  • Did you know that Yoga can easily injure you for life? While many famous Yoga instructors do not say that, there are plenty of scientific evidence that not all Yoga is safe. In fact various popular Yoga poses known as asanas are extremely dangerous. In this video you will learn not only what Yoga postures are dangerous, but also how a lack of critical thinking in Yoga leads to these potentially severe problems.
For more videos exposing the flaws and dangerous side of Yoga click here: • How I Learned That Yog...
Yoga dangers are many, but with proper teaching and critical thinking it can be safe and healing. I hope that this video will help you better understand what Yoga to trust and what Yoga not to trust and why it's so important to apply critical thinking to Yoga too. Injury in yoga can happen to anyone and it's important that your Yoga instructor would know how to avoid any injury that may happen, but in the end it's out responsibility to make sure we do not get injury ourselves.
For years I used to have a lack of critical thinking myself. I used to believe many things which had little evidence or truth behind them. These beliefs led me to decisions which did not turn out to my favor. Eventually I discovered critical thinking and changed my life for the better. Now I choose what I believe in with much more care. Make better, more informed decisions and enjoy the results. Yet it doesn’t take much time to see that many people still fail to separate true information from false. That’s why I created the Practical Critical Thinkers channel.
If you are looking for a critical thinking channel - look no more and let's create a culture of practical thinking together!
In this channel you will learn what is critical thinking, various critical thinking skills, find critical thinking exercises, learn how to use critical thinking in a debate, learn about the best critical thinking books out there, find critical thinking tutorials what results a lack of critical thinking has and much more.

Having been both a martial arts and yoga instructor it's interesting for me to observe that many problems that bad martial arts schools have, bad yoga schools have a lot of parallels. One of them is how quickly people can become instructors and how little they are required to know in order to teach in those schools. The other is how dangerous that can be.

I began a yoga practice in 1971 as a spiritual practice. Yoga is a state of being not a doing and it is also not a religion or affiliated with the Hindu religion. Somehow it morphed into a stretching class with people doing a lot of intense contortion body positions that have nothing to do with real life movement. You can go your entire life and never do plow pose or shoulderstand and your body will work just fine. However a regular diet of those poses can seriously damage your joints and the cohesion of your structure. Yoga is not regulated and never been biomechanically evaluated for safety or effectiveness. After people have begun to dislocate hip replacements in yoga classes, the mayo clinic now recommends avoiding child's pose, triangle, lunges with the rear foot perpendicular, shoulder stand etc. The body is not made of parts so focusing on yoga or exercise poses that engage the body in parts will not lead to cohesion in real life movement. All movements reverberate throughout the whole body. Also leg behind the head poses can put a huge stress on the cervical spine. More people are getting damage to the vertebral artery dissection or VAD. People are getting mini strokes. If you have to use your hands to put your feet somewhere on your body, they do not belong there. Also trying to force the body into yoga poses by having a teacher put you into yoga poses, makes no sense. Ashtanga yoga is not a sustainable practice at all as the human body is not designed to do these contortion poses. I did ashtanga many years ago until I figured out that many of the poses were over-stretching my spine and hip ligaments. I had a lot of neck and back pain when I did that practice as the focus on static stretching creates ligament laxity. As a professional bodyworker, I had many clients injured from yoga. The people with the most back pain have loose spine ligaments. Flexibility is a huge liability.Yogis never want to question the practice but we need to do that. Many of the Ashtanga yoga poses are derived from contortion routines and military drills. Jois claimed there was a scroll that showed the ashtanga poses that was ancient but when pressed to show it, he claimed it was eaten by ants! Apparently most yoga poses are only about 120 years old and have been heavily influenced by Western physicality. Jois was a sexual molester and also injured many people with his very forceful adjustments. He did not even do the practice after he reached the age of 41. I was one of the people that Jois sexually assaulted in 1991 and this has been documented in Matthew Remski's well researched book called Practice and All is Coming. In my decades of teaching, I have met so many people especially women who practiced ashtanga yoga and have had to get hip replacements. Beryl Bender and Jill Miller are two examples. There are many more and I am reading that orthopedic surgeons are calling yoga a hip killer. A yoga practice should stabilize joints and avoid static stretching which can really drive force to the joints. check out www.yogalign.com. Also here is P. Jois molesting people and injuring others in a video of him teaching. I do not trust anything this man taught and I recommend everyone use discernment before making your body do ashtanga yoga. vimeo.com/357016753

It's not the yoga's fault that people are getting injured . It is people's fault or instructors fault for doing yoga wrong or teaching yoga wrong . I am sorry and I am not saying this as a racist but many people in the West just teach yoga wrong , do it wrong and cause harm to others and themselves . This is shocking to me , when I Learn yoga from my teacher , he once said to me that how the people in the West just master a few postures and call themselves a yogi or a master. It takes decades to master yoga and even then you can't learn everything . And people in the West do yoga wrong , get injured and spread the message that oh yoga Is bad for your system , or oh yoga actually destroys your body etc . And don't just say things like yoga is not for everyone . Yoga is for everyone, but people just need to learn and do it the right way . Like other exercises people need too do it properly or get injured .

