Amazon really needs to raise it's base pay to at least $20-25/hr with the manufactured mass inflation that's happening globally.

It's not worth it. Most of the time it's not even workers quitting its amazons absurd, high standards and metrics system to keep you in constant checkmate. "Oh you went to the bathroom for 3 minutes? Thats a write up, oh you took 30 seconds more walking back from the half a mile break room to go back to your tasks? Another write up." Or my personal favorite "Your 98.99% to goal out of 100% to goal, you need to be at 100% at all times no exceptions." Seriously if you round up to the nearst digit that is 100%. The repetitiveness is what gets me. Im so bored even though I'm constantly working, if that makes any sense. Plus those foam mats we stand on are a joke, my feet are dead by the end of the shift. I come from 25 years in the customer service industry and have held any position you can imagine from part time employee all the way to district manager and I wanted out. I thought Amazon would be a good change to get away from face to face customers daily but this place is making me second guess my choice. The benefits are good compared to what I've in the past and free college sounds great but once again, with the hours you work you'll be too tired to even attempt school. Im honestly just trying to ride out Amazon till the end of summer so we can pay off some credit cards and then I'm finding something closer to home and not as demanding. I wanted a job to where I could be just another person but I didn't expect to feel like just a body. It's kinda disheartening to see and feel what other's have been doing for years for myself as a customer to ensure I receive a package in 2 days. It has genuinely made me rethink prime, prime TV, kindle unlimited and prime music.

The only people I saw moving up were the instructors and most of those had been there less than a year and they got paid the same as everyone else on the shift. And if there's no new starts they're going to be stowing or packing with everyone else. At the end of a shift my back and feet were killing me. The warehouse is so big it took me nearly ten minutes to walk from some stations to the canteen. If you need some temporary work it's ok but I wouldn't make a career out of it.

You pay the price for great benefits and competitive pay. Don’t think it will be a cake walk. Fulfillment Centers are the worst. The sorting centers are much better, especially the Air Hubs. Amazon creates and causes so much stress on their associates. They definitely expect you to bust your ass when working. They stress safety but only when it benefits them. I can vouch that rates are not that big of a deal. I worked at an FC when it first opened up for four years and did not receive a single write up even though I only put up average at best numbers. Keeping your mouth shut, staying busy and getting back to your station on time are FAR more important. Managers barely knew I existed.
Another thing I did was change departments regularly if the right shift was available; because of the high turnover and I was one of the few original hires left I was guaranteed to get the most desired shifts. This helped freshen things up a bit if I felt bored with a particular role and/or I straight up didn't like a manager.

Not being able to use the restroom is inhumane, period. I worked in a similar warehouse back in Feb 2013; all regular and temp employees were called to a huddle meeting by one of the supervisors because of a recent theft of money that was hanging out from a locker; one of the temps, who had a shady background, saw an opportunity to take it and never came forward about the theft and to add insult to injury, our restrooms were in the same break room as the lockers so we were forced to ask permission to used the restroom, which is highly illegal and the security guard stationed in the break room was giving us a hard time. That company should have done criminal background checks or should have never partnered with temp agencies who don't do background checks on their temps, this should be mandatory

But, what they did was give him the job that he couldn't do instead. They also all got together supervisors included and made fun of his disability!! They altered his pay check where it doesn't even make sense. It's ridiculous, it's like a 2 year old did their accounting. I hope people are checking their paychecks, if they don't, then they are getting screwed.

Your number 4 is a big and highly underrated reason. This is many people's first job since it is so easy to get hired, and they just weren't prepared for it. And as positively as I usually speak about amazon, I will say their training sucks, and maybe less people would be so quick to quit if they were taught the tricks of how to do the job effectively with less effort. And I feel like I've kept some people from quitting just by giving them a heads up, telling them those first couple of weeks will be tough, you will want to quit (as I did), but if you just tough it out and stay a little longer it'll get easier, you'll get use to it, and you'll learn more. I don't think amazon will ever run out of people to hire tho, just because of how easy it is to get hired and rehired, many people end up eventually coming back after quitting, because they see that other jobs are even worse or no other job will hire them.

    • @C11

I agree. I also especially agree with the training not being so great. When I trained for pack in December, the training was awful and very unhelpful, which caused me to really dislike pack. I had to learn everything as I go and even then, I still don’t know all there is to pack. It made me have a really negative outlook on it, and I think the same applies to brand new employees who have training just as bad as mine was, which will cause them to just try to get out of there asap

I worked at a Leviton warehouse in Sparks, NV. They were writing people up left and right. Things you were expect3d ton do on a daily shift in depts.
Full case picker on floor....624 cartons per hour
Split case pickers.....80 locations an hour with one error per 200 picks.
Pallet builders.....324 cartons scanned per hour
That is a small sample. Now imag8ne new people coming on and they see what they want every hour, every day
They were always quick to write you up if you were below productivity goals, but never said a word of thanks when you were well above.
Management cared nothing about the people, but, only production.

I think a big part of that turnover rate is that they hire a few dozen seasonal workers for their peak season and then progressively lay them all off. If you're not getting laid off then you either see there's no room for promotion or that Amazon's pay isn't that great and you found a better paying job. The first month is usually the hardest for those not familiar with this kind of work, so physical aspect makes them quit. After the first month people will be quitting because they're burnt out from working 10hr shifts at midnight 4 days of the week and the off time was barely enough time for me to rest. Which is why Amazon takes just about anyone who has a pulse, 4 functional limbs and it doesn't matter if you can't even lift 45lbs.

