Strong, deeply-felt, melodic, gorgeous music with an especially impressive finale, this Trio is completely interesting and satisfying, another masterpiece by Magnard that I hadn't heard until now. (I can't imagine how or why he got the title "French Bruckner" however; I can find no reason for making such a connection.)
I guess it is because he was a notable symphonist, at a time when french composers didn't like much the genre. And there is something "grave" ans very serious in a old fashion way of writing that can be compared to Bruckner, but yes, these are two separate worlds...
Magnard is a quite underrated composer? His 4 sylmphonies are very great. He also wrote masterpieces in chan=mber music. Of course, his string quartet is excellent but you cann feel tht i is his first onr. But the duo sonatas ans this trio i are great akso?
@@bartjebartmans I agree. This repertoire is poor. Franck, Chausson, Roussel wrote rtrios only very young . Poulenc cxhose woodwinds: oboe and bassoon. The two other masterpieces are of course from Ravel and Fauré., who considered the clarinat as an valuable substitute of violin. Try it. This has the splendid effect to change a lmasterpiece into another one.
@@gerardbegni2806 Saint-Saens' 2 piano trios should be included as well. They may not be impressionistic, but the beauty and quality is out of this world.
Somptueuse partition...merci pour le partage. Magnard, compositeur essentiel.❤

Funnily enough though, both their First Symphony is in C minor and begin on the rhythm of a march.
Unlike Bruckner, Magnard's music has a forward direction, and doesn't waste a listener's hour-and-a-half to listen until the grateful final cadence.
Chef d'œuvre
Adelina Oprean, I have heard of the violinist but not the other two. Nice piece and well played too.
Beautiful
Wonderful music!
I am pleasantly surprised with how good this is
Why are you surprised?
Magnard symphonies are the part of french great symphonies

This piano trio is one of France's finest in the repertoire.

Florian Daleboudt -- Chááááále, no mames......BRAVOOOOO!
Magnifique oeuvre d'un compositeur de génie, encore aujourd'hui trop méconnu. Supérieur à Debussy, selon moi et égalant ravel.
