    In this video Dan takes the all new Beneteau Swift Trawler 41 through her paces a few miles offshore of the Gold Coast in sunny Queensland.
    She's a beauty this boat with twin shaft diesels that will never go out of fashion and the ability to run economically at 15-19kts in the ocean making those holiday adventures much more within reach.
    She's an amazingly practical boat that does what you would expect but constantly surprises you with clever design and space saving ideas which are all wrapped up in a useable and luxurious interior.
    You're have to SUBSCRIBE for the walkthrough video coming soon
    Enjoy

      I'll get it done over summer holidays. This channel has grown a lot faster than i had expected so been busy filming. We put this this edit on the backburner as Beneteau ended up selling out until 2023 soon after this video so even if you want one for this summer they are sold out! Thanks for watching!

    Very interesting the consumption at the different speed levels and the reaction of the boat on the trim tabs!! Thanks for that!!

    • @BoatLife_DansBoatLife
      @BoatLife_DansBoatLife  3 роки тому +3

      Yes i was expecting the hull to require trim tab down at high revs but she settled into a nice attitude at high speeds without tabs telling me she's got a well ballenced underwater profile. This boat would make an awesome family holiday boat in my opinion.

    Thanks for the great detailed info. We saw a 2024 Swift Trawler 48 yesterday at a boat show and loved it. We prefer the aft kitchen and bright interior that doesn't resemble my parents wood panel basement from the 1980s. I think the 41 is probably the sweet spot for us to do the Great Lakes and ICW. So many of the tug and trawler interiors and cabins look like they haven't been updated in 30 years. I can't believe they cost a million bucks. I've watched a ton of your reviews, they are great!

      Thanks for this feedback it's super interesting to hear from you guys who are using my videos to educate yourself on boats. I'm in the US and was also at a boat show last weekend in Newport. I see your point about the traditional interior designs on many of the local boats. They appear to be doing very well on quality on all the American boats I saw but the Europeans are more ahead on design and space utilization. Inflation - i'm seeing the prices going up in every western country i've traveled to. It's very noticable since 2019. It's not the builders fault they keep getting price rises on all the inputs which is causing this.

    Hi Dan, great sea trial review. Just wanted to recheck, were the engines on the boat you tested the latest Yanmar 320s or the original Volvo Pentas? If so, they seem a touch more economical than the previous test numbers from the Volvo Pentas might suggest. Tx.

    • @BoatLife_DansBoatLife
      @BoatLife_DansBoatLife  3 роки тому +4

      G’day Teng, we had the original Volvos which are no longer being offered with the boat. Remember we were not loaded with personal gear so when the boat is heavy she will use a bit more. She drives good though! I’d love a Swift Trawler to take on holidays

    Dan - Great Video and surprisingly impressive boat. Have you seen any performance metrics for the Yanmar 8LV 320’s?

    • @BoatLife_DansBoatLife
      @BoatLife_DansBoatLife  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks Eric, i'm glad you got some value from it. I have not seen any and i'm aware they are now coming with the Yanmar's and i suspect the speed numbers to be similar but the Yanmar's to be working less so your economy may be improved. I also thought that for a family cruiser this is both sensible and very easy to operate while also giving the owners a lot of bang for their buck in terms of space and functionality.

      @@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Dan - again great review….My wife and I are very long term sailors and are going to the darkside (our recent boat that we just sold boat was a wauquiez 47 that we put over 40k miles on her bottom). We were lucky enough to get an opportunity to pilot a Beneteau ST 41 during Annapolis boat show in some not so perfect conditions (18 + nauts of wind on the nose and a 3 foot plus chop). I was quite surprised how sure footed the boat was easily cruising at 18 to 20 with excellent sea motion. we liked it so much, we bought one. Thanks for your review!

    Did Beneteau get rid of stern thruster? I thought 2020 model had both stern and bow thrusters.

    • @EgilWar
      @EgilWar 3 роки тому +2

      With twin engines you really don't need thrusters. The bow one is useful with sidewinds as is sits high but the stern has some water under the keel and the twin engines.

    • @BoatLife_DansBoatLife
      @BoatLife_DansBoatLife  3 роки тому +5

      You know i didn't once feel the need for a stern thruster as the props bite quite well and swing the arse around with a gentle touch or port or stb levers. Agree with Egil that the bow thruster is handy to hold her alongside the dock.

    How long is it safe to run the engines at displacement speeds? And what is the burn and SOG on one engine at a safe power level because it probably cant run at displacement speeds for long on both engines

    • @BoatLife_DansBoatLife
      @BoatLife_DansBoatLife  Рік тому

      Motors like this are designed to run for days at displacement speed so no worries. Fuel burn one motor - I don’t know I didn’t check

I'm trying to give people an opportunity to learn about boats while borders are closed but some of the boats i've filmed have ended up selling quite quickly. What would the range be at 7 knots? Any idea?

    • @BoatLife_DansBoatLife
      @BoatLife_DansBoatLife  2 роки тому +1

      If i mentioned the fuel flow at 7kts you can calculate using the tank capacity and leaving a 10 - 15% reserve. I filmed this over a year ago so it's not front of mind for me

    • @tlevans62
      @tlevans62 2 роки тому

      @@BoatLife_DansBoatLife no worries, it's likely a bit more efficient with the yanmar engines too. I think you said it was using just under twelve liters an hour at 7.4 knots, so I'm guessing around 11 liters an hour at 7knots. So just over 700 nm. I guess if you went along at 6 knots you'd likely stretch the range to over 800 nm.

    How does it compare to a Nordhavn 41?

    • @BoatLife_DansBoatLife
      @BoatLife_DansBoatLife  Рік тому +2

      Very different boats, I have to preface this by saying i've not driven the Nordhavn 41 but I do follow the brand closely. Nordhavn is built for long range ocean crossings with multiple redundancy. Beneteau Swift Trawler is targeted at the mass market of family boaters looking for a weekender and occasional coastal cruising. The high speed capability of the Beneteau makes it more convenient for time pressured working people. Nordhavn is for those seeking adventure and planning on a big long term cruise.

    That is like 1.7mpg at 11mph and 2.8mpg at 8.5mph! Fuck, that is amazing!!!
    You could easily get over 600 miles per tank at 9mph in this thing!
    Now, they need to make a galley down, twin cabin, single head layout and I'm there!!!!

    • @BoatLife_DansBoatLife
      @BoatLife_DansBoatLife  3 роки тому +4

      Yeah Charlie i reckon this is a great coastal cruiser. Two cabin would be cool but i thought the current layout offered a lot of options. I've filmed a walkthrough which i'm editing now actually. I'll try to translate into American in future so you guys can understand the numbers. We don't use Gallons down here so i will need to work it out

    • @charlieodom9107
      @charlieodom9107 3 роки тому +1

      @@BoatLife_DansBoatLife no need to translate into American! I can do the math rather easily.
      I just don't like the galley up layout, as it takes a lot of salon space away. Most manufacturers are doing the galley up now, since that seems to be the trend.
