Patrice Rushen said that they were in the studio working on a new album, and her bass player, (“Ready” Freddy Washington), was groovin on a line. She liked it and asked him what it was. He said, “Oh it’s just a little something that I use for warming up.” And she’s like, “Oh nnnoooo, we’re recording that!!” And the rest is funky history!!
All time classic jam. George Michael sampled it in his song "Fast Love" and Will Smith sampled it in the theme song from the first "Men In Black." Patrice is very underrated.
Patrice Rushen Is One of The Best Artist that Ever Did IT. She Has A lot Of Good Music. A lot Of Her Jams Were Sampled In Hip Hop. I was in High School When This Came Out.
Check out Patrice Rushen’s “To Each His Own”, “Superstar”, “ Haven’t You Heard” and “Don’t Blame Me”. She has many, many more really good songs, including jazz. She not only sings buts plays the piano and several other instruments. She composes her own music as well. She is awesome and is one of my favorites!
Disco came along in the late 70's and ruined Funk. I will never forget or forgive. There were survivors like Patrice Rushen. Long live funk and soul. I'm a hunky from the 60's, and I love Funk.
It's too bad Clive Davis was clueless about Patrice Rushen's musical talent. Otherwise, I really believe she would have had more of a musical catalog. I've been a fan of hers since "Haven't You Heard" (1979).
And played her own instruments...all of them...and put together and orchestrated her own music ! Brains and Beauty !

I love the song. When it was first released back in the 80s I thought it was Janet Jackson.
