How do you prevent your bicycle and your gear from being stolen when you go shopping for food? I know from experience that even when a bicycle lock is fitted, your bicycle can be stolen very quickly.
Hi Johnnste1! I'm Domenico, the reporter who made this video. Frederick never leaves his bicycle: some people he meets invite him for lunch or dinner, for example I have invited him for dinner. Frederick buys food only in open market with the bike or in a shop where you can bring your bike inside.
carry a lock that take a lot of time to break and you will be ok. Too many shops will let you bring your bike inside just ask politely . when buying bike or pannier/bags try to avoid bright flashy colors ,they attract attention. black or dark colors are perfect.
I used an old rusty steel bike with steel wheels. What people dont realise it was in perfect working order. I locked it with twisted steel wire lock around the front wheel and bike frame. Left it every where not once was it taken. I came across one person who left his gear in a camp ground to have a shower. Came back and his expensive panniers and gear were missing. Another person locked his bike up to a small tree. Some one came along and cut the tree down and carried every thing away. If it looks too good or too expensive some one will have a go at it.
Yes, the bike with all my luggage is around 50 kilos. Water and food are not included. If I travel with a full water tank that's 5 kilos more (5 kilos of water) and food is 4 kilos at a maximum. I Always buy the food while I travel to not have useless weights.
Are you using Rohloff or derailleur. Rohloff is amazing. Im thinking of going 48 spoke on rear with Rigida Grizzly/rigida rim. Tough like the andra 30. Sjs cycles Bridgwater Bristol do special spoke and hub drillings guessing same is for traditional shimano hubs. You're inspiring. Im planning a round the world.i love your honesty about how people get on in the world especially. How safe is Africa? Ive heard of possibly bad people but doubt its common. I dont think ill get mugged when i arrive, just concerned about many people that beg for money from white people. Generally from mark beaumonts trip they seemed harmless usually kids begging for money and tuk tuk drivers etc. Poorer People. You can follow or add me on Facebook too. I would love advice and could share soms too.
I wonder if our ancestors never started drinking alcohol if we would be able to drink water with out filtering, like all the other animals can do and bush people can do. I'm pretty sure Africans don't get sick from drinking river water or lake water like Eurasians do.
What tent are you using? Were you not concerned about criminals and TERRORISTS - like: Boko Haram, El Shabbab,...etc.? Also, were you not worried about the DANGEROUS wildlife?
Omg you ruined the video with that dreadfully annoying super over dramatic music. Half of UA-cam has it for everything from waking up to going to sleep and everything in-between 👎👎👎👎👎👎
Bravo vous êtres courageux j'ai beaucoup apprécié merci beaucoup à bientôt

Great video. Thnx for sharing 👍
If you want a regular 5V charge ability get a dynamo hub, a little-added weight but it will keep a couple doodads charged.
I worry that your bike is too loaded.. But you will figure out as you go . Bonne route !
incroyable! bonne courage!

Brave man.
I think you had bad luck in South Africa and met the wrong people most of us are very friendly and relaxed.

@@raymondmenz522 You could spray paint your bike and all the parts on it black so it looks like junk.
Very Nice! Good Luck!!!
Carry a solar charger to keep batteries charged.
No use a dynamo hub to charge your stuff.
50kg gear/bike? How many days of food/water does that include?

No music next time homie! I want to hear that voice loud and clear
Hi @EarnedNothing Thank you for your suggestion. Cheers, Domenico.
Pack seems a bit heavy.. and water filter i feel could be avoided
Hi Eric, I'm Domenico, the producer of this video. Yes, pack is a bit heavy, but the water filter is very important :-)
Merhaba
Were you traveling alone?
Hi Halama! Yes, Frederick traveled alone. Cheers, Domenico.
@@KissFromTheWorld crazy dude, really inspiring. Isn´t it dangerous with such expensive equip?
Did you say that sometimes it isn't safe to use the big camera? Why is this?
Because it attracts too much attention and someone can steal it.
Are you not afraid to sleep in a tent in a wildlife with dangerous animals like in Africa??
Hi Franz, the camping areas are safe :-)
@@KissFromTheWorld thanks
Hi how are you doing can I join you
