I was lucky enough to meet himself, and, Betty, on a few occasions. I have also posted some videos from the Cork Jazz Festival, which you might like to check out too.
My dad recorded this broadcast from the TV when I was 11 years old and I'd just been given my first guitar. Nearly twenty years later, I'm a professional musician and I've been immersed in jazz ever since. Forgive the sentimentality, but this music really did change my life and it's so great to hear it again, so thank you so much for posting!
Ah, that’s very kind of you - thank you so much. As I said 15 years ago, this music really did change the direction of my life. And, happily, I eventually had the chance to meet both Louis and Mundell (on separate occasions) to express my gratitude. What fine players they were.
Great to hear that it inspired you to become involved in the music at such an early age.I think Music of this level is timeless and reaches people of all ages. I wish you great things in your Career
Back a year later.. ..Rodney Franks on KUVO Denver just told the news on the air..I first heard of Mundy through Johnny at the old shop in Colorado Springs on 8th. street..but I had no clue of immense contribution, not only to jazz, but to just flat out guitar playing.. A gentleman of the highest order. God Bless you Mundy. Louis Stewart is already gone too now..and God Bless him! The greats..our greats are getting called home..
Grande Chitarrista Mondiale con una spiccata personalità elevatissima. Il tocco è supremo , le frasi logiche , la fantasia , gli accordi , il fraseggio ne fanno veramente un musicista grandioso con ottima dinamica. Grande Mundell Lowe.
@MrPsorci There are so few of the Greats still around and it is wonderful that Mundell is still playing and imparting knowledge to young people. I am sure you will have a great day and if you get a chance to talk to him please say a big hello from Ireland.
Beyond Johnny Smith and that's a crap compliment, my dad was playing when Johnny Smith was in diapers and surpassed him many times over both professionally and worldwide Fame it's well-known fact as gifted as Smith was, and they were very close friends.
Thank's for the comment and also the info, will check it out. I don't have much by Carmen but one of the CD's I have has my all-time favourite Guitarist Billy Bean on one track
Hi Ollie, Who is your Grandfather?. thank you for your comment.I certainly agree with you,one of the alltime greats,Please pass on best wishes from John and Louis in Dublin if you get to talk to him. enjoy the Gig
Thank you for the comment, Mundell has always been an inspired interpreter of tunes and one of my favourites. I have also posted a duo version with Mundell and Louis Stewart which you might like to check out, as it offers a completely different feel to the tune.
i saw this guy 20 yrs. ago and i spoke to him after the gig!! i said to him that i noticed his left hand comes so far away from the strings!!! and he said to me..... its getting them down on time that matters!!!! and watch him and u will see wat i mean!! however ... martin taylor is the daddy!!!!
I think we Irish are a little more thick skinned than to get upset by what was obviously Mundell saying Dublin an thinking Ireland.certainly the audience enjoyed him being in both places.
Thanks. I remember in the 70's when their quality control was significantly better than Gibson's. Mundell Lowe could make a cigar box guitar sing though.
i went to see him after a gig he did with martin taylor in birmingham in england . i had noticed that he lifts his fingers so far away from the fretboard and when i said this to him he replied" once u get them down on time , that is the important thing" however he does make a lot of mistakes in his playing and taylor and stewart are way ahead of him !!
Mundell Lowe is my great great uncle. I grew up seeing him perform every year at the WC Handy festival in Florence. We miss you Mundell!!!!

R.I.P Mundell Lowe. Beautiful relaxing calm music. Thank you
You can't feel it unless he, the musician, feels it; he feels it.
Very well said.
This one goes back to WWII...
He would know, being a veteran of WWII.
Look at those smooth, sweep picked phrases.

Just now reading your comment 15 years later - lovely reminiscence. I've been listening to your playing at it's fantastic!

Vous avez de la chance d'avoir eu un père qui vous a initié à ce genre de musique, vous devez être fier de lui..❤❤❤❤
@@pansabdelkader I agree. I’m very lucky and, yes, I am very proud of my Dad. Thank you for your lovely comment!
NOt that many remember Mundell Lowe any more. He was one of the greats. His playing reminded me a bit of the legendary Johnny Smith.
RIP Mr.Lowe you were such a gift to music , you will be missed. Godspeed
Went to a concert at Dizzys, San Diego 4/14...Mundy's 94th birthday party. He hasn't lost hie touch. Thanks, Mundy

he really has some beautiful legato arpeggios
I liked his tasteful accompanying to Sarah Vaughan and became a fan of his along with Barney Kessel.
Mellifluous tone
Just beautiful.
Superb quality; wonderful vid.
LOVE Mundy...
What a beautiful sound.Played with great taste!
Wow so nice.
Spaziale!!!
i really enjoyed this. I like how his phrasing its not stiff like johnny smith can sometimes be. Its very tastefull and harmonically conscious.
Johnny Smith was great, but listening to him too much can give you sugar diabetes.
How sweet it is!
Cool stuff. I haven't been able to hear much of Lowe aside from an album I have of him playing with Benny Goodman but I love every bit of it!
What a classy guy.
thanks for your comment Jim, glad you are enjoying the clips
The chord move at 3:01 - stealing that!
that's an Ibanez "lawsuit" 175. it's an excellent ply-top. and the playing is grand indeed.
Nice touch. Almost Johnny Smith level...and that's a great compliment.
Carl Rudd indeed!
...it can be noted that Mundy was a favorite of Johnny's...
Beyond Johnny Smith and that's a crap compliment, my dad was playing when Johnny Smith was in diapers and surpassed him many times over both professionally and worldwide Fame it's well-known fact as gifted as Smith was, and they were very close friends.
Hay my Feeling
Amazing
Thanks for the posting of this! What year is this? James was top notch!

lovely playing. it's interesting, if you play guitar, to notice that mundell uses rather more upstrokes than downstrokes
What guitar is he playing? I can't read the brand.
I suppose because there are always some people who like to live up to their reputation
I think we Irish are a little more thick skinned than to get upset by what was obviously Mundell saying Dublin an thinking Ireland.certainly the audience enjoyed him being in both places.
Great post. Anyone know the maker of his guitar?
See my post immediately below.

he has a lot of johnny smith in his playing....
UA-cam comments are, like, the apex of human expression.
Ibanez
Thank you. It's a good copy of a Gibson. I was wondering who made it.

Close your eyes and listen. That's what matters.
Yeah, and Pat Marino has it “all over” both those other cats - means nothing. Lowe, communicates. That’s THE most important aspect in ANY art form.
