I remember taking the greyhound bus a couple times when I went to Humboldt State and I never felt safe as a young woman. I recall a man on board telling another passenger that he just got out of San Quentin. Anyways, On a positive note your video's are very captivating and informative thanks for bringing us all along on your adventures!
This is so true. I've had a similar experience. Decent service between Portland and Eugene, but terrible service in smaller Oregon cities: bought an $80 GH ticket from Medford, OR to Sacramento. Waited for 3 hours... no show. Contacted hotline ... they had no ETA/internet information. Found out later the bus showed up 10 hours later.
Wow. That’s super lame & incompetent! I’m sorry you had that hassle but glad that the hitching thing worked out. On another note, No Cal is looking beautiful! I’m headed to Sacramento in just over a week to hang out with my sister for the weekend. We’re going to go to Calaveras Big Trees to check out some big trees. 😄 I’m super stoked to go; I haven’t been up that way in over two decades. Peace! 👍🏼✌🏼
It is a very good aspect in life to feel as a traveler, as a foreigner actually, in your homeland. It brings to my mind the saying of the anarchists here. "Our home is the world"
Nobody seems to care anymore especially in the western world. Their loss! Greyhound and the commuters whizzing past you. They had a chance to transport one of the most considerate/kindest persons that is walking among us and they blew it!!! Next time you get yourself in a jam reach out to your subscribers and one of us would be more than willing to help.
I road in/on a Greyhound once, for a long distance trip to Daytona Beach,Fl,and during the trip to my destination, I let an older lady take my seat, while I stood up,the Bus was overloaded beyond the seat capacity, with other people standing up as well, wasn't to pleasant ,but it worked out
Had my fare share of delays with Megabus. One time I was using Megabus to go from St Louis to Chicago. Bus was 2 1/2 late and missed the concert I was going to. Megabus is late plenty of times.
Oh wow, customer service has taken a hit with them too. It's been four years for me since I used them. I did a weekend trip St. Louis to Chicago and back in 2006 for only $2 on time and everything. I then used it in 2014 San Francisco to LA and on to Las Vegas a few days later which were all on time at decent prices. I'm noticing everything except that which caters to the rich is significantly going down the drain in this country. It's just changing for the worst in all aspects except milk is super cheap and plentiful more than it's ever been in history.
In China, bus tickets are never oversold and hitchhiking is not a part of our culture since there are many buses, trains, planes, taxies, and shared bicycles readily available between towns.
This past March was my 1st experience with Greyhound. Used them for a trip from Hartford CT> Boston for a flight to India (1st time to India) Bus was 1.5 hours late and watched them kick people off as well, I was one of the fortunate but also on a tight schedule to make this flight. Usually used Peterpan buslines without any issues, so after hearing all of these comments and watching your VLOG, I wont take anymore chances with Greyhound. Greyhound Buslines... you are officially fired.
Same happens here in Germany very often with the Deutsche Bahn (German Railways). They are sometimes such idiots. Only problem with them is: When your train is cancelled and you miss your flight, you will not get a refound for the flight. You wont be booked on to another flight if you fly low cost carriers.
Good rant. It's good there are still a few nice patriotic fellow Americans out there in the cold hard world we know that didn't used to be so non-customer oriented as it's becoming. I could see your driver is a really nice man.
Your in my home state,,, i watch all your video's,,,,, thanks for all your advice,,,, i may never visit the places you have gone,,, so its great that i get to go with you.....thanks
I don't know about Greyhound specifically but many companies still use antiquated 1990's era IT systems because they never saw fit, or had the money, to install modern fully integrated management systems. You'll typically see this in bloated, debt ridden companies such as "cable TV" and possibly Greyhound.
Greyhound is hit and miss. You have to roll the Greyhound dice and hope it lands in your favour. Sorry to hear you were a casualty of Greyhound cancellation.
Many years ago, we had a bad experience with Greyhound. The bus was cancelled -- no reason given. I immediately asked for a refund on my credit card. The ticket agent said that it would take weeks to get a refund. I said that it would not because I will dispute this charge and have it taken immediately off my bill. My cc company took care of me and I never had to do anymore. Needless to say, we have never used Greyhound after that experience. Like I said, this was many years ago and it appears that they still do not care about their customers.
Zaxaris Petixos I agree. I think that Gabriel is hoping for better service but it's not going to happen. Dependable national bus service died decades ago.
My son just spent the entire night at the Greyhound bus stop in Memphis. His bus for Chicago was supposed to leave at 11:30 last night. No bus, by 7 the next morning still no bus! How can they justify not making a run from Memphis to Chicago? Furthermore, if they had been up front about when he got there between 9 & 10 p.m., he could have got on Amtrak which left at 10:40 last night. He's trying to get to a new job.
No, hitchhiking is free and he clearly didn't need anything. While I was hitchhiking I started to consider waving a $20 bill and offering to pay someone who picked me up, but didn't end up doing that. He appreciated the company and $20 wasn't going to make any difference in his life. Pay it forward.
