I can relate to all what you have said … coming from a humble background, sarkari schooling … minimal exposure to English only in higher schools .. all add to the inferiority complex what we wear on our sleeves in the early days of our college … you are constantly afraid of being judged .., and mostly try to run away from anything which required a spontaneous conversation in English … Internet is a great leveller .. otherwise how can an ordinary middle aged guy can listen to your great talks .. Offcourse it's not about glorifying any particular language but we have to accept that English is an integral part of our day to day life. Especially during this lockdown when we are not communicating enough, I am struggling so much while speaking English. The most important tip is to be fearless and confident. A lot of people just get nervous and shy away, specially when it comes to speaking English. One should be encouraged to start right from school itself. The best practices would be to take part in all the co-curricular activities in the school, from reciting, to debate, to speech competitions, from reading news, giving pledge, speech in the morning assembly. Speaking in English with teachers at school is also the best way to practice. Also, one more thing. Students should carry a pocket dictionary with them to school, so that they can look up for a word right there and then. This way they can several words, at least one new word everyday. Also, I wonder how Ankur didn't mention the legendary Wren and Martin book. This one is nostalgic and legendary thing for all the 80s and 90s kid. It comes really handy with beautiful and simplified examples. Every student should have a copy of this, even an adult can.

I dont know why am watching it. Though i know english and speak well . In my point of view your all points are true and 100 % work. I read online books novels fiction stories , which helps me to learn more new words and sentences. I used to write personal diary since school time . Half english and half hindi. ( Just a beginner things) Most important. Practicing with someone. So here is my fun tip. I play online game where we connect with many different players all around the world . So when i started playing i came across many people who speak different language so i have to speak english to connect with them . I got new friends with who i speak english only Participating in public speaking. I did that . My first experience in school was not that good . After years my teacher made me to participate in speach competitions ... And last time when i participated , i got 3rd position... Don't be afraid of making mistakes we all are learners . So that's all my experience . Hope anyone who's reading this will help you .

There's a one more tip that will really help non native speakers to speak english confidently. Write a script on paper and sit in front of your camera, it could be your phone camera too and speak as if you are talking to someone and record it. This is really a good way of learning for shy people. I hope this will make a difference for atleast one person. Anything we can learn when number of resources are limited. I give one example of this from my life experience. When I was in college, that time my friend has a book and don't have that book, and after two days we have exam on that subject. So i starting presentation from my friends book and I top that subject in class. I have limited resource that reason only I succeeded in that subject.

At my first job, my senior was a Tamil girl who could only speak in Tamil and English. I spoke with her only in English. Be it work related, asking doubts, explaining my issues, tea conversations, movie discussions & gossips. After a year, I noticed that my command over spoken English language has improved significantly. And the credit goes to that activity of speaking daily with an English speaker. Hence, I can vouch for the advice of getting in touch with native speaker. Cheers! Also I'd like to add, not only reading, but active LISTENING can improve your sentence formation drastically. It is that reason why people pick up foreign languages faster when they are present in the foreign environment. It is due to the constant presence of the language.
Tip: Keep the subtitles on for whatever movies/series you watch on your phone, even if you are familiar with the language. I've learned more English from watching Netflix than my university professor could ever teach me.

The most important tip is to be fearless and confident. A lot of people just get nervous and shy away, specially when it comes to speaking English.
One should be encouraged to start right from school itself. The best practices would be to take part in all the co-curricular activities in the school, from reciting, to debate, to speech competitions, from reading news, giving pledge, speech in the morning assembly. Speaking in English with teachers at school is also the best way to practice. Also, one more thing. Students should carry a pocket dictionary with them to school, so that they can look up for a word right there and then. This way they can several words, at least one new word everyday.
Also, I wonder how Ankur didn't mention the legendary Wren and Martin book. This one is nostalgic and legendary thing for all the 80s and 90s kid. It comes really handy with beautiful and simplified examples. Every student should have a copy of this, even an adult can.

So here is my fun tip. I play online game where we connect with many different players all around the world . So when i started playing i came across many people who speak different language so i have to speak english to connect with them . I got new friends with who i speak english only
Participating in public speaking.
I did that . My first experience in school was not that good . After years my teacher made me to participate in speach competitions ... And last time when i participated , i got 3rd position...
Don't be afraid of making mistakes we all are learners .

I saw first time such kind of video who explaining practical way to start communication in english. Thanks Ankur. You are such kind of person, I just wants to listen only whenever you speak.
There's a one more tip that will really help non native speakers to speak english confidently.
Write a script on paper and sit in front of your camera, it could be your phone camera too and speak as if you are talking to someone and record it. This is really a good way of learning for shy people. I hope this will make a difference for atleast one person.

Anything we can learn when number of resources are limited. I give one example of this from my life experience. When I was in college, that time my friend has a book and don't have that book, and after two days we have exam on that subject. So i starting presentation from my friends book and I top that subject in class. I have limited resource that reason only I succeeded in that subject.

At my first job, my senior was a Tamil girl who could only speak in Tamil and English. I spoke with her only in English. Be it work related, asking doubts, explaining my issues, tea conversations, movie discussions & gossips. After a year, I noticed that my command over spoken English language has improved significantly. And the credit goes to that activity of speaking daily with an English speaker. Hence, I can vouch for the advice of getting in touch with native speaker. Cheers!
Also I'd like to add, not only reading, but active LISTENING can improve your sentence formation drastically. It is that reason why people pick up foreign languages faster when they are present in the foreign environment. It is due to the constant presence of the language.
Tip: Keep the subtitles on for whatever movies/series you watch on your phone, even if you are familiar with the language. I've learned more English from watching Netflix than my university professor could ever teach me.
