  • This battle is dedicated to my loyal servant Nozuchi, who died for our sins and was resurrected as our savior.
    Rules:
    1. All forced battles are fought on Apocalypse difficulty.
    2. Experience gain is minimized by only fighting forced battles and recruiting demons when necessary.
    3. No fusing demons. Compendium usage is fair game.
    4. No skill changes or using the Skill Plugin app.
    5. No stat boosting items or apps, including Armor Boost Kits. (RIP my endgame +380 HP, +60 AG on Nanashi from Armor Boost Kits)
    Satan is a great boss for the final stretch of Apocalypse. He's one of the most memorable bosses in the game, as well as one of the most challenging. I'd place him as the third or fourth-most challenging boss in the run (up to this point), behind Sukuna-Hikona and Vishnu-Flynn, and possibly Krishna. We need a true battle to see if I'm even worthy of facing YHVH, and Satan doesn't disappoint.
    Even though Satan only sports single-target attacks, the raw power of his moves and his dangerous buff/debuff routine make him a force to be reckoned with. Megiddo Ark is easily his most powerful attack, dealing over 900 damage with no buffs or debuffs applied. Trisagion and Akasha Arts are a bit weaker, but Trisagion can hit weaknesses and Akasha Arts can critical as well. All of his moves are powerful even with some buffs and debuffs applied, but what makes him most dangerous is his ability to use Dekaja and Dekunda consecutively, followed by a Megiddo Ark that will one-shot Nanashi or any demon. On top of this, he can also use Luster Candy and Concentrate later in the battle, which almost guarantees a kill with his next attack. His final skill is Magaon, which is a bit of an odd choice and ends up being fairly exploitable in the fight.
    As it turns out, the key to beating Satan lies in keeping him debuffed as much as possible. This might seem difficult to do, since he uses Dekaja and Dekunda consecutively every second turn on a three-turn cycle. However, he has another interesting scripted move pattern: every second press turn of even-numbered turns, he will use Magaon if Nanashi or a demon is smirking. Satan will prioritize using Magaon over Dekunda when these scripts coincide, which means that it's possible to prevent him from using Dekunda on turns 2, 8, and 14. He will still use Dekunda on turns 5 and 11, but that's much easier to deal with than having debuffs removed every three turns. However, since Satan has no weaknesses, there are very few ways to reliably acquire smirks for this strategy. I think the best way is to use Asahi, since she can throw out Cheer every turn so long as the team is fully healed or close to it. With smart demon swapping techniques and some healing, it's not too difficult to keep Asahi on cheerleader duty to keep Satan from using Dekunda, as well as occasionally boosting Nanashi's damage output.
    There are a few other side notes for this battle. First off, I decided to go with the High Electric Pleroma accessory on Nanashi in place of Life Surge. The extra 30% HP would have enabled Nanashi to survive Megiddo Ark after Dekaja and Dekunda, but I decided that it would be better to increase Nanashi's damage by 50% instead, which ultimately decreases the battle length by about 25%. With the White Armor, Nanashi resists both Akasha Arts and Trisagion, which allows him to survive with less HP. Secondly, I could have used the Assist Gauge to my advantage more in this fight. If I had entered the battle with the Assist Gauge half full, I could have skipped Satan's scripted Dekaja-Dekunda on turn 5, so it would be even easier to keep debuffs on. Finally, the final dialogue option increases Satan's stats greatly, so it's best to have him debuffed as much as possible at that point. Ideally, that choice would also have maxed the Assist Gauge, but the battle was going smoother than expected at that point, so it wasn't enough to fill the gauge. I was just barely able to take him out with a Messiah Blast before things got too out of hand. I wanted Fafnir in at the end for the experience, otherwise it would have been simple to just use Concentrate and Ziodyne/Messiah Blast for the win.

    Nanashi took Nozuchi's life because he was the real protagonist.
    Look at that king at 10:53 with the 73 damage Mazio, Nanashi knows he can't compare, that basically won the fight.

      I mean, the stat boosts didn’t really matter on top of Concentrate. Dead is dead. And you probably wouldn’t be saying I was lucky if you saw all the times I died. Double Megiddo Ark on Nanashi, Dekaja > Dekunda > Megiddo Ark, Concentrate > Megiddo Ark, Nanashi just kept dying and there was nothing I could do about it.

    • @Bucketgetter
      @Bucketgetter  3 роки тому +7

      Thanks. Currently I have no projects planned for the near future; I've invested too much time into this stuff for a while. I have one other solid playthrough of a non-SMT JRPG that I know I could do, but that's not going to happen for some time if I choose to do it. Any other games would probably require a good deal of planning, and I don't feel like doing that now. So I'm basically just waiting for SMT V like everyone else.