I remember when I first started Amazon, the ambassador’s always talking about having a TT time no higher than 13 seconds I was like tf fck how is that possible but it’s all about routine, and just understanding the pods n how you can fit items in certain pods n don’t waste time on pods, and now my TT time is anywhere from 9 seconds per item & 12 seconds per item if I want to chill, the biggest thing for me I learn is get to know your water spiders , cause they can look out for you with smalls, and I’m water spider now, people that know me to ask me to keep an eye out for small items. But overall Amazon is super chill, yes they stress you out at the beginning once you are new but it’s something you can get used to.

They're worried?! That's a joke. They are why people are leaving. Rates are why I left. The quota for picking where i worked was 300 per hour and in a 10 h0our shift that adds up to 3000 picks. It's a lot harder to reach when the totes stall a lot. I was hired at &17.55 and hour. It certainly wasn't enough for all they demanded.

My wife works from home for a shift that's about 9 hours and she gets a whole 1 hr lunch (she can also be off task for as long as she wants since nobody's watching her at home as long as she meets her daily standard). I wish Amazon at least gave us a hr lunch.
But aside from that one gripe I get a sense of accomplishment after waterspidering for a whole day -- especially when I've done the whole day on a block 1 or block 4. Sometimes I really don't want to spider but most the time I feel like I did something so I'm not quitting anytime soon. Even if I wanted to I can't because I've little experience and just as little education so my options are somewhat limited as far as jobs and careers go. But thankfully Amazon pays for education so I can at least fix that while I work here.

I like the high turnover rate because if you don't like somebody, all you have to do is wait five minutes for them to disappear. That includes managers. I wish you would do a video about bad training at Amazon. The learning ambassadors only taught me half of the job. I was shown how to pick up an item, scan it, and then drop it in a pod. I was also told about the pink lights and what they mean. NOBODY explained that the entire work station is connected to the computer. NOBODY explained to me the blue and green light system on the sled. NOBODY explained that the way you drop empty containers very important and that the computer knows how many items are supposed to be in every box and tote and that if drop things the wrong way, somebody gets an email. I figured most of that out by myself. Also, in my building, there are clueless water spiders as well but nobody checks them, meanwhile, they harass stowers all day about mistakes.

Many people that have worked as amazon drivers have quit, and it's understandable why so many amazon drivers quit. Lots of amazon delivery drivers that quit are hard workers, have a great work ethic, are great employees, are in great physical shape, etc.
Many amazon delivery drivers quit since they constantly feel pressured and rushed to make 200 stops per day and make 20 stops per hour. At Amazon, many drivers have to make 200 stops per day and 20 stops per hour, and they're being monitored to make sure they're making 200 stops per day and 20 stops per hour. There's lots of circumstances that occur that make it hard or even impossible to make 200 stops per day and 20 stops per hour such as traffic jams, detours, rainy conditions, delivering several packages to apartment complexes, customers asking questions about packages, etc. Many amazon delivery drivers urinate in cups on the side of the road due to fearing that if they stop somewhere to use the bathroom, they won't be able to make 200 stops per day and 20 stops per hour. Many amazon delivery drivers skip their breaks, run stop signs, run red lights, etc due to feeling rushed and pressured to make 200 stops per day and 20 stops per hour.

I'm a learning ambassador at my site and I can tell you I've trained people and they'll leave that same day and never come back. I personally find it funny. Amazon isn't a hard job but it's very proactive and hands on and definitely not for everyone.

The real problem is how they treat their employees and their is basically zero job security. I’ve lost count of the number of good hard working people who have been fired over some of the most ridiculous & petty reasons I’ve ever heard of. Amazon doesn’t take into consideration or even give a sh*t that the people who they fire for no logical reason most likely has a family to support and desperately needs that income from the job they all the sudden got fired from for some petty reason that in no way shape or form warrants being fired over. Their is no loyalty. You can be a hard worker who does everything their supposed to and then out of nowhere you can lose your job for some bullsh*t reason and they throw you away like trash. It’s reason’s like this Amazon employee’s want and deserve to form a Union so that Amazon won’t be able to f*ck over their employees like they do now and pay them a decent livable wage like their employees deserve! But Amazon fights as hard as they can to keep that from happening. Their insatiable lust for greed will do anything it has to do to keep their foot on the necks of its expendable employees. Company makes me f*ckin sick!

I work at DFW7 (Fort Worth, Texas) and our wage is the exact same as yours. That barely gets you by here.

I've heard the DFW area is more expensive in comparison to where I live, which is Houston. I'm able to get by with the wages here, but I could imagine it's a lot more difficult if you add kids, higher cost of living, or anything like that on top of it. They should pay more because of that.

if you fall in the lowest 5% you get written up... that means someone will always get written up right? Or is it only if you don't make the rate?

    • @pcbangbros8350
      @pcbangbros8350 Рік тому +1

Someone always gets written up, always. Even if the whole block makes rate and does 100% of whats expected the bottom 5% still get written up because: "the proof is in your peers". i.e. if everyone is making rate then why are you 5 items behind? you must be slacking off. Written up.
