Great Video guys as always! You’re channel has helped me so much as far as my game goes! I just bought two 2000 grit pads for my Trend and that might be the best $13 I’ve ever spent because as soon as I hit the lanes I bowled my new high game at 224 and had the highest average I’ve had in league! Keep up the great work because you help so many up and coming bowlers like me!
I nominate this video gets redone with how much better y'alls camera quality is with new balls. It'd be fun. Maybe some overlays of same line with the different surfaces to see how it looks!
Good video very helpful. I agree the factory finish at Storm is correct but it is fun to see the changes. Was at the TOC in Akron this year the one Prather won and they were sanding Ufos and Physix couldn't believe when i seen it. Thanks.
I still couldn't even tell you why I surface my balls. I can tell you why I do it but I can't tell you if my logic makes sense. If I keep missing the pocket right (light) then I usually will surface my ball (depending on which ball it is) down to about a 1000 grit hoping that it'll allow it to get to the pocket instead of hitting right (light). Do I know if I'm actually doing the right thing? No fucking idea! 🤣
About 8 years ago, I sandblasted a hyroad. The thing had pits in it and everything. I don't throw a huge hook but the thing was hitting the 7 pin from a strike shot. Throwing it 19mph and firing from the 30 at the 5 lmfao
well this video just gave me some better insight as to what kind of surface will fit me best with my current arsenal and ill have to say polished, 3000 grit and maybe 1-2 balls with 2000 is around the ballpark i need to take on any lane patterns i face going into leagues for the first time and on the road to the masters. Great video and hope to see more like it with other bowling balls as well!
The Idol polished up actually had a pretty good look to it, kinda liked that slightly angular backend. Never thought to shine it up, may have to try it. Ended up polishing up my IQ Tour solid a while back and loved how it turned out. I imagine a league bowler could buy like 3 of the same ball, whatever their go to ball is and shine one up, take a 4 or 3000 grit pad to the second one, and maybe for the 3rd ball just go with a completely different drill pattern, pin down if you have most your other balls pin up, or vice versa, and you could bowl with just those 3 balls and probably do pretty well most days. Think the only time you'd run into a problem is bowling on completely burnt lanes, then you may need something completely different, unless you loft it a third of the way down the lane like a Robert Smith😆
Idol is my favorite ball too, haven't tried it polished. Usually have it between 2 and 3 thousand. Need to find something to use for game 3 when it starts leaving 10 pins.
Questions: Is choosing surface on Resin balls vs. urethane balls much different? Jungo liked 3000 for his resin but Barker liked 1000 for his urethane. Jungo is high rev and Barker lower rev. What should a low rev urethane bowler be thinking about for surface grit as ideal? What should a low rev resin bowler be thinking about for surface grit as ideal? What about higher rev bowlers for the same questions?
Yes much different for resin and urethane. Different characteristics. Also depends on speed for surface prep lane surface oil pattern etc. lots of variables. Test them out!! 🙂
This is one of the best produced bowling videos I've ever seen, and also one of the most informative - awesome job guys. Do the lanes at this center generally play as expected, longer, or shorter for the patterns that are laid out? Basically, what's the topography and lane surface like?
You're right and make a good point, was just a little easier shooting with polish first as to get a good shine on a ball you'll need a spinner, so we did the spinner work first then did the abralon pads by hand on the lanes
Jungo is more my style personally I love the channel the only thing is is I wish you guys had a left-hander that actually hook the dang ball I'm a left-hander myself and I'm trying to get some ideas of how to move forward after the fire in my area lost all the equipment I had I didn't really have much and I was hoping to get some ideas of what to look for in the more modern era of gear I've got somewhat about higher rev rate my bowling style is like a left-handed version of Tom Doherty you could say any advice on where to go for side of bowling gear hooking it is more my game any balls you guys would recommend would be highly appreciated
I have a slower ball speed around 14mph, 2 handed. Im having trouble getting my Phaze II down lane without it hitting straight through head pin and leaving splits. Do you think a ball like this with a lower differential will help my slower ball speed and help me get it down the lane easier? thanks
Nope, good eye though, that is what they call hazing, the early batches of the idol the cover stock would haze (turn lighter colour) if it sat in the same spot too long or if heat was applied
Ok, maybe someone can explain a couple things for me; I'm not very knowledgeable about using abralon pads, changing surfaces, etc. I've usually just had my pro shop owner watch me bowl and he usually made suggestions when I should get a ball sanded down or polished up. If I wanted to take a polished down to 3000, should I do it in steps......should I first take a 4000 to it and then go down to 3000, or can I just go straight to 3000? Also is there a certain amount of times I can use a pad on a bowling ball without worrying about taking down too much surface? I didn't know if you use a pad too much on a bowling ball if eventually the surface would be gone? My last question us, if I want to polish a bowling ball up, is it recommended to take it down to 1500? I notice pretty much every bowling ball that comes polished is usually a 1500 grit polished finish. What would be the difference between a ball taken down to 1500 grit and then polished and a ball taken down to 3000 grit and then polished? I'm guessing the 3000 grit polished ball would go even longer than the 1500 grit polished ball?
When you make the ball have a rough surface it will make it hook earlier and be smoother (creates friction with the lane earlier) so if you want more angular, polishing the P3 will do that for you
Hello, If you wanted to go to a proshop and make an arsenal (6 ball) for yourself, what balls would you choose? and what would be the drilling angles? sorry in advance for my bad translation
that's strange. the box finish on my idol from January 2020 is 2000 grit. How would i bring the finish UP to 3000 grit? that seems to be the sweet spot. Thank you!!
Nice Video. Question: I bowl with two hands like belmonte-ish, I have both of those balls and I was wondering since I have more rev should I change my covers because I do leave some ten pins with both or do I need to just stay consistent with finding my line and sticking to it or both? Any advice would help for house shot and other patterns
I never understood the purpose of using polish on any reactive ball ever since synthetic sanding pads changed the game. Last ball I bought first think I told the driller " before you drill a hole in it take that crap off and hit it with 3000 abarlon."
If you want the ball to do something completely different from what the ball was designed to do, the answer is not ruining the ball with the wrong surface.
Nice video. I 'd like to just point out that those numbers are what pads were used, not what the grit on the ball was. Unfortunately they don't match. You can check some experiments about surfaces on my channel, you might find them useful. Keep making good videos, and fun videos ! : )
@megatbasyarullah4859 i have been using 2000 under Ebonite factory polish. I have tried a few different grits and that works best for me. I used to use 800 then polish on my Total Envy. That was a 700 and 279 machine. I just couldn't get 1 pin to drop,no matter how good the shots were lol.
3:00 I spy with my two eyes.. 😮 If you know you know!

