OMG I am SO freaking jealous!! I wish we had a store like that in USA!! I have been want a freaking aglaonema Pictum tricolor FOREVER!! I finally got a tiny tiny baby for $50 which was a freaking steal!! And not to mention ALL the other plants there!! I would probably be in so much debt if I lived by that store!!!
I love that store! You'd never find this kind of selection at a store around here. It's funny, when you walked past the ficus and peace lilies I was thinking, I'd be done shopping because that'd be the entire selection of any store near me lol.
Loved the ficus shiveriana. I have one but it’s only about 5inches tall. I have a jacklyn and no spider mites so far. Thanks for showing us around. Wish there was a bunnings here in the states
Yeah, it's pretty nuts how Bunnings got into the rarer stuff, though, this is probably the best Bunnings around here. Most other ones don't have this kind of selection.
@@petevsplants7516 It's because one of their suppliers (Enliven) has made it their mission to bring down the prices of rare plants by making them more available. Mark got sick of the crazy plant costs.
Your big box store has rof, gigas, clarinervium, Billie, jacklyn...!? I'm super jealous. I did recently find one lonely, beat up gloriousum at a big box store in the US.
I had to smile at how softly(?) you called that guy running the red light "idiot", haha. I'm more of a what I like to call Tourette driver and swear to myself in very interesting choice words whenever I see such idiots on my way to work and there's a LOT. Love the selection of plants and the cute doggo at the entrance of the store, those two were my favourite in this video!
Impressive show of self restraint there Pete, well done! Me on the other hand stays away from any shops or stores that sell plants cause I have none whatsoever😂
What fabulous plants at your local hardware store!!!! Wish I could find them at my local hardware shop here in the northeast, US. Got to say you put me to shame because I would have bought about 6 different plants!!! I am probably going to jinx myself but I have a Jacqueline and I’ve never had spider mites on it. 🤔
Love these vids, always interesting to hear how these plants vary and what to look out for at Bunnings. I can always use some new excuses for picking up a plant!
Selloum can get really massive when planted directly in ground. My mum has a huge one in her front garden that's been there needing no assistance to survive for at least 15-20 years in metro Victoria.
That was awesome. I don't have a car anymore so I can't go through Bunnings for a lookeeloo anymore. Living vivcariously. Amazon has some clear growing pots too. Do you have a stockist for any smaller than 10cm? I've been using picnic cups and burning drainage holes, but given their shape, there isn't as much root space and they aren't always suitable for my display pots. Curtious if you are aware of any other sources. I habitually overwater so found transparent pots helps me keep on top of the moisture levels because I can see the condensation.
Cheers, mate! To be honest, I just use plastic cups too for anything smaller than 10cm. I haven't seen any clear pots smaller than that size going around.
@@petevsplants7516 Thanks. It's frustrating when there are so many nice pots for plants with smaller footprints. It would be nice to find some clear pots that fit snugly.
Those Jacklyns do get huge, it's one of those plants that I have to touch every time I walk past it. Reminds me, I want to pick up another Ag. Tri colour, as I lost one recently. Well done on the self restraint! :D
Yeah mine recently just rotted out... I didn't get it. It had other plants in the same pot that had sprouted up and the main one's stem just rotted and snapped. Random...
@@petevsplants7516 mine from Enliven did the same and it wasn't even overwatered (repotted into a clear pot in aroid mix and only watered when dry). I think their TC Aglaonema Tricolours have bad genetics 🤷♂️
@@petevsplants7516 Yeah, the tri colours are something else. They just kinda collapse at random. I was afraid to water the one I have left, so let it go and dry out completely... and it collapsed, I watered it, then it came back up again, I've honestly never seen an Ag fall then get back up like that. If I didn't see it happen to my own plant I wouldn't have believed it.
The 2 Bunnings close to me in Sydney (Alexandria, the biggest Bunnings in Australia and Eastgardens) often have some really nice Alocasias but they're always in such horrible condition (not worse than IKEA plants though!). I saw a couple of Stingrays there last week. REALLY wanted to take one home, but they were just so beat up I walked out empty handed :(
Yeah, you need to grab them pretty much instantly or they hit the deck within a few weeks. But that makes for good marked down deals when they look like crap. All you need to do is make sure they don't have root rot at the store and bring them home and within a few months you can get them looking good again.
Kudos to you…great will power. I would have walked out with a Ring of Ring of Fire🔥 😅 I popped in to a couple of stores in rural NSW on my way home from the South Coast (Jervis Bay area) and went insane at the selection compared to the Sydney Bunning stores around me. I came away with 4 plants, one of which is a Ring of Fire 😆
@@petevsplants7516 Thanks for the heads up...I sprayed all new plants with Yates Rose Gun. You reckon that'll suffice or do you have one you recommend works better? 🤔
Lol it was hard... to be honest I was thinking about it, but I may have also just thrown out half my alocasia collection because they've been getting spider mites on and off for the past 6 months and I'm over it. I found them completely infesting the stingray in leca again after having washed them all off and spraying it down only a month ago, so just gave up and binned it. I'll start again in the future if I have time.
@@petevsplants7516 Do you find the beneficial bugs to have any impact vs the spider mites? I was planning a trip to the nursery that carries them to buy some fresh packets before vacation. Thank goodness I’ve only battled fungus gnats and mealy bugs in the house.
@@petevsplants7516 I’m shocked you have issues with spider mites on your stingray. I’ve had my stingray for years and even when I was hardcore neglecting it for a good 2 years (underwatering and never giving any nutrients despite being in leca) i never saw a single spider mite on it. It certainly didn’t grow well during that time and I’m sure it was stressed so I must have some pretty good genetics on mine for it to still be alive and to have never had pests on it. I will say that spider mites don’t seem to be a big issue with my plants despite having dry winters but I did find spider mites on a plant in the same area as the stingray about a year ago, so I know they’re around.
@@richardr5878 one of the issues with using beneficial bugs for mites is that the best predators are predatory mites which tend to require high humidity (70%+) to thrive. They just do way better metabolically at high humidity. If you live somewhere with high ambient humidity then you will likely have more luck than someone living with lower ambient humidity. There are species that can tolerate lower humidity but they aren’t as effective.
I have a problem, tempted by most. Would have loved to know the price on the yellow coloured ficus, might give them a call. As I have been watching lots of plant vlogs lately, I have to wonder if pulling a plants leaf is like someone pulling your ear, ( weird thought), I know.
