For NES, Genesis, and Saturn I prefer composite! The games look and feel just how they should to me. For everything else I use component, but composite is a must for those three systems.

@@natese8406 weirdly enough, I’m into “crisp” NES at this point, but sometimes composite just feels right for everything. I’m going to give groovy mister a try at some point and play some modern pc games at 480i lol.

Same. I've never understood wanting to play 8-16 bit games in HD via HDMI. Everything looks razor sharp, square-y and artificial. Where as composite or RF on a CRT blends those sprites into art, or cartoon looking characters.
These games were designed to be played with RF & Composite on CRT's back in the 80's & 90's. Heck, for NES games i still think RF offers the most natural/organic picture since it rounds out the edging of the sprites. Composite is too harsh in the sharpness department.

@ @ I definitely oscillate between preferences. I’ve liked sharp, I’m in my composite phase, still do a lot of RGB. Haven’t messed with RF in a while though! I’m sure the interference will add to the nostalgia.

RF is tricky. I haven't been able to get the same 'as clean' results as i did back in the day with any official NES RF splitter using older 90's CRT TV's.
Buying a brand new 3rd Party RF cable for NES and pairing it with something like a 2005/2006 Sony WEGA CRT Trinitron will probably give you the best results.
The only time i ever experienced component with NES, SNES & Genesis games was on the Wii's Virtual Console, on my 2006 32" Full screen Sony WEGA Trinitron CRT SDTV. Because it's 480i Analogue CRT, component still looked great for older titles and didn't look overly sharp or artificial. Components deep blacks, greater colour, dynamicy/brightness and zero colour bleed were all really nice too. but on an HDTV? Nope!

Alright so I need some help; im fairly certain im using the device you are, whenever I set it like you do my image is green.
So naturally if I mess with it, I change it to RGB, right, that looks ok but there's this dot crawl effect that I really dont like.
Keep in mind I think I bought said device before the MiSTer had Svideo stock, so that might be part of why, but either way im going to want an alternative.
Ive been trying taking a VGA component adapter and an RCA to Svideo, but it doesnt seem to want to give a signal.

Do you know for sure it's the powered version? I think the passive version have some caveats. What I/O board do you have? The standard version (pre MiSTer Pi and the new board with the Saturn DIN)? I assume you've tried flipping that SOG toggle back and forth and the VGA power jumper is on 5V?
