Everyone needs to know that G'burg and the area is coming back. The Alamo is back and seems to be just like it was. Great place to eat. A long way to go I'm sure, but the Smokies we all know is still the best place to go!

I lived here, this was basically my home. I would always look forward to going up to gatlinburg to ride the ski lift or go to alamo or even see the mountains. Deeply saddened by this R.I.P to the people who lost their lives in this tragic event!

As one of the many fire fighters that responded to this, i can speak for all when i say these pictures don't even touch how it really was there.

What do you think about making every abled bodied man in Gatlinburg a firefighter. It upsets me that this had to happen and people had to just leave and let their businesses and houses burn. Gatlinburg is unique, I know everyone can list 10 reasons why this happened, but don't you think if hydrants and hoses and firemen were on the scene when it started to get out of control, this wouldn't have happened? So if all the men were trained for this, it probably wouldn't have happened. I know it's not normal and this isn't 1790's grab your gun and help the fight, but enough hydrants and water and this wouldn't have happened!

For one not everyone can be a fire fighter. the experiences we go through, the things we see, smell, hear isn't something everyone is cut out for. it wouldn't have mattered how many fire fighters with tankers we had there. there were parts that you could never get an engine to, or even hoses to. the only thing that helped Gatlinburg was the wind died. without that dying out, the town would have been lost. I mean the whole town. the hydrants were taped out, so there was hardly any water to do anything with. literally it takes a 3in hose from a hydrant to an engine to fill up, with extremely high amounts of pressure. at around 4 am I could just rest my foot on the hose and cut off the water supple from the hydrant.

we had over 1200 fire fighters there that night...and still we saved some structures, but the stuff that was already engulfed we couldn't save. again it wouldn't matter the number of fire fighters, because you can't put out fire that you can't reach.

It's hard to try and imagine why all of you went through that night. I suppose Dante's Inferno would be a good start. I feel for all of you who responded, and your frustration at not being able to do more. With so much happening over such a large area, it was an impossible task, but was faced with a do or die spirit. I personally think that all of you did your best, there was nothing more you could do, considering the conditions. I give all of the first responders a HUGE high five! I am from Alabama, but I love visiting the area. I am anxious to visit soon to see the recovery. Keep up the great work!

I am very lucky to have moved from Gatlinburg because of personal reasons a few weeks before the forest fire happened. I used to live at gate house condos and I always passed all those places whenever I would go to friends or for a jog or for pizza up at dominos. I also went to roaring forks baptist church. I always walked up there for church. Luckily my friends and their families are safe. some of their houses burned down though.

Gatlinburg will never be the same. It was a beautiful little quaint mountain town. Now it’s like walking through a cheap carnival. Tattoo parlors liquor stores corn dogs and T-shirts hanging out on the sidewalk. It will never be the same. They must’ve needed a very quick influx of money after the fire and they sold out to anybody who could provide it. Oh, I forgot about the shops selling marijuana.😞

I've gone on some hikes and when you look in certain directions you can see how much of the trees the fire has gotten too. Lots of the fire has just hit the base of the tree so that may be why you can't see as much damage on the trees but I could be wrong. One trail I hiked in you were able to see black on the trees from the burns but I don't remember the trail name.
