Trial Tube - The Best Trials bike ever created. The Honda RTL.

- The title for this one is pretty self explanatory.
There has never been a bike that holds the impact that the Honda RTL has had over the decades. This Bike is and always will be an ICON!
The bike that I loved as a kid. The bike that is now truly in an affordability class all its own. A bike that sounds like no other and numbers are very quickly dwindling of these giants of trials history.
We have also decided to set up a charity in this video for those that are really struggling with bike addiction as this bike is the one that really is the worst "fix" of them all.
I hope you enjoy the content as always and thank you for watching, liking and most of all sharing the sport and history of trials!
This is Trial Tube!
one of THE best youtube videos ive ever seen!
This has made my year!!!
Well RTL wasn't easy for me to find, but my best friend and I took the 1986 Honda Reflex 200 and made it into a trials bike. To me that was the most fun bike I ever rode! I absolutely love it.
Love my 86 TLR 200. Thanks for the video on this bike, I did not know about it.
I never grow tired of your humor! Good stuff,,
Haha gets me in trouble
It's funny that my retro trials bike is a 1976, a decade older than their fancy 80s retro trials bike. It's the only trials bike I've ever ridden.
Well…the term retro is usually an 80’s thing
Class video again Danny 👏👌
Just bought my first trials bike. I absolutely love it after only two rides on it. Its awesome.
Thanks for such brilliant and funny content.
You are welcome and this channel is built to entertain an introduce those new to the sport!
Come on friend, don't leave us hanging, what bike did you get ?
Very useful to see real expert riders on Trial Tube.
What ya trying to say lol
Love the quality of the RTL. I owned both pink drum brake and later disc brake model. Three great points = Loved the build quality. They looked great. They sound great. Three Bad points = they had the dreaded 4 stroke cough and stall at the most inopportune moment which cost one dearly. Price of parts were outrageous. And they were gutless compared to the Fantic , Beta, Aprilia and two strokes of the time. I rode my pink one in the 1988 Portmouth WCT and never had the power to get me up most sections, which turns out to have been a blessing in disguise. Then rode the SSDT and just went for a finish, the RTL did me proud as I had to do NOTHING to the bike for the entire 6 days. Shame on me. Key word = reliable .
What I do to help with the stumble off idle ( on my TL 250 ) is to advance the timing 5 to7 degrees. Give it a try. It won't hurt the engine. Maybe increase idle speed a bit also.
Does anyone know how I can find an RTL preferably in the USA ? I can't pay for international shipping. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, we're RTL's ever released to the public in 300 or 350 cc displacement ?
I can see why you wanted to get the video right . Top subject lots of camera angles ,fine editing. its great to learn about some trials history for us late comers to the sport. Thanks pal
Thank you!
Very funny guy.
Great video, well done, inspirational in fact.
videos keep getting better
Thanks bud don’t forget to share (please)
Great video Danny 👍
Cheers bud!
Its been more than 60 years since Honda's 50cc model was equipped with a 4-stroke engine.
It has a special idea.
Honda also had a 4-stroke engine on the 〝Trial motorcycle〟 from the beginning.
Honda's engine is currently installed in the new 〝Montesa〟in Spain.
I am also riding the 1988' TL125.
Its a lot of fun.
They are the four stroke masters !
The Honda / Montesa hybrid, isn't that interesting ?
@@michaelmangrum5460 Was just wandering what happened with that! Did it lead anywhere?
Just brilliant👌🏻👌🏻👌🏼👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you so much!! the support is really appreciated. Don't forget to share for us
I don't like four bangers, but I agree the RTL is the best bike ever and the only 4t I could contemplate.
My memories of this bike were watching Steve Saunders riding in the Sheffield indoor trials in the late 80's. I was actually there, but cannot remember if this was a world round event. I think Steve won it on the Honda. I know John Lampkin was riding a Fantic and did not do too well.
Great vid! Love to see a comparison between a TY250R and an RTL !!!
That would be a good idea for sure!
the pink rtl is the manliest motorcycle in history. The color pink in Japan is traditionally a samurai color and represents the cherry blossom. i love this bike!
I didn’t know that and it makes sense!
I'm a big fan of Japanese trials.
Brilliant again Danny 👏👏👏
Love the bikes ❤️
How shallow is the head angle & did the folks bottom out they looked very soft
Keep up the great work 👍👍😁😁
They never bottomed out but it was like riding a set of Ski’s lol
another great upload
ta
Cheers buddy appreciate the support 1000%
Love it 💯☝️
Cheers!
A buddy has one of those. Pretty cool machine
Stunner!!
Only bike I've always wanted and never found the right one
Ride a RTL for Sammy back in the day . Bloody awesome bike
Indeed proper monster!
The legend appears...Clarky!!!!
He was great all day tbh and his usual upbeat and positive self!
I remember the price when they came out....gulp! But what a bike....and the factory bikes.....full fat factory.....no cost cutting!
Just bit of advice bro, drop the cut ins please....
Haha cheers and I get that from all those in the more senior generation. But the kids love em. My demographic is from 6 years old to 85. Not an easy one to please.
Less of the senior bro!!!
