I think it's the only martial art in entire world where we could see the opponents using weapons in a competition... Damn.. Dats my neighbouring state and I ain't know anything about it 👌👌👌👌
Hopefully it becomes a universal practice among all arts in the future. The lack of practical application is a major aspect behind many arts' stifling.
Next to Myanmar, not China. But in ancient time there was frequent wars between Kangleipak (present day Manipur) and china (called as pong by people of kangleipak) Myanmar (called Awa by people of kangleipak). This is just a brief, there is a long list in the history of kangleipak .
It's a unique and indegenous form and technique of martial arts. It not only teach you to defend yourself it also teach you to be decipline yourself and respect others.
It's altogether a different form of martial arts. I don't mean to disrespect any other martial arts form, but with kalari you couldn't protect your kingdoms from foreign invasions and your neighboring kingdoms. On the other hand in our heyday, we Manipuri even defeated combine might of different kingdoms from China. One particular king was named as "Khagi-ngamba" which literally means one who defeated Khagi/China. In our 3000 years long history we lost one and only a single war against Myanmar which we remember as 7 years of devastation. See and compare the size of countries and population differences between us and our yesteryear enemies to get a simple idea of how lethal and effective our "Thang-ta" was.

Yeah northeast India has many forms of traditional wrestling as well
We owe our present and past and future to this martial art. Our forefathers used this to keep our land from foreign invasions from Burma and China.
