    Seems there's different types of concrete for pools? First I'm hearing of vermiculite? Usually I see pool Crete or something called gunite?

    I’ve done two pools with a tops premix and will never ever use it again. It’s done nothing but haunt me and I have to come back for weeks to patch it or grind on it. No matter what you do it’s like the shit doesn’t mix or there’s no concrete in some bags. I’m either mixing it like this or I’m done with pool bottoms

    Hi- Since I can find an installer..... I'm considering on do a pool kit install myself... not 100% sure how much help I'll get.... so the question about doing these things over several days. Can I mix and install/apply the Vermiculite in sections? Obviously - overlap the areas as I do them.... but is there any major issue if I did the pool floor over a week's time (assuming no rain or other mother nature problems).... Thanks!

    I'm in the process of Replacing my liner.I now have my liner out. It's been out for about a week, and we are waiting for our liner to be made and shipped to us.The pool floor actually looks really good!! However, there is some ground water weaping at a few of the seams of the polymer walls where the floor meet... , and some sand from behind the wall too. Not a lot , of water, but some. My questions are 1) should we repair these weaping areas? , or not be concerned? 2) if I am going to repair this, with what product? I see a product called Hydracrete that works on wet/weaping areas, but I don't know if it is too rough for the underside of the liner.? Or should I use pool crete? If yes to the pool crete will it bond well? I saw the video on making old concrete bond with new concrete-- It said to Clean the area well, acid wash, then make a slurry of portland cement, water and a glue product by quick crete-- then paint it on, then apply the new concrete( Or pool crete is my question?) I don't want to mess up what looks like a really decent pool floor, but I don't want to regret not repairing the leaky areas either. And just FYI, we do have a sump pump in an underground barrel with holes in it to pump out ground water, near the pool, and this worked well to keep out ground water from collecting under our liner. I'm open to any and all suggestions!! Thank you!!

      Work on the grade around the pool. Run the water away from the pool. Where does the house sump pump discharge? Why do you have water behind your pool walls?
      We use poolcrete because it will pass water. Poolcrete can not be made water tight.

      If you have ground water, you will need to attach a gas pump to weep lines to pull the water while new liner is installed.

    what ratio do you mix the vermiculite/portland cement/sand at?

    • @owenscustompoolsinc.9152
      @owenscustompoolsinc.9152  8 років тому +2

      It's a 94 lb bag of portland cement to 6 cubic feet of #2 course vermiculite to 1 shovel full of lime to roughly 10-12
      gallons of water. Mix to the consistency of sticky oatmeal.

    I would like to know the same thing. We have a pool made with this crap and it is so badly degraded, it's pretty much just loose sand at the bottom of our pool.

    • @owenscustompoolsinc.9152
      @owenscustompoolsinc.9152  8 років тому

      That was probably a sand and cement mix and not a vermiculite pool floor. You can re-coat the entire floor with a vermiculite mix using the formula I wrote under Cameron Hazlewood's question.

    • @MrCougar214
      @MrCougar214 8 років тому

      +David Owens no. it is vermiculite. the pool was professionally installed. the problem is the tenants that lived here for 7 years never bothered to tell us the liner degraded. it was so bad hen we kicked them out the pool liner was completely gone! and the vermiculite has broken down to nothing but sand. can we just put a concrete floor and aide walls in instead of this vermiculite stuff?

      @@Concrete1233 I did nothing. The pool is still sitting in this condition. I'm waiting on my father-in-law to back fill the pool and I'm gonna just put an above ground up in it's place.

      you're crazy I'm in the same situation with the pool not in working order for a few years and the floor not looking so good but I think it'll be way better just to fix the floor and fix the liner I'm trying to plan right now and budget to get mines done
