In the 70s or 80s on the first Sunday of the month, a Vulcan would land at McClelland AFB in Sacramento, Calif in the early morning, refuel and fly on. As took off to the west it flew over downtown Sacramento, and on foggy days the sound was earth shaking.
One of the Vulcans (maybe this one) came to Toronto's CNE airshow (1968?). As a boy, I remember the Vulcan from James Bond (Thunderball) and never forgot the dark silhouette and sound of this amazing bomber over Lake Ontario. Looked like a pterodactyl climbing steeply and swerving in the sky!
The spectacular Vulcan's were frequent fliers in the skies over Omaha, Nebraska in the 60's and early 70's. Strategic Air Command was located at Offutt AFB in the suburbs just on Omaha's south side in Bellevue. There always seemed to be some at Offutt and they'd never cease to impress as they lazily flew about the area. They were one of the highlights at Offutt's airshows. In fact, any time you want to see one, just travel west of Omaha to the Strategic Air and Space museum walk around theirs. They are tremendously lucky to have one on display. An SR-71 hangs from the ceiling in the atrium just inside the entrance. Quite a sight. Fantastic museum in a fantastic area. The Enola Gay was built at the Martin Bomber plant on what was to become Offutt after WWII. My wonderful Mom was a "Rosie the Riveter" there on the B-26's. Col. Tibbets came to Omaha to pick the B-29's for the A-bomb missions because the Omaha 29's were found to be much more reliable than any other plants. Miss the days of seeing those magnificent planes in the skies around here. Now we get to see the E4-B Doomsday Advanced Airborne Command planes flying around low and slow. They are modified 747's with a large bulge on the already bulged nose housing commo equip. They are often mistaken for AF-One. In those days of the Cold War, the US and Great Britain stood in defense of the free world. So sad that revisionist history has all but erased the story of the great sacrifices made by so many to guard freedom. Far too many soldiers, sailors, and airmen lost their lives patrolling the skies and seas and standing in the breech against Coimmunism---the murderers of ~70,000,000 people--give or take 10 or 15 million.
I watched a UA-cam video of a B52 Stratofortress and a Vulcan scramble. The B52 came down the runway coughing and farting and gradually heaved itself into the sky, slowly gaining height in a huge cloud of black smoke. The Vulcan scramble couldn't be more different!! It came down the runway howling and screaming then leaped into the air like a jet fighter, immediately banking away into the sky and was gone before the B52's smoke had even dispersed. Unimaginably thrilling to watch, more akin to and old Lighting scramble!!😂😂🇬🇧
I lived at North Hykeham I remember walking to the river and 27 flew over in line astern formation, it made the hairs stand up! Do you remember the sound of them warming up??
I'm a bus-fan (that's another story entirely) but bear with me. A few years ago, I went on a bus run (as bus people do) and I wound up on an open-top bus driving by the local airport. Just as we're coming toward the runway, here's an ex-RAF Vulcan opening up and doing the full Tin Triangle on takeoff. I won't forget it because I'll not be seeing it again! : )
I was fortunate enough to see her last ever display at the Jersey International Air Display, myself and an anorak who I'd never met before ended up hugging with tears in our eyes as she flew past, it was a touching moment yet I never did get that dude's name, lol 🤝
Want to see a Vulcan, SR-71, B1-B, et al in one location? Come to Omaha, Nebraska. The Strategic Air and Space Museum near Omaha has a phenomenal collection of historic aircraft and other displays along with state-of-the-art flight simulators, and other interactive displays. Vulcans were a common sight in the skies above eastern Nebraska in the 60's and early 70's. The RAF frequently had parts of a squadron based at Offutt AFB south of Omaha. Our Brit cousins/allies always put on a great demo at the yearly airshows there. I would dearly love to see this restored Vulcan. It is truly one of the most awe-inspiring planes ever to fly.
+Mike Cimerian There were some impressive Soviet nuclear bombers that would give the Vulcan a run for its money. Although the Vulcan is a beast of its own right. A respectable plane indeed
Stood there watching practice flights for the airshows as a boy. I also remember one of these aeroplanes flying over our house while testing the new engine for the upcoming Concorde. Noisy beggar!
I AM SAD TO SEE IT NEVER GO IN AIR AGAIN i was a HUGE! fan of it and now its gone! done! hes helped us alot he TEARED ISIS APART and now its done the world with vulcan is gone and now added to list of AWESOME COOL airplanes that will never ind 1.0000000 years fly again wa wa waaaaaaaaaaaa
ROBERTA KELLE It was a 1950's designed bomber and ahead of its time. It's speed was as good or better than other contemporary bombers of its time and it's served its purpose well for decades. Know any other bombers that could take off and manoeuvre like that did in the video? Only now probably the B2.

Used to hear these buggers taking off at Waddo. We lived 5 miles away and still rattled the windows! :D

The B-1 Lancer did a barrel roll at an airshow somewhere in the UK a few years back... it had never been done before, truly a spectacular sight!!!

Amazing aircraft and excellent footage, that wheelie was great!
It is a beautiful airplane.
I love this plane!
And me!
This year's the final time the Vulcan will spread her wings... RIP
I was fortunate enough to see her last ever display at the Jersey International Air Display, myself and an anorak who I'd never met before ended up hugging with tears in our eyes as she flew past, it was a touching moment yet I never did get that dude's name, lol 🤝
What a beast! :D

God it is still good to be British.
I'll take a wheelie in a jet over a wheelie in the top-of-the-line sports car any day.
Jets rule, cars drool
Fantastic piloting!
Indeed!
Beautiful flying stingray
Another amazing video, Big Like!!!
No other bomber can scramble like the Vulcan. Only fault with the design is crew bailout.
Yeah. My uncle lost 2 of his crew because of that bailout method, his AEO and his navigator plotter.

F-15s and F-16s go a LONG way doing "wheelies" like this too.
Beautiful
Why did the runway lights come on around 1:10?? and what a nice U-turn there I was impressed.
***** vulcan just flew over ,very low, what a sight, not quick enough to get photo,,northampton

Wouldn't it be nice if us British still made our own stuff. 😞
We had to stop, t’others needed a chance to be great for a while 😉
What's the red thing infront of the small aircraft in the back when it is taxiing across the runway?
Great plane of great times
I am always intrigued, why are the underneath of Vulcans painted in camouflage colours?
Good question !
great video man!!! lovely vulcan!!! does it land there evreday??
***** A very nice mate!
good turning circle
I would imagine the nosewheel tyre(s) lasted quite a long time.
Cool!
100 tonnes of aircraft, yep thats British engineering
the world with vulcan at his job is gone

The Russians were shared out of their skins over the mighty Vulcan
These maybe great planes, but they look so dam slow when they take off, and even when they're flying.

wait no
This video is not so much a take off, more like a landing
ARE THOSE OLD VULCAN DINOSAURS STILL FLYING ??
A BETTER NAME WOULD BE A VULTURE...
