I think they mean "Don't show your insurance payout BEFORE you get an estimate".
Get the cost first.
THIS VIDEO IS A SCAM. Contractors.. (Like this lady of "Integrity" Roofing) want to know exactly how much you're getting from the insurance company so the balance doesn't go in your pocket, but theirs. This lady misconstrued this clause on purpose. Always get a quote from your roofer for what they estimate the repairs to be and don't ever tell them what you're getting from your insurance company.

Our insurance company told us that they "don't deal with contractors" and we can get any contractor(s) we want. We don't need to give contractors a copy of anything ... unless we want to. And ... we don't need to provide receipts after the work is completed. So ... not all insurance companies operate the same way. I've seen too many contractors trying to "get between" the homeowner and the insurance company ... and trying to take control away from the homeowner. Contractors are just like any other business with a product to sell ... and should be handled that way. These "strong arm" and misleading sales tactics are what give good contractors a bad name.

All these contractors want to take away transparency from the owner so they can do minimum work for max profit. Ignorant homemowners end up with crappy jobs and the lowest quality materials because they do not understand there are 100 ways to roof a house wrong to cut cost and no one will know it for a long while. The shadiest of contractors also only warranty the work for the curent home owner. Absolute BS! Run!
DO NOT SHOW YOUR CONTRACTOR THE INSURANCE ASSESSMENT AND CLAIM APPROVED TOTAL. THEY WANTNTO SEE IT SO THEY CAN ALWAYS COMEMUP WITH THAT AMOUNT PLUS TO EXTRACT THE MAX. IT IS UNETHICAL AND SHADY. THEY SHOULD DO THEIR OWN DAMAGE ASESSMENT AND PROVIDE A DETAILED ESTIMATE INCLUDIMG WHAT MATERIALS THEY WILL USE AND WHAT WORK WILL BE DONE ACCORDING TO THE INFORMATION THEY KNOW TODAY. DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS WOMAN!
