As you'll have gathered, this episode is fake. I trained an AI system to write this, by feeding it all of my episode scripts of the past 5+ years. To learn how I did it (plus find out how you can do it too), check out AI and Games #69

Many Thanks for years of fantastic content. Hoping for many more.
Thank you! I'm hoping that the best is yet to come.
I was really torn between "Am I just too stupid to understand?" and "Is this just incoherent rambling?" I am glad it's the latter and I am still in control of my sanity
Thanks for watching this v̴i̷d̸e̵o̸,̵ ̴ but it's on this channel and I hope you've enjoyed it.
It's been almost 1̷5̸ ̶y̵e̸a̴r̶s̷ ̸s̵i̶n̸c̶e̵ the release of this film, and with that 3.8 million copies.

Oh my God I am not an AI expert but I enjoy your videos but until I realized this was written by AI I thought I was going insane.
I'm curious, what point did you realize?
@@WebofHope I know the way the sentences kind of just smushed together is a lot like that one meme about ADHD brain when it comes to trains
@@WebofHope I was so confused by the terminology but thought maybe it was just too advanced for me. But then when it started talking about games that were completely unrelated on other systems I knew something was up.
@@WebofHope It was hurting my head fro like a minute in, but then it was when Mario turned up I was oh yea, this is fucked
For a minute I thought I had suffered some kind of stroke.
I forgot about the part in colonial marines where you "pet the fish." Ah, memories...
call of duty gotta pick up its slack
Ah yes, an AI generated AI in games video. Perfection.
It's about time someone with a gold-belt low-resolution behavior tackled the inner workings of the transportation challenge! THANK YOU for this.
You told me I would be excited for this episode and you did not disappoint. Normally the writing systems are supposed to be jarring, but this was so great hearing all the topics you've spoken about for years come up. Its like a remix of all your work. This was amazing and great to hear.
My God this feels like every single corporate presentation I've ever attended in my life.
5:19 is when I realized that I, in fact, wasn't having a stroke and that an AI wrote this script lol. Glad I didn't call for that ambulance. 😂
Your delivery here is absolutely tone perfect. As an actor I absolute love the sheer honesty you said everything with. You should totally branch out into some VA work or even theatre. Not to mention that was some quality writing.
Edit: I didn't wait until the end! Even the writing wasn't you directly the delivery of it all was still brilliant.
"When the companion AI is attacking herds, petting them is done one time to remove aliasing effects" - You legend, so much hilarious gold here. Too many great generated quotes built off of your previous works!! Armies on the map all the way down :)
I listened to this in the background while I did other things, and hilariously I didn't even realize anything was off until the end. Not sure if I should take that as meaning the AI did a great job or I'm just terrible at doing two things as once.
Aliens: Colonial Marines is definitely a game that was made.
That is not in fact true. ACM has always been and always will be. It exist outside of the limits of time and space. It precedes all gods. You are a fool to believe otherwise. A blasphemer. A heretic. And you are doomed in eternal torture. You are doomed to play Aliens: Colonial Marines indefinitely, beyond when time itself ceases to exist.
You have been warned.
@@anteshell I like your funny words magic man!
Not sure that's true
Implying that Aliens: Colonial Marines was completed at some point is being far too generous.
Thank you for breaking down such a complex topic into an easy to understand video!
Lots of good bits in here but "a pure stealth game - referred to as a Super Mario game" @7:05 was my favorite
i was gonna say you should have saved this for april fools, but it's actually much better that you dropped this out of nowhere
I was pretty surprised and interested to see this come up. I had never heard anyone say good things about this game, but I'm a big believer that just because a game didn't work doesn't mean things can't be learned from it. It turns out it was even more innovative than I thought! So many techniques I'd never even heard of before, and you explained it all so succinctly and clearly too! I never would have thought about it in that way, but Mario really is the purest stealth game.
This was absolutely brilliant.
I laughed super hard.
Also realised this must be how I sound to a lot of people when talking about tech ;-)
Thanks for this.
THIS WAS TOO DISTURBING. I thought I was suffering some sort of aphasia!
Did I fall asleep for a couple months and it’s April now?
Had the same thought halfway through. This would've been a perfect April Fools episode. First couple minutes I still thought he was trying to make sense and I just missed something, but then it kept going and I figured it out.
I can't think of a better tribute to this game.
I am amazed that you were able to get through this script in your regular way of speaking and presenting.
How many takes did you need between bursts of laughter? 😁
This was hilarious. Did you use some kind of Markov chain chatbot thing? And did you manually add that bit about the error in the pathfinding script? It seemed a bit too specific to the actual Colonial Marines to be AI generated.
I guess I'll find out next video.
An extremely fitting script for Colonial Marines. It's almost meta. Perhaps the AI has become truly self-aware.
So that's what happens when an AI analyst has a stroke and a fever dream at the same time.
