I had a city on the same land as you have it but I recently purchased natural disasters and after a bit, a big Tsunami came and destroyed my entire city.(90% of it atleast) I paid $15 for my entire city to be destroyed.
I had the same map but my previous city before that one got destroyed from a tsunami so I made a defense so now my city is thriving with a current population of 52,000
Additional tips: 7) SERVICES - I like to turn on Parks and Recreation in the early game and make avid use of parks before the Eden Project is built. This will greatly increase your land value and the success of your city. 8) PLANNING - Once your city gets large turn on Big Business Benefactor, Industrial Space Planning, and High Tech Housing. You should see a large boost in your revenue if you've been building mostly high density commercial up to this point. This should also help you upgrade your residential and industrial zones. You might try High-Density Residential Tax Relief as well to encourage population growth.
I just build a 150k city with like 90% 2 lane roads and just a few 4 or 6 lane main roads and the traffic is still up 90% fluent. you dont need that many 6 lane roads. They also take so much space that you could spend on better intersections or more buildings
Informative video (and nice dam town). My population growth has stagnated and after watching your video I have a bit of insight as to why. When zoning, do you suggest putting residential, commercial, industrial and office all nearby within one grid? I love to create grids solely with one type of zoning (say a massive office area, with VERY little of other zonings) but I fear that love may be the reason why my city doesn't grow as well - or is it just a matter of having good transport lines in order for things to go from A to B to make this kind of system work?
yes the people need to work and shop close to where they live in order to maximize efficiency - if you really want to separate things though check this out...ua-cam.com/video/QyKvoAXNkeE/v-deo.html
Meanwhile, we could bury our trains, and build more residential! More residential = More garbage that we can burn! It's a bulletproof plan, nothing can go wrong.
I always try to keep an eye on unemployment, making sure it stays around 5 percent. The little bars at the bottom don't actually tell you that much abt ur city.
Had a city I was working for 19 hours straight, reached 530K population, then out of nowhere everyone decided to die and in 1 hour it dropped down to 250K
Can you please help me? There is one problem that freaking me out. my traffic always jammed (only in industrial and commercial places) but sometimes it is avoiding to simple cars to get into the city. Even if i have busses and metros it doesn't affect that much. How do you have only one place that has alot of traffic?
Are most of your roads six lane? Be careful building four lane roads because the median prevents cars from making u-turns and can cause traffic problems. If you do have four-lane roads upgrade them to six. Also, industrial areas cause traffic due to a high volume of trucks. The trucks want to go from your train stations (or ports) to your industrial areas and back. One way to help ease this traffic is to build a loop of one-way six lane road from the train station to the industrial area. This will keep the trucks flowing in a unified direction. Hope this helps and thx for stopping by!
+ The Angry Cub I noticed that everytime i connect a highway ramp from a highway road to a road i get congestion that affect at the cars that is in the back. I can't find any solution for this.
+Yami “GamerAnonymus” Sandwich hey Yami - instead of using the default highway off ramp - just use a one-way six lane road as your offramp. Also make sure the road the offramp is dumping into has good traffic flow.
Great work. City and presentation. Do you have any tip about when to go for high-density buildings (when is the right time?). I have used them when they became available but somewhere you mentioned you had figured out you used them to early. I cannot mix Industrial with everything else (not even with Offices as buffer space), the citizens are getting sick due to pollution in the ground. You seem to have highly developed, non-dirty industry. I have just bought the game and playing my very first City to fail and learn but I am surprised how well it's going (unmodded, with starting cash, 34k people, no major issues). Please create more of this helpful stuff.Cheers
you can pretty much build high density whenever they become available. Just be careful about building too much highdensity too fast, because they will create a large adult population that will age quickly and eventually all die at around the same time, creating an "epidemic" of sorts. Just remember to build low density housing occasionally because they create more children that age slower obviously. Thanks for stopping by!
I'm at 150k right now with no mods and I don't have any major projects unlocked, turning a profit of 10k, and I hardly placed any elementary schools, no high schools or colleges, and schools out policy is active in half my city.
The Angry Cub not one cemetery in the city. We have a costly network of about 20 something cremation facilities in order to save space for the garbage dumps within our cramped, 9 square limit.
I want to see that dam turned back on and the village wiped out. Can you terraform in this, such as deciding elevation, where the water is, make islands, etc?
Dragule Azraeth there are standard maps, but there is also a shitload of mods that let you change whatever you want. yeah maybe I should bulldoze the dam haha
There's two scenarios that comes with natural disasters that the win condition is to reach 250k population. I'm currently playing Island Hoping and I just hit 170k, but I don't see how I'm going to fit 250k people, I have already landscaped all 9 tiles and occupied them.
+Luke Valentine not sure exactly what you're asking but in the new update, you will still need parks in the edge of your map because the Eden project will not effect some buildings on the periphery. Plus parks are awesome!
+Doyzorz I tend to buffer my residential with commercial buildings. Commercial buildings don't care as much about pollution. Building decorated streets will help reduce noise pollution.
So, is it just as simple as at 8:10? Don't you have pollution from industrial zones infecting residences? Don't noise from commercial annoy everyone? Or maybe that neighborhood was built after that super-duper building so nobody cares? It's just doesn't get in my head how do you have zero vehicles on the streets in high density areas. Mb the traffic was not so hard in a game a year ago?
After the eden project is built land value increases, but yes the game was easier upon release. The six lane decorated roads help to decrease pollution and traffic however, that hasn't changed! I always try to separate my residential from industrial with commercial buildings when possible. - thanks for commenting!
Are you still alive? If so is this map available for download? I really wanna continue on this! I love Cities Skylines but setting up a city is always so slow-paced and not so fun as the rest.
Dude, using wide lane roads at the start just casts too much money, not to mention it's a lot more for maintenance in the long-term. You only need six-lane roads for the main streets (veins) and you can have two-lane roads for all the areas in between (capillaries)
This is 9 tiles? I am about to pass your population on 9 tiles with quite a bit of space left to build; I expect to pass at least 400k on original 9 tiles. I run with absolutely no in game mods, and have no blinking bubbles in my whole city (its clean to look at) which took me many roller coasters with different looking bubbles to perfect. This game is detailed with the traffic system, but it's very possible to nail.
SScampo Cool man congrats! Like I said in my vid I chose many ocean tiles to build upon with limited space (one has around 25% buildable area) because I like how they look. Choosing inland tiles will definitely provide more buildable land and thus a higher pop.
I just increased my RAM to 32 gig should that be enough to make a city of population 200,000 to 300,000 should that be enough and that will be without mods?
I want to maximize population but I hate to jumble up a bunch of buildings. I like to distinguish the difference between downtown and the rest of the city
+Rafael Klein i know you posted this like 2 months ago, but the reason the dam stopped working is cause he had all his water pumps on the high side of the dam, which sucked the water level down to much and caused it to stop working
All that density and only a quarter of a million people? Is it possible to reach 1 million? Your city reminds me of those Chinese mega citys were they cram like 5 million people in.
my favorite part of the game is building bus lines. i like your strategy but the city doesnt look realistic. all props to you but i would like to see you build a realistic looking city.

Btw you can unluck those retarded unique buildings in another savegame and then build them in your main city to unluck the monuments
Thanks for the vid ;D it really helped out ;D BTW what is the map?

Where are dumps? I didn t see.

Hey, nice video. Got one question though.. How are the industrial building's pollution not effecting the residentials?
Once you build the eden project the pollution radius drastically decreases!
