a lot in common not really the style of play ,but in their origins. Both are native games thousands of years old shrouded in myth and legend and religion .Both were used as training and substitute for war.Ice hockey(as we call it) probably has its origins in this sport as well.

Scoring is in the net 3 and over the bar one but how come they keep the two scores separate? Do they just add up at the end to determine the final score and keep them separate so you can see how many actual goals we're scored as opposed to over the bar tries?

+Adam Coady So what? Basketball is a hard thing to get into if you are of average height, and none of the other typical American sports look as awesome as this. Chalk me up as another American who would love to see this here in the U.S.
To play basketball you have to be black which is fine and good luck to them. This is a white ethnic game that goes back thousands of years on this island to the great legend of Cu Chulainn so let's keep it that way. That's true diversity. www.lashgoleor.ie/hurls_for_sale/cu_chulainn.html
I just found out this was a sport because I'm American but I think we should have it in the east coast it's kinda like lacrosse and a lot of people like lacrosse in the east coast especially maryland where I live
From Australia, and I think that this sport has a lot of similarities with Aussie Rules. Incredibly epic, all players continuously contributing and pushing themselves to the limit, courageous 1v1 contests, and no doubt fair play is stressed, because playing tough and playing dirty are often mixed up, but in sports like this it is obvious how much easier it is to play dirty than within the rules and in the spirit of the game :) However, I can imagine knee and hip injuries, and Osteitis Pubis in junior players are pretty common injuries in the sport, but not much you can do about that EDIT: Just looked up a few players and realise they measure in feet and stone.... like real men!
Yes i think hurling would suit the australian character more than Hockey(field).Actually the first attempt to standardise hurling was in australia.Gaelic football is mention as the originator of ozzie rules, but i think it was probably more hurling.
The oldest and fastest field game in the world. And what a game! Played by warriors! That's why no-one will ever beat the Irish because we NEVER give in.
Its an old comment but regarding why hurling videos are not uploaded often.Well reason is the competition structure there is only one final per year unless in this case there's a draw. The number of teams in the top competition is twelve consequently the no. of matches is low. There is a league but its not as prestigious as the knockout competition and in anycase they are only 5 rounds. The top elite level is the county level they are club games all the but they are not always televised when they do the commentary is often irish gaelic, because hurlings governing body has gaelic revival as part of their remit and there is an all irish channe tg4l to broadcast them.tg4 do most of the league as well and the remaining are in english pay per view channel some of thes have been uploaded
As an avid hockey player and coach, I have to say, this game is wickedly AWESOME and fun to watch! I'm glad I discovered it.
You’re right
Amateur game and stadium...no players paid....the best field game in the world!

wBryang Never been to a hurling game myself even though i am irish seen it on tv loads of times .Where i live gaelic football is more popular and have been to many games.
I was at this game. Most amazing bight of my life.
Wow. Made me a fan today 🙂
Thanks for uploading Georgie
What’s the ball made of? Leather? Makes me think of Lacrosse, and soccer mixed together. Also are Hurling, and Gaelic football played in north Ireland as well? Or is the GAA only in the free nation of Ireland?
The ball is made of leather exterior and yes hurling and Gaelic football are played In northern Ireland
James Harrison thanks for the info 👍
This sport is awesome!!!!!!

what the name of this sport?
We need this in the USA!!!
YOU HAVE BASKETBALL
+Adam Coady So what? Basketball is a hard thing to get into if you are of average height, and none of the other typical American sports look as awesome as this. Chalk me up as another American who would love to see this here in the U.S.
To play basketball you have to be black which is fine and good luck to them. This is a white ethnic game that goes back thousands of years on this island to the great legend of Cu Chulainn so let's keep it that way. That's true diversity. www.lashgoleor.ie/hurls_for_sale/cu_chulainn.html
irish rover exactly
@@pookamcphellimy8540 not a very fair statement to make, nonetheless. James Naismith was a white Canadian, who invented the game
This is badass!
I just found out this was a sport because I'm American but I think we should have it in the east coast it's kinda like lacrosse and a lot of people like lacrosse in the east coast especially maryland where I live
You do have it there
thanks (from germany) for this
I am a red head and while growing up everyone thought I was Irish. I know I would have played this sport if it was available.
Well done Georgie, much appreciated
From Australia, and I think that this sport has a lot of similarities with Aussie Rules.
Incredibly epic, all players continuously contributing and pushing themselves to the limit, courageous 1v1 contests, and no doubt fair play is stressed, because playing tough and playing dirty are often mixed up, but in sports like this it is obvious how much easier it is to play dirty than within the rules and in the spirit of the game :)
However, I can imagine knee and hip injuries, and Osteitis Pubis in junior players are pretty common injuries in the sport, but not much you can do about that
EDIT: Just looked up a few players and realise they measure in feet and stone.... like real men!
Look at gaelic football it is like this but no helmets, hurleys and bigger balls that you kick I think its more simmilar
Haha, I have, and it certainly more similar :)
I was thinking more the culture is more similar relative to Soccer or Gridiron
right :)
Yes i think hurling would suit the australian character more than Hockey(field).Actually the first attempt to standardise hurling was in australia.Gaelic football is mention as the originator of ozzie rules, but i think it was probably more hurling.
How do these guys not die from exhaustion, with all the running
jamal woods they have experts fitness trainers so all of them are really really fit
can someone explain how at 12:28-12:32 running for 10 steps is not a foul? arent players only allowed to run 4 steps?
***** technically yes, but it's a very loosely enforced rule. In reality it's more like running for 2-3 seconds instead of four steps.
John Collins Alright thanks :)
***** He actually took around 7 steps. Watch in slow motion (shift +
+Klautsche because its not enough to beat Cork you have to have a good few refs decisions going against them to really p1ss them off
The oldest and fastest field game in the world. And what a game! Played by warriors! That's why no-one will ever beat the Irish because we NEVER give in.
Post 2024 game already
Great Game of Hurling
This seems interesting I would like to learn more about the sport
What a sport
I love how a typical all ireland w/ kilkenny in it doesnt have even 100k views but this has 300k views
I want to start a hurling team in Canada
electrifying entertaining!
Thanks for uploading, great!
Best sport in the world
It was an excellant match
How many broken bones do you get in one match?
Just telling an American sports writer this game needs to come to America.
Seán Leahy Oh good. Thanks.
I miss Hurling, the shoite we are seeing today, is not the same game..."
Love this sport

why do people not upload these more often!!!
