well, I guess this is it, now we can make sure Dave Malloy is not gonna be a normal artist ever, it always has to be something new and crazy, Rachmaninoff's therapy sessions, War & Peace in form of an Electronic Opera, crazy song cycles about time travel and ghosts, Retelling of Beowulf's Epic or something like this, an acapella musical(which I don't think there was anything like this in Broadway) about technology addiction... god bless Dave Malloy
there was an a capella musical, but it wasn’t about internet addiction and i don’t think it did too well on broadway, but i don’t know too much about it- i believe it was called ‘in transit’? but dave malloy has definitely cemented himself as one of the best creators of theater, he’s insane
@@mehrider7041 mhm yeah like they said "In Transit"!!! Yeah, it didn't really do well, and I get why (not hating on it though), but it was good enough to make it to Broadway so yeah! Also it had Margo Seibert who is also in Octet! (And yes I agree Dave is just incredible)
@@musicprincess9747 Yeah the story of IT was pretty comfortable, and the songs were catching without getting stuck. It had some pretty great ideas that even 8 doesn't go with, like beatboxing, but if anything it deserves any boost it can get up under the success of Octet
This is an example of why Dave Malloy is my current favorite in the creative musical world. Constantly new and refreshing, mixing the classical with the contemporary to create a new era entirely. That’s talent, that’s pushing stale boundaries. It’s touching really.

I just listened to the Octet cast recording, and I want to take back every bad thing I ever said about Dave Malloy when I was defending Dear Evan Hansen
Just saw this last Saturday at Berkeley Rep with this fantastic cast! I'm still enthralled. Bought the album. Loving it more and more with each listening.
@@sgeekmc8530 fair, but I would argue that the "intimacy" of a show doesn't determine it's chances of making it to Broadway. Even this year we saw the play, Hillary and Clinton, a 3 person show, earn several tony nominations. So it is certainly possible!

Dave malloy is truly a gift to humanity.
His writing skills are truly amazing, aren't they?
dave malloy deserves so much more appreciation i love his work so much
Dave Malloy is like a punk yet equally brilliant Sondheim. This man will go down in Broadway history as truly one of the greats.

Dave Malloy is such an incredible composer. Wow.
Dave Malloy deserves so much more recognition. Absolute genius of an artist.
3:20 and onward healed my soul

This kinda sounds like Natalya from preludes with a mix of Ghost Quartet! Im so glad to be alive during the same time as the great Dave Malloy
It always makes me think of Natalya!
Woah, I was not prepared for this much emotion! Now I'm crying and my makeup is ruined!! This is beautiful

This songs the literal definition of TRANSCENDING!
Octet is a mainstream musical done *right* 😍😍😪
The descriptions in Malloy’s songs are so amazing! Just, yes. Give me more of this!

HERE BEFORE OCTET BLOWS UP AND GETS THE RECOGNITION IT DESERVES
Dave Malloy you're fucking killing me !!!!!!
So beautiful. Love all of Octet, this song is so haunting, so loving, I love it.

So.... when is the cast album?
it’s out now!
THIS!!😍💖💖💖god this is so good💖
give starr more leading roles! now!
Getting some ghost quartet vibes
Yes!!! I've been wanting to see a video like this. Octet is Soo unpopular!
What rhymes with stolen? Melatonin!!!
anyone got an idea why Ed gets that 3-note bit at the end? is it character related or purely for melody reasons?
My biggest regret is still not saying hi to Alex Gibby when I saw him leave the theatre for spongebob.
...I'm just gonna go ahead and call that this will get the Tony for best musical right now...
