Snowboarding the Grande Motte Glacier - Early Season Tignes - 4k
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 жов 2024
- Snow conditions on piste, in November, on the Grande Motte Glacier, Tignes. It felt good to be back snowboarding.
The snow was pretty icy in places, mostly on the steeper slopes, but on the whole pretty good. You can see on the south facing slopes there really isn't any snow yet, and below 3000m, it gets very thin. I went to Val Thorens the next day, and you won't see any footage from there because it was only thin strip of snow cannon snow!

Love the casual fist bump as you cruise by.
😉👍
Love videos where ‘snow’ is the soundtrack. Thank you for the very cathartic experience!
The legend Malcolm Moore is baaaaaaaaaaack!
Yeah, can't wait for winter to properly start! 🙌
loved the fist pump man...made me laugh :) 3:45
🤜🤛 The dude was a bit suprised. 😂
Hey Thomas, welcome back!
@@malcolmmoore 🙌 Likewise.
MM back on the it! Thanks for all the great tutorial videos. Got a lot to work on this season but going to focus on down unweighted turns.
Nice, yeah I'll be making tutorial vids as soon as alpe d'huez opens up in a couple of weeks. I want to try and get around to a retraction turn video, which really isn't that different to down unweighted, but is more to do with how you move your centre of mass at the edge change, very geeky... haha, I'll probably do a few more approachable tutorials first though!
Oh hell yeah!!! Exactly the kind of videos i'm searching for! A simple POV of ride down the mountain! Will be going to Austria 'Zillertal' resort in January 21 so i just keep spamming your videos! Love it, keep it up and hopefuly the mountains will be available for everyone this year!
Thanks Justas! My home resort has just opened up yesterday so I can get back in the full swing of making videos now!
Yay back on snow
Bring on winter! 🙌
3:48 golden
😂🔥
Fist bumps don't get much cooler than that!
👊
Oh damn. Last winter was my first season, and I am pretty sure my last day on the snowboard was exactly 8 months ago from today - March 23rd, I remember because of how lucky we were to get some late frosts. Watching your video - it's like being transported to some distant, past life. Can't wait!
Cheers from North Texas. Hoping to go back to Colorado during Christmas with the family. Really missing it! Watching these videos really help me.
Thanks Chris! Hopefully you'll get to Colorado, that's a place on my bucket list for sure 👌
Love the flips on the green parts!
Seeing your shadow is a sweet touch 😎
Hey Malcolm. I discovered your channel maybe about 35 minutes ago and I like it a lot. I've been skiing for just about 24 years now (since I was a young kid), but have never really skied outside the American Northeast. I hope to make it to your neck of the woods at some point but I guess I'll just settle for your videos at the moment lol
Thanks! I'll be travelling around making more vids this winter, so thanks for coming along in the ride! 🙌
That fist bump tho
😉👍
I can't wait to get to boarding in the states! Happy boarding brother!
Roll on winter!
You're so lucky it seems everyone is getting snow except the american northeast.. Also nice job I've noticed you've almost hit 5 million views on that tunnel video 🎉
Thanks, and yeah crazy views on that one!
Insanely jealous! Austria is shut, looking to see if I can go to Zugspitze in Germany this week, got a week planned in Val Thorens coming up next year aswell! Snow condition look good there, how is Val Thorens usually?
I went to VT after this trip and it wasn't great, but one snowfall and they'll be sorted! It's a cool area for sure!
Austria is shut? I already booked a house in Schladming with my pals. NOooooooOOOooOo
@@egebamyasi2929 We're currently in a "lockdown" until at least 13th of December. But for some reasons ski pists are open, I don't know about hotels though.
@@reneghg6392 what's your predictions mind me asking? 13 of us are planning to go to 'Zillertal' resort in 21st of January and we are so confused since you are in lockdown.. Already booked a house in the mountains, is there a chance resorts wont be closed, like last year they were?
@@Lagunev They will be open much surely , even if the rest of the country will be shut...ski resorts in Austria somehow escaped this law 😎
Just straight chilling. Can't wait to snowboard this year! Hello from Oregon USA brother! Keep the videos coming. Hopefully vising Big Sky Montana soon!
Yeah I need to get stateside sometime for sure!
I can't wait for the Pyrénées stations to open, the first one is for this saturday, for sure I will go and start to try all the tips you gave us for one year ! Keep shredding !!!
Yeah, there's good snow on the maps for down there, it looks like you're about to get the perfect base for the season!
Looks so good! 🔥
Love it. Though can’t see Malcolm snowboarding, his shadow was good enough.
It was a weird long shadow actually with the low sun, made my posture look weird in places! 😂
Great video!
Thanks!
I have my first trip booked for new years eve here in Sweden. It's all i can think about 😵
Bring it on! 🙌
Just found your channel it's awesome, also just moved from east icy mountain Canada to more northern Canada, and the mountain opens in a few days I cant wait
Bring on winter!
Imagine how much less the slopes would be torn up at the end of the day if everyone snowboarded. Skis absolutely gut the piste 😠
🙄
What is a snowboard? 🤡
Hey nice! Makes me jealous… have done that run many times.
cant wait for the season, gonna be out in la Plagne in a. few weeks and hoping for some snow
It's coming this week! 🙌
@@malcolmmoore seems im not the only one who constantly stares at the forecast haha
Ayy glad to see Tignes again been snowboarding there since I was 2. Can't wait to go back this winter probably gonna come earli or mid december hopefully. :))
Nice, it's an awesome resort!