yea for the most part i feel like the box finish is ideal, but there are always exceptions, gets pretty soupy on tour lol
I bowled at the clinic. The pattern has so much volume you had to throw stronger balls with a dull surface

@@jrproshop thank you for the advice
Have you guys thought about using CTD try grit pads!
Yea we tried them in the shop, the abralon pads are bigger and thicker, much easier to use on the spinner and by hand

Less ball would be good to give you more options for lines. Hustle wine works good, very long and Flippy.
Polishing the phase 2 would, isn't that why you're on this video.
I can’t seem to decide whether 360 Grit or 500 Grit I should used on my 11 Pound Brunswick Twist which was a Low End/Entry Level Reactive Ball

How Strong is the omega Crux polished in combarsions to the Parallaxx and the halo pearl.
Alex
Well the omega should be polished if I’m correct. But the parallax is super aggressive and a halo is a slight step down
I just got a new Idol and the finish is 2000-grit pad. Has that changed at some point? You guys said the factory finish was 3000.
great hook on the bowling ball

@@jrproshop thanks for the explanation. Was kinda confused after I had a nasty pin gash in mine because they didn’t repolish it.
It hooks more and closer the lower the grit.
What was the surface before sanding it with 4000 .
Hi DE! We just put Storm xtra shine polish on top of the box finish.
I was wondering if the surface stays on the ball for ever or do u have to re apply it every once in a while
Yep re apply usually every 3-6 games
Can you get it back shiny after you do 500?
Yep, it just won't be as glossy as if you did 4000 then polish
I would like to see you bowl on natural wood lanes. Non-synthetic.
What polish brand did you use?
Storm Xtra Shine
Those pins sound dead.... are those string pins??
No
