  • Here's the sixth tutorial in the Landscape in Colored Pencil series. In this one I'll show you how to draw mountains.
I used a Fabriano paper primed with Liquitex clear gesso and worked on top of it with Polychromos pencils.

Beautiful. The mountain came so perfectly like a real photo. I did not see any blending for the mountain, yet it came out so perfect. Its amazing. Thank you for sharing.

Did you prime this paper you yourself? I've seen in one of your videos, that you use Liquitex clear gesso, but this paper looks excellently even, smooth; I mean, all hand made gessoing I've seen, and mine included, shows brush-marks or imperfections, yours here looks like fine grained hardware store sandpaper, Sennelier Pastel Card, Canson Mi Teintes Touch, Pastelmat. Amazing skills You have.

I prime it myself. I just use a soft flat brush and move it around patiently in a thin layer.

This is beautiful as always! Thank you for doing this landscape tutorial series. Is there any particular reason why you are not using sandpaper for these drawings?

I generally prefer sandpaper, but the rough tooth of the clear gesso produces some great textures.

Would this style of drawing, work on papers like Fabriano Artistico, or Daler Rowney Heavyweight please?

thoroughly satisfying. what is the largest you have undertaken? i never managed anything over A4 even with pastel pencils.

I like smaller drawings, detailed minitures. A4 is as big as I go in most cases.

In your full size videos, do you provide the pencil numbers, too? Do you use 120 set of Polychromos?

when I do it, it looks like crap. Must be the special paper you are using that makes all the difference. It is really hard t find.
