Never played dnd. Does this how "dm defending players from their stupidity" really looks like? Also, it's kinda sad, that if that would've been a real campaign, preparations and plot about underdark, grove, goblins, hag, grymforge etc were just skipped by the players "trying to cure themselves before it's too late". Tho it does make sense with plot like that outside of videogames perhaps
I can confirm that (as a DM) if the NPCs the players encounter say "you're going to turn into a mind flayer soon unless you find a cure" they're probably going to beeline it for a cure and ignore the cool underdark sidequest. However! BG3 creates a false sense of urgency that you (as a DM) can say, "hey, I know you guys as players don't trust this mind flayer who's protecting you, but the artifact you have is protecting your characters from turning into a mind flayer"
@@NecklineArmada that makes sense. The game also does that with the unavoidable "absolute voice -> artifact protection" cutscene, followed by the night with dream visitor promising protection. So, plot wise, players can be really urgent in following the main quest, until unavoidable points, where main quest is now "Discover how artifact protects you, while searching for a cure". Players would've been able to understand that, unlike the current AI. And, I assume, players also sick side quests for level ups in tabletop too, so now with the relief that death is not unavoidable without a cure, they will seek EXp.
Generally speaking, when there is what seems like a time crunch in character I will tell the players they are fine. I am running a pathfinder adventure path atm, and in session 0 i told them there is no time crunch in most cases so they are free to come and go as they wish. there might be a time where they trigger something but i would make it clear that it was something they needed to take note of when they triggered it. The adventure itself is a 10 level mega dungeon, and i wanted them to feel free to explore, take downtime in town, ect without feeling like if they did that they would die. Even knowing that sometimes they get laser focused though lol
The Emperor sends the artifact zooming to his one remaining potential pawn, and Astarion on zero character development promptly zooms straight to the opposite side of the world from Cazador. The Absolute? Sounds like someone else's problem to him!

Would love to see the GPT4 version of this. This was fun, really cool idea for a video. And, while it obviously works best with a DnD game, you could theoretically "Dungeon Master" any heavily choice-based game for GPT. This could be a whole series.
Amazing, the world needs to see a sequel to this, where ChatGPT beats Baldur's Gate 3 having learned from the failures of the last playthrough (or gets closer to beating it)
Lmao at 19:15 - she manages to peacefully solve the situation and the goblins run away, good job! Alara - "The only good goblin is a dead goblin 😀" I think that was a request to chase them lmao
18:27 HAHA DO NOT APPROACH THAT BARN! ABORT, ABORT!! xD boy did i regret my curiosity that day. i was not happy finding out what made that noise but sometimes you just want to know.
This is hilarious because I'm in several large BG3 groups, and I've actually seen SEVERAL new people try to play this game in this way. With as hard as the game tries to make sure you know you can explore all you want, SO many people still power through. I even had one poor soul who was level 5 trying to beat Myrkul.
I love your videos! You have such a fun personality for commentary! Please make more Balders Gate content! Maybe try to beat the game without killing anyone to make up for the slaughter on the previous series?
I remember when I started watching this series Cathy has grown a lot from the Elden ring video and I hope this series continues because I love it keep up the good work dumpy
GPT needs more explanations and context to have any kind of sense similar to a human's. Also its token limit/context window is extremely short, so it forgets important information very quickly unless you use the new Memories feature. This is one of the reasons you were running into some key issues. Gemini has a 1 million token context window which makes it better suited to long adventures, but I don't know if that's included in the free version or how the quality is on it.
Maybe if you would have said to the AI that exploring the crypt might mean they will meet allies like Laezel that she already met would have helped her decisions at the beginning
I've just been recommended this video and I'm only 5 minutes in, but the editing in this is absolutely spectacular. The background music at minute 19 is extremely overpowering though, makes it very hard to hear you. Calmer music when narrating would have been nice. I love how immersively the AI played. As a player, you know it's a game and you're likely free to do whatever, and the "urgent" mainstory isn't as urgent as the game makes it sound (which, on a DnD table, would absolutely be heavy metagaming). I like ChatGPTs approach.
Great video as always! I kind of find this fascinating as a case study of BG3's narrative-gameplay breakdowns. As you said in the video Cathy was "too smart" sometimes and played-like an actual D&D player instead of treating it like a videogame. Don't get me wrong I love BG3 but it does have some serious narrative issues
I hope the day comes when I can play co-op with the AI because I have no friends. With the new chat models that have come out so far with much longer context window, it would be interesting to do a video like this again.
dude, that takes some mega patience because your having to either text everything thing for her to see what is going on or speaking it to her in detail.
This mirrors pretty closely how my first attempt at the game went. Because of all the DIRE WARNINGS about the mind flayer brainworms, I never even long rested out of fear of an invisible timer and beelined the creche that the first companion wouldn't stop shouting at me about. And people wonder why new players get the wrong idea about what the devs want you to do...
This video made me realise the potential for ChatGPT to make character designs! The half-orc was giving main character vibes. Also, really cool idea for content!

DanRack has a non-permadeath chatgpt plays BG3 series
"her train is on the right track, just sideways" that's genius and I'm stealing it harder than kathy stole the works of writers
I have seen some players do the beeline thing 😂
To be fair the first time through I also assumed this was urgent. I think it could have been better written.
interesting how ChatGPT considers tings very similarly to the Emperor; and is also a Lae'zel simp.
The Emperor sends the artifact zooming to his one remaining potential pawn, and Astarion on zero character development promptly zooms straight to the opposite side of the world from Cazador. The Absolute? Sounds like someone else's problem to him!
