Your hair looks amazing. Great video. You have a great stylist. I love how open he is. Not all stylists include their clients in the conversation they just cut it and you hope you like it. I have a good stylist that cuts my hair very well but she doesn’t style it but I am ok as I would prefer to do it myself and save the money and put it towards new products. Have a great week.
I love the shape he gave you! I’m really thankful for the white shirt comment from him! because I always wear black so I’ll wear white or something light for the cut so I can see where my hair really needs cut. I’m still in transition but my hair is down to the middle of my bootie so I’m thinking 10-15 inches off and with that big of a change, I want to see it clearly.
My texture is very similar to yours in texture and pattern, and I tend to have the same issues that you talk about. What the stylist was saying about the density is very true. I learned that I like to keep my layers long so that I have a stronger perimeter line with a face frame that goes higher up and connects to the back. When I have tried to add shorter layers for fullness I found that I hated it every time LOL because it takes away the density at the bottom. I thought that I was weighing my hair down at the roots with products but it turns out that was not the case and that the styling method I used was the important factor in getting my curls to spring up. Like you, I have sections where the roots don’t curl up as much ( in the lower back part of my head and it drives me CRAZY), so brush styling makes a big difference here, and then steaming my hair right after diffusing so that the roots curl up more to match the rest of the curls around my head. Since our hairs shed at a rate of around 100 a day, after a few months what was cut more bluntly will have appeared to thin out, so trims to even out the ends are important so that the curls don't look thin and stringy. For everyone how long they need to wait for a trim will vary, but 3-6 months is a good rule. With experimentation we can all find the recipe we need to make our curls look how we want them like you have 🙂
Wow do you know what…that is so interesting what you said about the steam because after drying my hair if I start cooking something with steam - like boiling pasta I realise my roots start to randomly curling up! Refresh hack 😂🫶❤️
@@sophiemariecurly Yep I do this purposefully after every wash and diffuse. If I don’t then I wont get my root volume. It also brings all the curls to their most natural bouncy state and makes them more uniform all around my head. It lasts the next 3 to 4 days better until the next wash. I use steam to refresh on day 2, but often days 3 and 4 (or 5 if I wait that long) I can just use water. I use a hand held clothing steamer and I make sure to direct the steam right onto all of the roots and then the mids and ends making sure not to burn myself.
This is exactly what I need. I have been putting it off because I wanted it long for my sister’s wedding. But now that it is over, I am getting a haircut asap. Your voice is so soothing btw. You should do some kind of podcasts ❤
I can't believe the difference having those ends trimmed! And youre so right, it's so difficult to find a good hairdresser that understands and can work with curly hair. My hair at the moment it so stringy, ive lost my defined curls its so very dry and limp and wirey.. I absolutely hate it so much right now that it's upsetting because i feel like ive lost the volume and my curls forever,.. Even when I'm putting my products through my hair after washing, I'm scrunching but no curls are happening? I feel at a complete loss and i don't know what to do! 😢
Gorgeous..l need to learn how to look and touch my hair and realize something is wrong with cut or ends or anything. I've been straightening or cutting my hair for years when I couldn't stand the frizz. Just embraced my waves and few curls in February finally and I'm 65. You're so young and intimately tuned into your hair texture, thickness, and how your curls will fall. I'd have loved that at your age. Right now I feel like all these products I've tried are fine. It's user error.😅 I hope you enjoy making your videos like I have enjoyed watching them since I found you a few months ago!😊
What a difference, I find the same when I go and get a curly cut. I am growing mine too and have been for about 3 years and a cut definitely helps keep it from getting crazy as I grow it. The only issue I have is that there are layers which I love but it looks a bit like two hairstyles at the moment. I need to get that sorted when I go next!! Thanks for the video, really interesting, your hair looks fab .😀👍❤️
I've never been attached to hair lenght, so I am on Team Go-Ahead for a stainless steel treatment if your hair needs it. Your hair is beautiful but these results are stunning!
Beautiful cut - I think I have the same moisture overload issue. Dry ends and soft flat root. It also needs a cut (booked in at Spring in a couple of weeks - can’t wait!). Looking forward to seeing how you cope with the moisture issue ❤
It looks soooo good ❤ I've been trying to grow out my hair as well, but it's been too long since I've been to the hairstylist (almost a year already) and I have layers which now are a mess. I already got in contact with the hair salon but their books are full and they're the only natural hair salon in my city, so I'll have to wait a bit more. I'll ask my hairstylist to dry cut first to see how it will look like
Frankly your hair looked amazing before the hair cut. Nothing wrong there. I understand if you wanted a cut to shorten and revitalize it it’s ok, but I didn’t see a problem. I liked the pre cut hair way more. No matter what your hair is great, but length is hard to keep, so I would have kept most of it and trim very minimally. Good news, it will grow again!❤
I have a much looser curl pattern so I find I can get a conventional wet cut with a rounded shape. I'm trying to grow out my bob haircut so skipping the trims is so tempting.
I work from home and have weekly Zoom meetings and sometimes take pictures for the company newsletter. My hair always feels meh. Wondering if there are particular styles that look good on webcam. My skill level is probably 2/10
How did you find a stylist that can style (not just cut) curly hair? Every curly stylist I've been to has not been able to style my hair adequately. It's so frustrating and it makes me not want to get my hair cut.
To be honest, it was luck! 🍀 I met Nikos very randomly he wasn’t recommended by another, and he is also very passionate about his job so has always been open to learning different methods when it comes to curls. I know some people who bring their own curl products with them to salons and show their hairdresser videos to help educate and visually show how you want them to style it. If you’re happy to share your general location in the comments I am encouraging others who have found a good curl specialist to comment their details on this video! 🌎🫶
@@sophiemariecurly I live in Central Florida in the US. I've brought my own products and shown stylists how I normally style my hair, but it just doesn't seem to click.
I cut my hair myself with professional scissors at home, just in front of the mirror (didn’t really want layers, so didn’t need any help from others) Also, I’ve heard at other techniques of cutting your hair at home for layers=volume=curlier roots, but I didn’t try it myself😅 Ig, you can (try to)do your cut yourself. I got my scissors from a marketplace Good luck!
I would love to see your hairstylist cut someone’s hair who is more wavy and lower-med density. I feel like curl specialists are great with super curly hair, but might not be worth it for wavy curls? It’s so hard to justify the high price tag of a curl specialist if there’s not much of a difference for a wavy. Your cut is beautiful though!

Same here! I'm growing out a bad cut to repair the density. It's taking a while, but it's getting there
Omg that top makes your eyes look so gorgeous

Love the cut and shape. Also love the face framing. Going to get my hair trimmed in July and I think I will try the face framing. 👍🥰🌹

I’d love to see what a curly cut looks like straight. I have my hair cut as a straight haircut but don’t think it works as a curly style.

What do you ask for your haircut? Long layered?
