    The ending didn't quite sit with me. Marvin does not just have abandoned-child issues, he is a psychopath. And Abigail is personality disorder... but then again, so is Neve. It's seems their childhood wasn't good so perhaps their father was abusive and Marvin turned out like him.
    At the end when Neve left with the delivery guy, Marvin and his sisters characters surely would have given chase to stop her getting help. And I'm sure her younger children would have thought she'd escaped for that reason.. They would not have formed an abandonment unity with their abusive half siblings.
    Alternatively, Marvin would have killed his half sibling in revenge as he resented them deeply. He had just trashed the house, threated to kill - and without conscience, caused the fathers death. .

    I honestly like the idea of showing life from a “mulatto” perspective. Or even from the perspective of wanting to APPEAR mulatto just for a better survival rate. (Which is very sad.) we aren’t allowed to be white. Only black. That isn’t our faults. We have our own set of rules, that not only align with how deeper Melanated brothers and sisters must live, but how there is a WHOLE SEPARATE set of rules for us. All of us are being punished by the same people. Just in different ways. I also love the fact that to ANY black person, one could tell that she was one of African ancestry. And well, maybe even the viewer. But the yt characters just see white skin, a certain way of speaking, and an “appearance” and adjust themselves based off of your willingness to be… acceptable to them. The story isn’t original. And the acting and writing is a little questionable. But it certainly is interesting. Perhaps if you can stop comparing everything to dollars in the box office and whose name is on a credit, you might be able to just experience someone’s story. Emotional development…
    Hard work that is. I find the most judgmental people are the ones who lie in the shadows, avoiding the judgement they destroy others with.

      Mulatto = 1590s, "one who is the offspring of a European and a black African," from Spanish or Portuguese mulato "of mixed breed," literally "young mule," from mulo "mule," from Latin mulus (fem. mula) "mule" (see mule (n.1)); possibly in reference to hybrid origin of mules (compare Greek hēmi-onos "a mule," literally "a half-ass;" as an adjective, "one of mixed race"). As an adjective from 1670s. Fem. mulatta is attested from 1620s; mulattress from 1805.

    The movie is really bad! The plot was okay... then writing and the end are ridiculous and bad! Just bad at so many level. They could go deeper on the past of her children.. why killing the dad? Just because he is white? Or because he is a good man? What is the message of the movie? What was the goal of that movie? So she is just running away from her black side because being a black person is a bad? And of course the guy she is running away with, is white! Why why why? I have so many question! Please someone know let me know, i am very confused.

    • @saviotti101
      @saviotti101 Рік тому +2

      Yes you made some very good observations and questions that need a logical response, however no such logical response will be provided due to regrettably this being another confusing film which the (though the director "Black") Producer - a Caucasian woman tries to be "liberal" to as usual leave us more confused than before we watched the film in the first place. This film I think was created to overtly show (failed attempt to be sublime) how "superior and Privileged" Caucasians still are and how "animalistic and terrifying" so called "black" people are and still remain. Sad to say...nothing much has really changed in the psyche and paradigm of "most liberal" Caucasian people.

      The dad is the only white person there. Just as Neve wanted to erase all her black persons in her life, the kids wanted to erase the white.
      The weight carrying scene is also symbolic. Listen back to the dialogue exchanged.
      The killing Is also a trauma projection of a father figure they never had. It is a brilliant movie that needs to be reflected on

    • @saviotti101
      @saviotti101 Рік тому +2

      @soulseek80 nic Hmmm, not too sure really, I feel there is a lot of unnecessary unpacking to do. Though I saw a lot in the metaphor and symbolism/representations in the film, I still think it was basic and as usual with these type of films leaving me feeling like there are so many different hidden agendas to leave the audience with a lot of unanswered questions that can feed into usual stereotypes about "Black" people and their "broken down" families and once again showing how if you get with a Caucasian man then that marks the ideal love and family setting, but even then one who is still "savage" will end up destroying such a "dream" get-away. Though a different film in most ways, I thought the film Farming was way better with so much context to the storyline.

    I was very skeptical about The Strays (2023). However, when the scene of the charity banquet in the garden appeared, memories of uncertainty, surprise and fear came back, straight from another screening, namely the film entitled Get Out! (2017), which I loved with undying love!

    Very interesting but disturbing film! Portrayed dark skinned black people as low-down jealous wanna be gangster thugs who are jealous of light skinned creoles to the point of wanting to totally destroy their lives. Felt that the film used several serious issues to try to give some sort of justification for that (abandonment). Really, really creepy stuff. I wondered if some of the actors were actually truly playing their real characters within the film in terms of it being their own personal and private views towards skin colour and complextion in the black communities as it just seemed so REAL in how they came across!

    The ending, never havwe I seen a ending like this before and felt sofriustrated and left in the dark. I have always been a huge fan of mind benders, sci fis and realistic thrillers but the ending, omg. Worst part of the film, but at the same time it really made this film the complete opposite of a fairy tale ending. I hate that the father paid the price. But I also see why Cheryl left her last husband. However she abandoned her children (The Strays) so whats the excuse for that. And her children (The Strays) you feel sorry for until you realize they are complete psychopaths. It seems Cheryl has cracked, completely lost her marbles, now the viewer of this film is begging for Cheryl to alert the pizza boy. suddenly the Father of the house, dead. Then his children hear it and are instantly in shock. Cheryl finally heads towards the door and then....
    Door closes.
    Worst ending in film history but whoever thought of this plot knew how crazy concept of abandonment would throw the viewers off. One of the craziest plots in a drama and truly original if you ignore the fact that this feels like a rendition of Jordan Peeles film "US". I give it a 7 out of 10 because the ending is so gut wrenching. It leaves the viewers racking there brain as to what happened next.

    I don't like how it started in such a small screen format then goes into a full screen format that was odd so her real name is Cheryl Blake and she has a daughter named Dione/Abigail because you look up the movie her name is listed as Abigail but you tap on the actress name it comes up Dione so that's odd and I guess her other son Carl/ Marvin who was the janitor at the school so four kids pretty much two she had in a prior relationship and left and now Mary and Sebastian are you kidding me ??? So the mom takes off and just abandons her kids Dione and Carl for the second time in their lives and mary and Sebastian for the first ever like wow ma of the year maybe she's getting cops or something who knows but yeah I hated the ending like watch her idk start over again and all the kids end up going after that family or psycho Carl could think of a very awful game like what sibling dies first something like that or Carl and Dione can leave and let those two drown or something but imagine that happens and they get away they could later get revenge for that and killing their dad so many different endings some would be perfect for a sequel maybe
