  • This video has been on the radar for a while now and it has just been a matter of getting it together and uploaded.
    Thats age old question of which one is better?! We have also slid in a cheeky review of the Beta Evo 300 4T factory into this video as well.
    This weeks episode is jam packed as we have also got the odd product review in there as well. As always completely independent and all of the products and bikes that we review we give an honest opinion. Although we always love to know what our subscribers think!
    We go full for tilt in this video putting two brothers head to head as well as their pristine bikes!
    If you are the kind of person that loves a bit of bike content (regardless of what style of sport) this video is for you you!
    This is TRIAL TUBE!

    Nice one great to see you and Ash head to head as it gives us more time to see how to a attack the sections i.e take time figure it out and don't go till its all goods all the stiff I just forget and try to remember in the mud eat afterwards, Head to head same sections just great to see how the bikes work and the technique required to deal with the bike and the section. The camera does alter the feel considerably so thanks for the hill demo to allow is to gauge the steepness and plan the section with you as you work it out and explain what and why you do what you do. The internal monologue is really interesting. cheers Dan see you soon chap thanks.

    100% I believe a 2T is easier to ride, but the 4T is just so much more rewarding when you get it right, and if all else fails I just love the sound of my 4RT, and that cheers me up when it’s all gone wrong. If I was riding week in, week out and cared where I came I’d may an Evo 2T. Probably a 200. I’d still keep the Mont though. It’s a keeper. Good vid. Enjoying them.

    Love watching trials stuff and trying out techniques to help me in the tight stuff when trail riding and always looking for a cheap trials bike.

    May I just add that we have just brought home 2 Armstrong’s that are in need of total rebuilds. Me and the lad had a confab and it looks like we are going to lose the modern bikes as it’s just way too expensive. The wife is kicking off because I bought a TLM today too. All in need of some serious TLC . I don’t know how to link to you but these 3 bikes will be amazing. We are looking at dropping the frame on the TLM for our build. Firstly we need to get her running properly then strip and rebuild. She rode very nicely but she was top heavy, the front wheel needs moving in slightly, a quick shuffle on the headstock, a cut and shut kind of thing.

    I think you really need to be a really good rider to get the most out of a 4 stroke. I remember test riding the 2020 4t apparently the weight is upwards of 80kg when full of fluids. Like that is insane when compared to some 2 strokes like the TRS weighs 65kg and the vertigo at 68kg. Changing the oil in the 4t less is great and you can get 4-5 litre container of castrol or something equivalent. Definitely a lot easier to service than a 4rt , changing gaskets and the pain of getting that oil filter in.

    Did you get a sense of how the transfer gearing is? Where I would be riding the transfer gears (4+) would be used often. Is the 4T being a 5speed an issue for this?

    • @TrialTube
      @TrialTube  4 місяці тому

      The bigger gears are always extremely long and it’s only for road work. In that case the four stroke can handle the long gears for a higher period of time at higher revs. That’s why a four stroke is able to make time up down the road in Scotland!

    It was touched on in one of the comments, I see on other videos the 4RT needs a gasket change to get to the oil filter every 15hrs, what does the Beta 4t need in way of maintenance?

    • @TrialTube
      @TrialTube  3 роки тому +1

      After a lengthy convo with my 4 stroke riding brother. He is saying there is a sump plug gasket only and the filter is held in by three bolts and an o-ring (that doesn’t have to be replaced every change). As riders we are also supported by Silkolene. So oil changes are frequent!

    In all seriousness (just for a moment) did your brother go from the Beta to the Montessa because the fuel injection? I'm thinking of trading out of my Sherco (friend has a Beta 4 st - I prefer the power delivery). I don't notice the weight difference so much but it is 10 extra pounds, maybe i could cut off an arm or something :-))

    • @TrialTube
      @TrialTube  Рік тому

      The Beta 4 stroke is a nice bike as a 250. But the Montesa rides a lot better with a more useful power curve in the short stroke engine. If you wanna go four stroke then be prepared for the extra weight. It’s a lot. More than you think…

    What you feel is what you feel, you can't measure it in any way. But this low center of gravity of a 4T, when it has chains, cams, valves .... a taller head overall with extra bolts, ... and the pipe and carb are also higher, how can the CG be lower? Is the 4T crank heavier than a 2T? I thought the only thing heavier in a 2T was the crank.

      The four stroke rides a lot more “front end heavy” which doesn’t bode well for grip…

    First of all I have to say this. Have you seen the 4t Meister on a push bike....he is sub human. A lot like our Dougie before he fucked up on a 4t, it’s natural ability, Dougie is a 2t god and would have won more if he hadn’t gone 4t? That’s out of the way now. 4t you have to be a very strong person where as 2t you have a good pick of machines. My lad has gone went across to a Beta 200 and that’s just what he needed then .The offering from Montesa is shear power off the mark. They just offer a high end bike that’s not manageable. Montesa need a kid friendly bike not just a world beater. GasGas used to offer that but not now. My lad now is on a Vertigo bespoke bike, a 200 . The cost is outrageously crass.
    Can we please look at the cost. Doubled in 10 years and so have the consumables...tyres that 10 years ago were £45 are now £100 it’s out pricing itself.

      HI Paul, Thank you you for watching! (Also hopefully sharing?)
      Great question! After riding both of the bikes I can honestly say that they are completely unique. Both are rather hefty units and take some moving around I am not gonna lie! It's completely obvious that I love the Beta brand and I really look into how a bike rides and feels through the head angle and positioning of the pegs for me personally.
      So on that notion I can say that I prefer the riding position on the Beta but I feel the Montesa is the more responsive engine.
      I understand that doesn't really help but that's what I have taken away from both bikes. They are simply so different. I did like the Mont though. Which I didn't think I would. (I am also a fan of the big Japanese companies being involved still in trials.)