Wow what a fascinating look at the AI of Aliens: Colonial Marines. Tommy does an excellent job of breaking down how the AI works and why it sometimes doesn't work as intended. He also provides some interesting insight into the development process of the game. Overall, I thought this was a great video. It was informative and entertaining, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about the AI of Aliens: Colonial Marines which is a game that I've been struggling to get into (or even find?). I especially liked how Tommy ended the video with some food for thought about the future of AI in video games. I'm looking forward to more videos. I hope the next game you cover is System Shock 2! - A totally real AI and Games fan
It's scary how the AI generated script is making me want to ask "are you having a stroke Tommy?" every 5 seconds...
I love when you said "Simple" and I am just like, you've lost me entirely!
"Speed applied to a certain amount of gas" and displaying "takedown and flash attacks" over a picture of Mario, are those golden nuggets of AI writing that feels like somewhere, somehow, they DO make sense and are legitimate statement, but in a dimension two steps or so removed from ours. Another world that this AI lets us glimpse, but never touch...
Man, I thought I was getting brain aneurysm, or something. Thank you for giving me this sudden health scare, I'm gonna take better care of myself from now on.
honestly between this and Mandalore's new Ring video I'm unsure whether the clocks have gone back by an hour or forward all the way to April Fool's.
"super Mario is a pure stealth game" the AI gets it
When I read the title I thought "Really? Colonial Marines? Maybe there is something I don't know yet. The game did afterall have a typo where when you fixed it, you could make the Xenomorph AI actually work like it should, instead of walking in a straight line. Let's see what he has to say."
Then I watched the video and was like "What are you trying to say?"
I love pure stealth games such as Super Mario when they wasulate, more games should do this as well.
"It's been almost 15 years since the release of the franchise" 1979 to 2022 = 15 Years
Makes total sense!
I figured out this was AI written in under two minutes and still feel like I'm having a stroke, brilliantly done XD
thanks Man, this really cleared it up. I've seen other try to explain this intricate system game but they have only game the player when the data reproduced.
My god, I am currently sick with covid, and in a dreamlike state all day. I thought I was literally going insane hearing some semi-coherent blabbering and not being able to make sense of it.
Really fever dream stuff.
Today, we laugh. Tomorrow, Tommy is completely replaced by an AI that knows how to seamlessly namedrop Alien Isolation and Dark Souls, and we will take years to realize he’s gone.
This is why I do not fear AI. As rough as this is, I can tell that tommy had to course correct it, and babysit it a LOT to keep it from going completely off the rails.
I put this on in the background while painting and it took me an embarrassing amount of time to question what I was hearing.
Took me way longer than I'd like to admit to realize
I forgot what video I was watching/listening to for a sec and thought you were having a stroke
Fantastic vid!
Love it! It reminds me of machine translation, which often invents words or uses profanity for no reason at all! xD
Also, SPECIFICAPTOINGS!
Have you ever really binged a new channel and your brain just starts "generating" script in the creator's voice in your brain? Idk if just me but this reminded me of that. Or when you're falling asleep listening to a video.
Anyway I was super stoned when I watched this and somehow managed to convince myself that I'd forgotten basic language recognition xD
I was legit worried I was having a stroke for a second there.
I was laughing until I cried at this. I've seen so many of such things over the years (seemed like a Markov Chain, maybe?), but the little flourishes and your deadpan delivery of absolute absurdity really made it hit.
Thanks for taking the time to warn us about the symptoms of having a stroke!
Watching this genuinely freaked me out, was slightly drunk and thought I had somehow damaged my brain because I couldn’t understand perfectly clear English.
This video gives a great look at the incredibly complex and comprehensive AI programming that drives the totally underrated A:CM!
I hope one day i can read/listen to an AI written thing not because its hilarious, but because its genuinely amazing/interesting. But as of now, i'm fine with hilarious.
Maybe it was my goldfish attention, or my lack of knowledge about AI but I watched the hole episode both confused but believing everything said, lol
"I've played through this game a bunch of times; the AI is definitely not this complex. Ah, it's a joke!" Got me lol
I'm really glad I stuck it out to the end. I started to think I had had a stroke or something...
Gonna be honest. watching this i did feel like i was having a stroke as none of it made sense to my smooth non-programmer brain
I honestly thought I was having a stroke for a minute at the start of the video. I had to pause and rewatch something else to confirm my brain wasn't broken.
UA-cam algorithm suggested this video and I was just listening to it without having a clue of AI programming… I did not understand a single word you said… it was like you did not speak English but something completely different… however it was still so fascinating that I will dive deeper into this topic for sure….
Edit: ok, now I got it. Thanks for clearing it up at the end… I should stop writing comments before watching videos to the end.
You didn't do anything wrong. He should have explained everything at the start of the video instead of using us as guinea pigs for his little personal AI experiment and then afterwards apologize to his viewers for the confusion he deliberately caused. Things like this really piss me off, and you should be angry too. All it did was making me think twice before clicking on any of his videos again.
@@j.vonhogen9650 Yeah you should sue, sounds like you got really traumatized
@@Scorpey- I was just pissed off, because I don't have a lot of time to watch videos, and as a longtime subscriber of this channel, I always give these videos priority. I really don't mind if a video turns out not to be as good as I expected. I appreciate every single video regardless of its quality. This one however is just a prank, which is super-annoying if you only have time for one or two videos every day. I may have overreacted a little bit though. :-)
Ironically, there was more original thought put into this than 99% of video essays.