I’m prob fitter than ever!! Age is in the mind!
And the cuts are bit ... 💩 so there!!
Anyway keep at it dude!!
Yup RTL was the best , wish I still had mine !!!
Correct
Great!!
Thanks I love this one
Nigel Crowther had one up west yorkshire
These guys has more skills than those factory riders back in the day😃👍👏
Time moves on!
Do a TY250, front disc! Had one when I was 14, upgraded from a TY80!
I think a video on the TY mono is more than ready for a good researching and creating 100%
Like to see modifications on the white one, heavy bike so keep revving when mounted on the bike
Send me a message to 07340 756044 and I’ll tell you what I’ve done
@@benbutterworth3759 hi Ben, can I contact you via email ? mine 372nchoy@gmail.com, sorry for late reply
had to watch this again
better second time round
My mate had one in the 80s,,, and he got all the chick's,,, 🤔 jammy barsteward!
Understandable. Completely!
Best bike ever made this is why i have 2 lol dont tell the wife !!!!
wow you are so lucky and rich, I only got 1988 model but with many crash now
@@normanchoy4075 Hi Norman, you said " rich " to the guy with two RTL's.
Is that what it takes to own one ?
Sweet vid
Thanks bud don’t forget to sub! 🤘
@@TrialTube don’t worry I have ahaha
@@TrialTube I’m hoping you guys become more popular and shed a little light on trials we need more channels like you!
Danny in your opinion what’s better the 1999 beta techno or the gas gas
Techno!
Good! My dad had lots of gas gas’s but then tried a techno and fell in love and he’s never stopped riding beta other than in 2001 and 2002 when he had a Sherco and a scorpa
I have always said that if you are riding motorcycles or flying planes in to your target you have to go with Japan
you didn't mention Steve Saunders as a RTL rider; or did I miss it?
I do in the explanation of the history of the bike, around the 2.28 area.
@@TrialTube Whoop sorry!! I'm meant to be working so I have half an eye on the video!! My dad (the late Wilf Couldwell; a DOT works rider form the 60's) had a RTL back in the late 80's; I remember him repainting the tank in pink to keep up with Lejeune/ Saunders!😄 I remember he used to put a small amount of Castol R in the petrol; it made it small gorgeous. The sound of the RTL was amazing, happy memories. great video BTW and its amazing how the bike can be ridden in the modern way
Also how did you get into pedal trials and moto trials
Both through my Dad!
Ok, you should try a UA-cam livestream sometime and how do you feel about being able to ride again from the end of March? I’m ecstatic about it
me sitting waiting for this vertigo vid tonight are you gonna go green now
Missed the comment!
Where was this episode filmed?
At a private venue. We don't disclose private venues but will have some episodes reviewing some venues in the future.
Brilliant thanks Danny.
Loving the channel by the way!!!
I talked with you when me and some Mates did a trials day with Stu Day at Leek....I’ve been undecided whether to get a trials or enduro...now I’ve bought an enduro bike I’ve watched this episode and kinda wish I’d gone for the trials bike!! 🙄
@@paulgilhooly382 Don't worry bud there is still time and you can always change back there is no law that says you are just one type of rider. 👍
Sherpa T
Bikes that you can sit on the seat and ride
You can do that with the new ones it just isn't that comfy lol
Yes tell me about it but the new ones are lighter and better looking but I do have a love for old ones that takes me back to my childhood
You need to have a ride on a real "mans" motorcycle an Ariel HT. Just ask Ben and Jack!
They are going on the agenda as this has already been discussed 🤘🤘
If this is the best trials bike ever made....why are they not using them in the championships?? Hmmmmm
They are a classic and a legendary machine. From a time where trials had some of its biggest advancements . That’s why 👍
@@TrialTube Yeah back then I agree...but is it really the best trials bike ever made...a better bike hasn't been developed since?
@@krislambert6625 One as sort after and as legendary? Or as rare? Or as Iconic for just the parts alone? If the answer doesn't come to you straight away then....
@@TrialTube the best trials bike ever created...literally the title, but it is not because there are better ones now so makes no sense.
And don't get me wrong,I'm sure it was at the time :)
Proper bike porn 👏👏
Too right!
Hello, just out of interest, watching trials riding on UA-cam what do the trial riders carry in the backpacks, surely they don't carry their sandwiches around with them.
Well actually…..we carried sandwiches today! 🤣 mainly a small set of tools and the occasional spark plug etc. Plus a drink!!
They might be camel packs filled with water.
You can get a Reflex half the price.... ha ha.
Reflex??
Is the Reflex a proper trials bike ?
so wot is it worth bud
Most are 6K upwards!
@@TrialTube thats not bad considering most/lots of classis trail/trials bike are now around that mark.youre correct that the rtl is the bees knees! cheers for the vids bud
@@billiwhizz221 I Appreciate the comment man and they are not the best to ride (unless you put a lot of time into the build) they are just an icon!
"there not a sexist thing they come in pink" not sure that sentence would go down so well with a feminist 👀
Omg, not another one..
First lol
Thanks for the support!
I’m getting a beta 125
Good lad welcome to the fray!