100% stealing the name "Crag Stonefist" for something in the future (be it a PC I play, or an NPC I drop somewhere into my world. That name is just too good NOT to be stolen XD
Would love to see the GPT4 version of this. This was fun, really cool idea for a video. And, while it obviously works best with a DnD game, you could theoretically "Dungeon Master" any heavily choice-based game for GPT. This could be a whole series.
We need to see Cathy do it again
"I apologize, I got a little mixed up. I'll choose firebolt!" lmaooo
the horror of slowly realizing this isn't a "act 1" video. it's going to be the whole run because of kathy's decisions 😂😂
19:20 ''The only GOOD goblin is a DEAD goblin'' HAH! aint that the truth.😂
dumpy: "I accidentally killed Wyll"
Kathy: "It's okay, accidents happen"
Honestly when I play bg3 I can’t stop making new characters maybe I need chat gpt to make my decisions for me 😭
"May Shart rest in peace" killed me. 😂
Kathy proving why milestone leveling works better for narrative heavy campaigns
Amazing, the world needs to see a sequel to this, where ChatGPT beats Baldur's Gate 3 having learned from the failures of the last playthrough
(or gets closer to beating it)
"twinkish elf man" 😭😭
If you ever need a new Kathy drawing, I’d honestly love to draw her.
Now use it to help you beat some messed up game full of bad choices 🗿
I actually really enjoyed this; I’d love to see a continuation! Or an updated run when 4.0 comes out
Lmao at 19:15 - she manages to peacefully solve the situation and the goblins run away, good job!
Alara - "The only good goblin is a dead goblin 😀"
I think that was a request to chase them lmao
I would legitly watch a series of 4 AI all playing a game together, even tabletop stuff.
18:27 HAHA DO NOT APPROACH THAT BARN! ABORT, ABORT!! xD boy did i regret my curiosity that day. i was not happy finding out what made that noise but sometimes you just want to know.
damn she was really determined to get party wiped by the gith
"Good goblin is a dead Goblin" i love that 😂
This is hilarious because I'm in several large BG3 groups, and I've actually seen SEVERAL new people try to play this game in this way. With as hard as the game tries to make sure you know you can explore all you want, SO many people still power through. I even had one poor soul who was level 5 trying to beat Myrkul.
This was actually great with permadeath, because you got the AI actually role-playing the character, which honestly, is the best way to replay BG3.
Skipping the main quest and just doing random stuff is the true RPG experience.
"Her train is on the right track, it's just sideways." 😂
PLEASE more Kathy. This was so entertaining.
I love your videos! You have such a fun personality for commentary! Please make more Balders Gate content! Maybe try to beat the game without killing anyone to make up for the slaughter on the previous series?
Kathy: I stand between lawful good and neutral
Actual play: chaotic
I remember when I started watching this series Cathy has grown a lot from the Elden ring video and I hope this series continues because I love it keep up the good work dumpy
GPT needs more explanations and context to have any kind of sense similar to a human's. Also its token limit/context window is extremely short, so it forgets important information very quickly unless you use the new Memories feature. This is one of the reasons you were running into some key issues. Gemini has a 1 million token context window which makes it better suited to long adventures, but I don't know if that's included in the free version or how the quality is on it.
Wyll **dies**
ChatGPT : "Oh no ! Anyway ..."
Maybe if you would have said to the AI that exploring the crypt might mean they will meet allies like Laezel that she already met would have helped her decisions at the beginning
15:00 Every DM ever: "THAT'S EXACTLY HOW IT FEELS!!" 😂
11:20 Big missed opportunity to not let the AI answer Wither's question about the value of a mortal life.
this was a great idea, very fascinating to see how AI "thinks"
John Halo: Where's Cortana? I want Cortana!
Dumpykong: We have Cortana at home.
Cortana at home:
12:33 “a twinkish elf man” 😂
I've just been recommended this video and I'm only 5 minutes in, but the editing in this is absolutely spectacular.
You should give Kathy another chance, this was great
5:00 glad I’m not the only one that wanted Goliaths. They’re the best!
this was a really fun idea hopefully we can see more d&d action with kathy in the future
When the world neede him most, he returned!
OMG I loved how you reacted to the AI's bad choices hahahaha
i really enjoyed this! would love to see Kathy on 4.0 giving it another go.
A Kathy-Dark Urge run could be very interesting
Pleeeaaasssee make a part 2 to this. kathy is incredible and her play style is unmatched XD
I hope the day comes when I can play co-op with the AI because I have no friends.
With the new chat models that have come out so far with much longer context window, it would be interesting to do a video like this again.
please do this again too see what choices would the AI pick this time
ANOTHER BG3 VIDEO?!
IM IN HEAVEN
Bro, so true, ChatGPT so damn good for my final year of Uni 🙏
dude, that takes some mega patience because your having to either text everything thing for her to see what is going on or speaking it to her in detail.
I love this idea man, keep it up! I would love to see more of this content
at this point we're going to run out of all games before we get elden ring dlc
This mirrors pretty closely how my first attempt at the game went. Because of all the DIRE WARNINGS about the mind flayer brainworms, I never even long rested out of fear of an invisible timer and beelined the creche that the first companion wouldn't stop shouting at me about. And people wonder why new players get the wrong idea about what the devs want you to do...
This video made me realise the potential for ChatGPT to make character designs! The half-orc was giving main character vibes. Also, really cool idea for content!