Nothing better could've happened with every tommy becoming a yoga instructor by purchasing certificates after attending 200 hr training program. At least here, it's well known that yoga should be learnt only under a proper instructor hailing from a legitimate tradition, failing which, it could cause serious ills.

Sorry for changing subject but, this thing it happens with karate stances too! Especially in shôtôkan! What I found is, my coach told me (for aesthetic and athletic purposes), to do low deep stances with my legs and knees facing slight inwards like zenkutsu-dachi, kôkutsu-dachi, kiba-dachi etc... (in order to be static), instant of keeping it in a normal straight position (in order to move). Which is eventually after 3 years I realized that over bending it was bad habit and it caused to me knee collapse syndrome! Back in the days before I started doing karate, my legs they've been in a healthy normal condition and I've running. But now I have difficulties to run normal again!

Yoga as it is being practiced today is quite a modern practice less than 150 years old. The old Hatha Yoga had only around 100 or less postures while the various yoga styles today have hundreds or even thousands. A very large number of today's yoga postures are simply made up, with neither tradition nor science to back them up. Some of them are as young as 30 or even 20 years old, completely made up by people who had no idea what effect those postures would have on the body since they didn't put any thought into it.

Finally someone points this out. And i am happy to inform you that everything in hadayogaprathipa’ yogasutra and kharasamhitha (the ancient texts) are nothing but fallacious concepts (yes! there are no ‘exercises’ in it). Its about stuff like attaining immortality! A key concept is if you stabilise your breath, mind and semen(women can’t be immortal i guess) you’ll become immortal.
with a modern understanding of anatomy the whole set of books is nothing but a laugh. The modern version and this new saga of yoga began from ABS iyyengar, who completely copied all of his exercises from eugene sandow and Dwight(anatomy of a contortionist).the funniest part is that if i start my own yoga, there are no source of reference or standard practices to even ensure that i am doing yoga! Hence the absurd number of schools like hot yoga, beer yoga etc.
Its just an absurd root sprouting even weirder branches.
Yoga is in fact homeopathy of exercises. And ancient people are always overrated. They were just as good as we are for their time, not to modern standards.

Yoga has the same problems than most martial arts: instructors who have been completely obsessed whit the "espiritual" side of the discipline, ignoring the physical one. The yoga poses are dangerous (and painful in some cases), of course; that's the fundamental thing in physical-oriented yoga variants (like ashtanga yoga): to develop your body and mind to be strong enough to manage that extreme conditions (always with a safe progression). I'm fortunate because i trained in a big gym, with professional instructors who constantly warn us about the injuries; but i see in my city a lot of "pseudo-sects" completely obsessed with the religious things around this discipline.

Quality over quantity does not mean sacrificing consistency and a high output. If anything, being able to produce smaller quantities likely means the quality of the training is less.
Another example from the military: all Special Forces members who also joined Ranger School have so far passed, but most US Army Rangers who tried the Q Course (Special Forces school) wash out. This is despite the Q course being considered easier than Army basic, and Ranger School being one of the toughest in the US military.

I found a Yoga UA-cam instructor video and started following it almost everyday for almost 2 1/2 weeks. I started because of some neck stifness which it helped with. So, I stay commited. I did lots of moves that put all my weight on my hands. My hands started to feel sore. My elbow felt slighly sore too. I ignored and kept on. That day my hands were sore, I did yoga again. And the next day I feel sharp zapping pains in my hand. Like a stinging zapping pain. And then the next day followed with soreness like I slapped my hands hard, The nerves or ligaments or Im not sure what it is hurts. My wrists slighly sore on the right along with lower arm. But my hands are painful and so are the occasional zapping when inflammtion is there and feels somewhat stiff. However, to the eye it looks normal. I sprained it for sure. So disappointed because I dont know how long it will take to heal and it hurts and cant really use my hands efficiently now.

Granted, this is just one side of the picture. BUT it is the side of the picture which is often left unsaid. I personally think that it's a responsibility of any serious practitioner of any practice to look at both the bright and the dark sides of it. I find that in yoga the dark side isn't addressed on many occasions - yet it's such a responsible area where damage can be done. Anyway, one way or another, I'm glad you've got a chance to learn about the other side of Yoga :)

Don't you think that you wanted yoga certificate just for business purposes and later on you might have found some better options so you just thought of making this video.

I think it really depends on who is the teacher. If you'll be able to find a yoga instructor who has a degree in sports science or has high qualification in fitness (approved national standards) then you're likely to have a good time. But instructors like this are hard to find so you have to choose carefully

As I've pointed out in the video a good way to look at yoga is that it's for people who don't have any injuries, especially in group classes since everyone does the same. Instead it's better to find a good fitness coach or therapist to give specific exercises for you