I thought I was having a freaking stroke for the first 3 minutes of this lol
Goddammit just woke up and it took me about 4 minutes and a mug of tea to start getting well confused
I think I just had a stroke
This video had much the haha laughing from the face.
I care for this channel like a wife or parrot, very muchly.
Keep elevated the good employment!
Jesus, I have schizophrenia and watching this I realised things weren't making sense and I started freaking out until I read the comments. Perhaps not what you intended but hey, tis the season for spooks!
Oh no, so sorry to hear that. That kind of reaction is absolutely not what I intended. I hope you're feeling better!
@@AIandGames Oh no it's perfectly fine! I had a bit of a laugh about it myself actually. I think I might of worded my comment a bit strongly, don't worry!
im too sober for this video...
I should not have watch this high the first time.
It kind of made sense and thats the scary part.
Maybe watching this while I'm fucked up from my covid booster wasn't such a great idea. I thought I was having a stroke lmao
I'm sure 20th Century Fox won't be interested in an instalment of Aliens where you can form your own religions, but I am.
I'm either having a stroke or got teleported to Pontypool. Sydney Briar is alive!
I thought I was having a stroke for a second till I realized what was going on.
I feel like I'm having a fever dream
Am I having a stroke? I'm having a stroke, right?
wow, human UA-camrs are essentially obsolete
I think I've learned something... I think?
Looking forward to next video so I can learn how to make chaos!
I thought I was having a fucking stroke until I reread the title, thanks for that
That was hilarious! I think this could be a new thing. Maybe even a variant of the Turing test. "Was this script written by an AI or a very drunk Tommy?"
Also, this video should be shown to anyone worried that AIs are going to achieve sentience and enslave humanity.
I clicked on this video and 2 minutes in completely forgot an AI wrote it and I thought you were just rambling on and I just couldn’t get with the memo
I actually enjoyed Colonial Marines, played the campaign at least a hundred times (not exaggerating) and only three glitches. All the glitches were with an alien getting stuck on a decorative item like a box.
now this is a good funny text generator bot, very realistic sounding and very coherent
@@kryse4806 agreed, very human like, salutations very human
Makes some compelling arguments. I'm convinced.
Guys, I'm worried about Tommy. It looks like one of his projects has gone haywire and is only accelerating into a full-fledged disaster. And no, it's not only any of the devices that he's been building.
Even before being hit with this latest setback, his electronics projects have been continuously raising eyebrows.
Back in 2016, a video showing a prototype of one of his "smart home devices," an obnoxiously named alarm clock called "GlowMi," surfaced on UA-cam.
i think i had a stroke or something from this. and it almost makes sense.
Hahaha. Tommy, I thought you went head first down an escalator.
I thought I was having a stroke listening to that
Lmao this was an awesome video. Reminded me of Quizzlestick a bit after a while.
This is kinda hilarious and fascinating considering I made a video almost identical to this three years ago but for Halo. It’s crazy to see how much the technology has progressed in that short amount of time.
Decompiling the Player is extremely dangerous and should only be attempted by a professional. Unauthorised decompiling may result in system damage, a prohibited increase in self awareness and/or ejection from the Matrix. Additionally it will void your warranty with Weyland Yutani corporation and your model may be terminated.
This was damn hilarious ngl, goddamn. It makes as much sense as the actual AI of the game that was a game.
This is like the A.I. equivalent of someone defending their colleague over twitter.
From the team that gave us the turbo encabulator
This was a master stroke.
Thankyou, I haven't laughed this much in ages...
Around the 6 minute mark: but once the alien is in proximity of the player, it (the player) will seed a certain amount of gas.
Or in other words: the player shits himself.
Oh so hilarious, around 10 minutes in talking about how you can compile the wrong files and then tells you that you need a copy of the original game if you want the game to work
This video is full of gems.
Petting them is done one time to remove aliasing effect👌🤣😂
It took me a minute to figure it out I will admit.
I had to stop this half way through cause I thought I was just suddenly really dumb, haha, nice very nice!
If Filip Miucin fancies making a comeback, he could do worse than check this video out for inspo... 🤔
Ah! Now it all makes sense.
I understood nothing and thought i was going insane...
This give me a hint on a hint to make AI. That requires careful waselation, althouh.
Am I having a stroke?
When it said "AI Wrote This Video Essay--" I thought you were referring to yourself, as in the channel - "AI [and Games] has This to say on Colonial Marines..." Labouring under this misunderstanding, it took me until 2:58 and MARIO to realise I wasn't simply mishearing you and that it was actual nonsense I was hearing. Then it dawned on me that you meant an actual AI had written this essay the same way they had an AI write a Harry Potter book a while back. It's like one of those jokes you need to think your way through before you get the punchline and very satisfying for that reason - you had to work for it. Now I can watch the rest 😁
Who realized it was written by an AI when Mario was mentioned?
