      If you think watching it on tv is awesome you need to play in a match. I was forced to retire playing due to too many knee injuries I miss it big time all the training, physicality the buzz you get after scoring.

    I'm from America and have been a fan since the first time I saw hurling, ironically when I saw Clare FIRST win an All Ireland title with Anthony Daly as captain. I didn't understand the game then but I vowed to learn and love it after seeing the entire match AND his awesome post match speech. So glad to see they've won one in the post UA-cam era so we can all watch together as a PLANET.

    American hurler and footballer here (mostly hurler). I love this amazing sport and I'm so thankful that there is a great club where I live. I was in Ireland last year but didn't get the chance to go to a match unfortunately; I really hope to someday. This was a great All-Ireland final, I'm glad I was able to find this much in such great resolution too, many of the matches on youtube are too blurry. Thanks for posting this game!!

I am always raving to the lads at work about this game, nothing like gripping the Camán and letting loose on that sliotar. I believe it was a record crowd too, 82,276. I'm Australian and I love hurling! I think it's a great shame that hardly anyone here would have a clue what it was. In Queensland, where I live it's all Rugby League, which is rubbish compared with Gaelic football.

      Well hurling is our second sport .but there is parts of the country where its almost non existent.In my part of country its mostly gaelic football with an outpost of soccer in sligo town.Hurling although everybody knows it and respects it has only 5 clubs compared to 24 gaelic football and its part of the same association they should promote it.I don't see enough RL to comment ,but union is good though and is strong here.I would say there is some hurling clubs in queensland mostly irish,but im sure they will welcome all comers.

      ant4812 I believe stoney is talking about Sligo. Hurling is actually Ireland's first sport nationally. I live in Cork where there are dozens of hurling clubs and gaelic football clubs. Quite a few also manage both games. Hurlling is massive in Munster and Leinster. Football is bigger in Connaught and Ulster but even traditional football counties like Dublin have taken massive leaps in hurling in the last decade. Sligo would certainly be football orientated. Different areas of the country have different tastes but nationally, hurling is the bigger game.
      That's not meant to disparage football either, which is also huge.but I think there's something more romantic about hurling as it speaks to our ancient roots, back to Cuchulainn and the ancient Irish chieftains. We Irish like to think we have a warrior spirit and hurling embodies that spirit. It's a warrior's game, in fact according to some historians, that's how the game may have started, as a means to train warriors.

    When I see Gaelic Games, it saddens me that they may one day become professional sports. It's no exaggeration to say it would ruin hurling and football. The grassroots support in the communities would dissolve and they would turn into just more corporate sports like soccer. In many small towns, these sports are a lifeline, something that keeps local spirit and pride alive. Listen to the players when they talk about how proud they are to play for teams that fathers, mothers, uncles and legends and played for. Gaelic Games are unique and should be kept amateur.

    • @josephboland627

      I can see pay for play coming,but intercounty players will still have to have full time jobs.The market in ireland is to small for a full time big money league.One of the reasons you have large crowds at championship games is because there are not many games if there was maybe 2 games every week the attendance average would be well done plus sponsorship and television money is never going to be big.Hurling for example only fills croke park once barring replays so I wouldn't lose sleep over it yet.In the celtic tiger era when attendance levels were much higher the irish independent did sums on it and reckoned it was possible even then the highest salary would be 20 000 euro for a top player.The crowds are much smaller since and sadly look like they are on the decline and such a scenario is not possible now.With so little money involved there as well to keep it amateur and probably will.

      Their is no real division like that in hurling or gaelic football all players for their local clubs even if they play for the county team(highest level) .When the county season finishes the players go back and play with there clubs and even if that club is not a high ranking club,basically you play for where your born.Even then local clubs can win their county championship which qualifies them for the provincials and if they win that they have a chance to win the national competition at there grade. mcgoo

      At county level, the season consists of a league competition starting in January and ending in March/April. Then the championship (a knockout style competition) is played from June to August.
      But with the pandemic things are different at the minute with the leagues finishing up over the next couple of weekends and the championship probably starting soon after. Just use www.gaa.ie/ for fixtures
      As for tv/streaming there’s GAA Go www.gaago.ie/ for people outside of Ireland

    My son and daughter have been playing Lacrosse here in Tampa, Florida for 5 yrs..and I love the sport BUT I can also tell you this Irish Hurling is way..way..way more exiting. The concept of a split Net Goal is awesome. Also, accommodating the entire team by the Net Goal to protect (block) a "penalty" shot is a completely different approach and...I like it because it is a TEAM EFFORT and NOT just the goalie.When is it coming to the U.S.A.?

    Scoring is in the net 3 and over the bar one but how come they keep the two scores separate? Do they just add up at the end to determine the final score and keep them separate so you can see how many actual goals we're scored as opposed to over the bar tries?

      Back in the late 80's and definitely in the 90's we got a fair bit of GAA broadcast here in the states. You had to hunt for it and it was primarily on cable channels no one cared for and at times no one was watching but it DID exist. As the networks got suckier here and the internet took over for video post 2002, the level dropped off in GAA coverage as it did for Aussie rules, which I'm also a huge fan of.
      I remember seeing the entire 1995 final as a young man LIVE in America on a Sunday and thinking that Clare that day and Anthony Daly in particular were awesome. I vowed then that I'd learn more and truly appreciate this lovely code. But you're right, we need more GAA in the states.

    • @joeococonnor
      @joeococonnor 10 років тому

      Hi Isaac, we don't keep percentages in the same way that you do with Baseball or Football. This game though demonstrated some top quality goal scoring. The number of goals scored here is very unusual.

      StFidjnr It is and it isn't,its the most passionately followed sport and it is entwined in irish history and mythology the way no other sport is except may be for gaelic football ,but to a lower degree.Its not however popular all over ireland just munster south leinster galway and the nationalists of antrim,but everywhere else its gaelic football or soccer and rugby in terms of participation and interest.It would have more than rugby,but way behind football and soccer.

    From Australia, and I think that this sport has a lot of similarities with Aussie Rules.
    Incredibly epic, all players continuously contributing and pushing themselves to the limit, courageous 1v1 contests, and no doubt fair play is stressed, because playing tough and playing dirty are often mixed up, but in sports like this it is obvious how much easier it is to play dirty than within the rules and in the spirit of the game :)
    However, I can imagine knee and hip injuries, and Osteitis Pubis in junior players are pretty common injuries in the sport, but not much you can do about that
    EDIT: Just looked up a few players and realise they measure in feet and stone.... like real men!

    • @daraj02

      Yes i think hurling would suit the australian character more than Hockey(field).Actually the first attempt to standardise hurling was in australia.Gaelic football is mention as the originator of ozzie rules,but i think it was probably more hurling.

    why do people not upload these more often!!!

    • @stoney7145
      @stoney7145 8 років тому

      Its an old comment but regarding why hurling videos are not uploaded often.Well reason is the competition structure there is only one final per year unless in this case there's a draw.The number of teams in the top competition is twelve consequently the no. of matches is low.There is a league but its not as prestigious as the knockout competition and in anycase they are only 5 rounds.The top elite level is the county level they are club games all the but they are not always televised when they do the commentary is often irish gaelic,because hurlings governing body has gaelic revival as part of their remit and there is an all irish channe tg4l to broadcast them.tg4 do most of the league as well and the remaining are in english pay per view channel some of thes have been uploaded
