Days after a devastating tear in the mainsail rendered their chances of a competitive performance in Leg 3 of The Ocean Race, the team finally has a weather window to start the huge task of attempting a repair.
Short on spare material and adhesive for the fix, it will take a ‘MacGyver’ effort to get the boat back racing …

A family that sews together stays together! #Go11thHourGo!
THAT is phenomenal - Even Orion was smiling down upon that effort.
Good timing as it looks like full hoist main to the finish.
Go get that extra point for third!
Ten hours of sail repair and then its time to go on watch... You will have a good sleep in Itajai.
Orion...I wondered...thanks
this is very romantic all the sailors handsawing the sail ... will be iconic for the race
Grace under pressure, you surely show this here in part ll. In part l, I could really feel your pain and disappointment. Wishing you best of winds so that you make it soon into port. ❤❤❤❤
Well done your grit and determination this leg has been amazing
Everyone who arrives is a winner for me….🎉
Wow - that is great you got the main repaired and hoisted ok😮👍
One of the best videos I’ve seen. And I have watched every video of the race. These guy grit is tremendous! Go Mālama!!!

All the best for you. Safe arrive in Itajai 👍🤙
Jez you guys had a really tough leg. Amazing job staying positive and constantly fixing all the issues that came up. Ye should be so incredibly proud of a hard earned point 💪💪👏👏👏
Your resilience is amazing.
Impressive problem solving. Inside views of the race like this are fascinating.
thanks, wow, effort, quiet power and determination.
Awesome, great determination. So well done.
Incredible skills, teamwork and leadership. I'm sure Jack could fix anything. You guys rock. I loved to see my favorite constellation (Orion), above you when you finally hoisted the main. Less than 100nm to go at the time of posting. Nearly time to hand over to the shore team and get some well earned rest and recuperation. Looking forward to seeing you all step safely ashore on Wednesday. Bravo! Deep Respect. Stay Safe.
Amazing job! Well done! I hope it holds till Itajaí. Fair winds!
Good job 😊👍👍
You all are complete badasses. What an awesome effort. Go go go!!!
Thanks so much!
Amazing…need we say more about what you overcame. Wonderful focus, determination, and teamwork…and long hours.
Thanks, Rick.
just as the crew said. this was apollo 13 stuff. well done such grit and determination
So disappointing but so inspiring. Go team ,luv you Jack
Bravo. Beautiful and inspiring.
UNBELIEVEABLE! I have torn sails on distance races and made small repairs....that...that was something else!
Thanks, Chris!
@@11thhourracingteam83 Hoping to make it out to Newport to see these beasts up close and personal!
Please get a "palm" or two for the needles. We didn't have a sewing machine either, 36 hours sewing both luff tapes and a center panel on a 67ft Spinnaker mid atlantic (the only one we had left - we confetti'd the light and medium) was brutal. Still think about it 21 years later.
good job guys
Il me semble aue Justine regrette sa decision d”être embarquée sur ce bateau
Yup. Saw Orion’s Belt. Was that the southern cross behind them. Nice
Good grief! I cannot believe all the shit you've had to deal with. A blown out main sail? And that's only the start. I've always felt that the Imocas were too stiff, too light, too computer controlled to do this race. The sailors need to not only be sailors, but computer engineers, psychologists, comedians, civil engineers, seamstresses, news anchors, chemical engineers, meteorologists, daredevils, climbers, doctors, surgeons, lifeguards, world-class swimmers and athletes, able to sleep in the worst conditions possible, ditto for eating and shitting, etc...
I, of course, could never to this, nor would I want to. These are the most incredible people I've ever seen, and I know some incredible people. Why would you want to put yourself through this? Jesus.
Can 11th Hour replace the whole Main Sail in Brazil or do they have to repair the old one ?
We have a new mainsail but are also repairing the old one, dave.
Lol. Did you have to get permission to sacrifice the bag for sail repair?
Find a better sailmaker! No one else ripping mains