Thanks for making us all jealous Malcolm 😐
Haha sorry!
No need for the cannons in about a week 🙌🙌 can't wait
For sure, I'm watching the snow maps like a mad man!
Nice video! Was that somebody laid out at around the 2:05 mark lol??
Is the date correct, on the video?
Planning a trip in Tignes for end of November, but I am a bit worried about the snow conditions.
If this is what you in the second week, it looks really awesome for an early bird this season.
Spectacular... 🏂
Thanks, I'll be travelling the Alps this winter making more, when that snow comes they'll just get better and better!
That is the kind of piste where my mates and I are like, "One speed check is yellow card, two, eliminated. Turns are not allowed" XD
😂 I waited a while for it to empty out in between gondolas, but still caught some boarders by the end!
Very Nice ....... to watch.
The stance was duck? How to learn both, goofy and regular? The first one is always dominating... so the other feels unnatural and difficult.
But seeing you jumping so easy around, you ride the most at regular but I didn't see any difference between goofy and regular.
+18 -12 for my feet 👍
Looks awesome, I'll be there in 2 weeks, can't flipping wait! Which run(s) was this?
More snow coming this week 😃
This is just the run from the Grande Motte gondola at the top of the glacier, not sure the name of the actual run, but once you're up there it's the only way down!
@@malcolmmoore :) :)
Amazing panorama, snow and place. What camera do you use,is with gimbal?
Nope, no gimbal, just hypersmooth on the gopro hero 9, or 10, can't remember what I used here, one of those!
Sick. What app is that for tracking elevation and speed?
Malcolm what’s your thoughts on snowboarding insoles ?
I've never used them, but I've never had any problems with my normal shoes or anything like that. For me snowboard boots have always been fine without them 🤷♂️👍
@@malcolmmoore a lot of snowboarders talking about "Footprint Gamechangers" - vid idea?
Are you spending this season in tignes?
Nah, but alpe d'huez doesn't open until the 5th of December, so just hitting up other resorts that are open. Looks like most of the Alps are getting hut with snow this week, so then we'll be game on!
@@malcolmmoore Oh nice. Keep up the great content, nice to see a fellow British snowboarder👍
This is mine in a few days 😇
3460M - dang, it must take a while to get used to that altitude! Nice long run!
Yeah, it is tiring for sure being up that high all day!
Great video, what's the overlay you're using if you don't mind me asking? Love Tignes/Val d'Isere, never got round to doing the Grande Motte. Loads of hoops to jump through to snowboard this winter in France, but it'll be so worth it, can't wait! I'll be over at Alpe d'Huez for Xmas so I'll give you a shout if I see you on the slopes! 😁 Hoping there will be no further restrictions until then....😬
Yeah say hello if you see me, I'll be busy teaching most days! I've recorded the GPS data with a suunto sports watch and then use the free garmin virb edit software to make the overlays. 👍
does your go pro have to be linked to your phones mobile data for it to have the hud that it displays like how you do in this video?
GPS watch, then the free Garmin Virb Edit software 👌
Any chance you could video a run on La Grave this season?
Yeah I hopefully will, its not the easiest to get in good conditions, but if a good day falls on my day off then definitely!
@@malcolmmoore what’s the best resort to access it from (other than the village of la Grave)? …. Can you get to it from the top of Alpe d’Huez? Or is it easier from Deux Alpes?
Nice! How did the rest of the Tignes look from what you could see? I'm meant to be there or Val in 2 weeks, hoping there's going to be more than the glacier to lap. Need snow coming soon.
Snow maps are looking very good, I'm pretty sure wherever you go in 2 weeks will be fine!
What are you recording with ? Or how do you get the speed and elevation ?
I'm using a Suunto watch with GPS and a Barometric sensor, you can use the gopro hut its not as accurate, but sometimes works OK! I then use the free Garmin Virb Edit software to make the speed gauges.
There’s this bit in Zermatt coming down from Kleine Matterhorn after Plateau Rosa called either Verbindungspiste or Gandegg… it’s a wide and really long slightly sloped flat area. I always struggle with it, I either end up going way too fast as an intermediate and end up getting energetically falling over at 80kmh or I try and control the speed and go too slow that I stop or kill my legs. The third time I went to Zermatt I just avoided coming down from the top of the mountain for that reason and mostly stuck to the other mountains. It looks a lot like the beginning of this video - flat and very wide but straighter. Any advice?
Learning to carve is the best thing for riding flats, not necessarily making big turns but rocking from edge to edge.
ua-cam.com/video/_vDyI-R2L3E/v-deo.html
This video might help, it's a bit of an old one, so not my slickest edit, but covers the basics!
What tools do you use to display those gauges? The gopro desktop app is gone so I wonder what the easiest way is now?
It's a bit of a process, so I record that stats on a suunto watch, similar to a garmin, but it has a barometric sensor combined with a GPS that gives you better results. I then export the FIT file in to the free Garmin Virb Edit software. You need to add it to footage and then you can pick your gauges. Syncing it up can be a little tricky. The main problem is that gopro separates longer videos into more than 1 file and this then messes the whole process up. So what I do is export a long enough video of green screen, overlay the gauges to that, export it from the garmin software, put it into Premiere Pro, use the ultra key tool to remove the green, and then sync it up with my footage 😂 once you get the hang of it it's not as bad as it sounds!
