I am so sorry for those addicted to drugs or committed of non violent crimes to have to go through something like this. It really does sound horrific. This is one of the best forms of scared straight I have ever seen. I realize that prison is for criminals but I have an issue with addiction being treated the same as a violent crime in this country. No one should have to be treated this way unless they hurt someone else with no care for that life.
Thanks for your comment 🙂 I must say I agree with you. I do not believe that drug use and murder should receive the same repercussions. While length of sentence may differ, punishment does not and honestly putting people in these environments (especially in mens prisons) gives people more problems than they had when they went in.
@@therecoverytherapist I don't have first hand knowledge (thank God) but I can imagine how that kind of experience would emotionally and mentally affect someone for the rest of their life. I was one of the lucky ones addicted to drugs, I got help and to treatment at a young age (18). I am now 60 years old have been clean ever since. I can't say where I would be today had I ended up in prison for my addiction. God bless you and everyone struggling with this disease.
As an ex-inmate, it is no different. The biggest difference in a male prison is that the yard bosses already know your name and charges and which dorm you are going to.. Our "Green Monster" had the diesel engine in the rear and I was the unlucky one to have that seat. However, there was a young con that respected my age (Pops) and traded seats and I learned later that he had received 2nd degree burns on his ass and upper legs. This sounds horrific. Like starvation, hypothermia, stanky pits and breath.. helll no. You’re a warrior girl! Really glad I stumbled upon your channel today. I’m a meth addict trying to get sober. I’m very lucky this hasn’t been my reality, it will be jf I can’t surrender and make recovery the center of it all
When you put it like that it does seem pretty bad doesn't it? I wish you the best in your journey, hate to hear that you're struggling. Don't fall into that hopeless trap ok? That's the bs talkin, you can have better. ❤️
I wish you the best of luck and I hope you get off that stuff. As a drug addict, you are not a criminal in my book. You're just a girl that made some bad decisions and is now addicted to a drug. The criminals in my opinion are the dealers that get people hooked up on that stuff, knowing what it would do to you. Therefore I think it shouldn't be a crime to consume that stuff, but only to sell it. Stay strong!
First of all, I would like to point out, that I have got the greatest respect for somebody who has actually overcome a heroin addiction. That's really an amazing achievement and I can't even imagine how stressful and difficult that must be. Apart from that, it's even more honorable and praisworthy, that you have started helping others as a recovery coach. Fantastic! You're making me wonder about many different things, though. Honestly, you look very young, innocent, capable and reputable. That's my first impression of you. How can you have a history of crime, prisontime and addiction? That's so weird for somebody like me, who doesn't know your background yet. Just from your appearance in this video, I would think you're probably a 25 year old student of a university and you're going to be a lawyer or something like that. But somehow, that's so thrilling to hear, that somebody like you, has actually lived through a prison nightmare. I am sorry to say it like this, because I guess it's somehow bad behavior of me to feel this way. You have had such a difficult time and all it does to me is making me curious about many things.
Stefan, I appreciate your words & enjoy hearing your thoughts. No need to feel bad, that's why I share. I used to receive the comment of "you don't look like a heroin addict" often. But addiction truly does not discriminate. It does not care if you are rich or poor or what you look like. Also thank you so much for saying I look like a 25 yo student. I'm a 32 yr old mom. 🤣❤️
@@therecoverytherapist I am glad to hear, that you have created yourself a family. I am a father, too, so I can relate to that. Yes, you do actually look much younger than 32, and that's what brings me to my first question. I hope you don't mind? Otherwise please just ignore the questions, if they are inappropriate. 1. Did anybody in jail ever treat your differently because of your looks? Actually, I have no clue what you looked like back then, but I guess you might have had an even more innocent and youthful appearance a that time, so maybe the guards were not as strict to you or somebody protected you? On the other hand, you look rather petite, so maybe some other inmates used that against you? 2. Did you actually get handcuffed and shackled? And if so, did that even happen in public? How did that make you feel? Honestly, I am from europe and even though handcuffs sometimes get used on prison inmates here, it seems much less strict that in the USA. Especially for women, because they are much more unlikely to escape. 3. Can you actually make friends in prison or would you rather try to avoid anybody? 4. How do you cope with personal needs during prison time? I guess everyone needs some love, appreciation, privacy and last but not least, also sexuality. Do you just switch that off and ignore all that? Is that even possible? How did you manage to do that? Thanks so much :) All the best for you and your family. Greetings, Stefan
@@stefanblack3290 interesting questions. I have heard the US prison system is much more strict than other countries. 1. Guards did not treat me different & I had no protectors. Most guards are either indifferent or rude with the occasional kind soul. I would say that other inmates ( lifers or those with long time sentences) initially felt I could be messed with because I was young and new. Speaking out for yourself once or twice typically takes care of the problem. 2. Definitely always handcuffed & shackled anytime transported & occasionally in public. 3. It is possible to make friends, those who are there for similar reasons. I was selective. 4. I would bet 99% of women in prison are "gay for the stay." I did not go that route but luckily the prison environment was not an enticing one. 🤣
@@therecoverytherapist Thank you so much for your response. I feel honored to learn more about this experience. Mind if I ask some follow-up questions also? 1. What is the difference between jail and prison? I am not a native speaker and I am not sure, if there is a different term for this at all in our language (german). We just call it "Gefängnis" no matter where you go. Do these places look any different to each other? Is there a difference in security, like it would be (theoretically) easier to escape from jail than from prison? What I have learned from your video is, that you seem to go to jail first and to prison later. Is that correct? But why? What's the difference? 2. Do you think that your prison time helped you evolving as a person? Was it a maybe something like a "necessary pause" for you? And finally... do you think that you actually deserved a prison time back then? 3. I have also watched your "stanford prison experiment" video, which I found pretty interesting in that context. Your point, that people adopt to a position of power very quickly and easily and then start abusing their power seems quite logic to me. So you have got me wondering the following: I suppose you would not want to work in a prison environment, but if you did, would you be a better guard than most others? What would you try to do differently in particular? 4. Last but not least I am quite a bit shocked about the strictness of the US prison system. But it's really interesting to me as a topic, especially because that's so different to the europan standards. No matter where you are in the world, you will most probably get handcuffed sometime, when you are a prisoner. That happens to males and females in Gemany, too. But guards try to avoid that, when it's not necessary. I know that even on transports, people don't always get handcuffed, if the locations and the "bus" itself are secure enough. Apart from that, the police and correctional officers try not to "show" the handcuffed prisoners to the public, because it's so humiliating. But from what I have learned from you so far, this seems to be completely different where you live? Can you explain that some more? I mean... handcuffed and shackled? How? And when? How often did they actually do this to you? And you said, that it can happen in public occasionally, too? Like in what kind of places? And do you ever get used to that? I have no clue how often that happens, so I wonder if that becomes a normal procedure after a while. Do you think that's necessary or would you make a change to that, if you could? Thanks so much for your time :) Greetings! Stefan
I heard that in some prisons you can walk around inside at night, i heard that alcatraz federal prison was one of the worst, i would think the inmates were drugged.