No way, really?? That is freaking awesome. As you might know I used them a lot when I was in Europe. I'm guessing they will have limited routes on the east coast of the US to start out and then maybe expand from there. I guess we'll see. I'll definitely keep my eyes open for them.
Yeah, they announced a few months ago they were finalizing a few routes... Hopefully Greyhound will step up their game or let Flixbus take over... I just took a 18 hour Flixbus ride from Barcelona to Rome... Hopping on another one from Rome to Stuttgart, Germany in a few days... Will have been on the road for 2 months when I fly back to Indiana on the 11th... It's been a trip man,, Thanks for all the inspiration and tips. Love watching your videos.
Yes greyhound and Jefferson lines is like a Ghetto on wheels, and I traveled with Trailways bus way back when. I have been traveling for 40 years and am now in Madagascar and I take into account human error , such as I have to take a flight to Kenya in 14 days so I will budget my time to fly within Madagascar to the city center to get my flight three days early because Planes here are the taxi bush of the skies. Besides I am a traveler so where do I really have to be???? By the way for the last couple of years Greyhound has had an app that you can connect with your smart phone to show you where the bus is and the arrival time and if it is late or canceled. You always have to follow the your paperwork or the ticket in this case.
Oh Boy, one of a crazy GreyHound story😅 we had to drive through the ghetto of los Angeles to the GreyHound station but we didnt know before 😖 this was so creepy
Reminds me of a cab in DC years ago....dropped me off at the bus station. It appears to be closed....no.... it moved a mile down the road. I turn around....the cab is gone. Did that cab driver really not know the bus station had moved? I didn't know because I was from out of town. I've been on 2-hour bus rides that were standing room only. The bus employees get paid if there's a bus or not.
😀I know the feeling. I left a comment about this exact thing on one of your previous videos. When I had mentioned to someone why I LOVE traveling anywhere out of the usa. The total lack of transportation options is completely unacceptable for a country this big. I was stranded in Kansas City for close to 24 hours with Greyhound. No driver and all other buses full. Then stranded again up in Chicago with a final destination in Arizona. Another thing, Greyhound has a contract with numerous states to transport convicted felons when they are released on parole. So, many passengers are coming straight from the penitentiary/jail. I sat beside one once. It was a female, and she had some serious mental issues I was subjected to until she got off. You we're better off hitchhiking🚶🚶🚶 Serious!
America is tough to impossible without your own car. I live in Utah and don't get to see my own state or enjoy anything out of not having a car nor opportunity to earn the extra cash for one so I just stay put now going on four years. I used to travel and teach English overseas. It was foolish to come back to the states for the housing I can barely afford is just apartments full of drama neighbors with mental and drug issues where as it's expensive and very limited to get into a decent place. RV living is always looking more attractive since you have a place and wheels, but you have to buy it and then it's for retirees with a pension.
Scott Bixler Actually, I used to RV full time. The good thing is that the BLM (Bureau of Land Management) has a good deal in several places in the southwest part of the country and some other places too, such as $180 total for 6 months. The Long Term Visitor Areas......like Imperial Dam (California/Arizona) border or even in Quartzite, AZ. People have vans, trailers and motorhomes old and new. They supply dump stations and potable water. Just something you might want to look into. It's definitely interesting for sure. Here's a link I found that somebody blogged about.... axleaddict.com/rvs/RV-Snowbirds-BLM-Camping-Near-Yuma
One set of my grandparents used to always go to the southwest every Winter in their huge RV and then lived in a trailer in Illinois during the Summers. I got to go camping and fishing with them one Summer which was cool. Yes, it's cheap living with fresh air and fishing and such once you were to own one and have some money on the side for food, fuel, and everyday kind of things. My grandparents were even able to get mail down there and paid next nothing for lot rent and services. This was back in the 70's and 80's when it was even doable to buy a house or perhaps four of them as rental income for they were only $8,000 and up. I'd guess they were doing all this on about $100 a month back then 30 to 40 years ago, but had much more to play with where it used to be so easy for pretty much everyone.
Scott Bixler The problem is that English teaching is was not what it once was in the wealthier Asian nations. But still , if you are willing are willing to put up with living in China, you can do okay. Also they want younger people and place more demand on them. Be very careful about RV living, it has it's own set of even worse problems than apartments. It is very tough. many YT vids on that subject. Even home ownership often turns into a nightmare. At least with apartments you can simply leave.
Gabriel- why am I not surprised by your experiences with Greyhound? Type "who owns Greyhound buses" into Google for a surprise. We suffer the same sort of thing from this lot in the UK.
It definitely stressed me at the time because I was looking at missing my flight and possibly having my travel plans screwed up, to the extent of spending the next couple days and extra money trying to get to where I was going. Luckily it all worked out.
Hi Gabriel. Have you ever considered wild mushroom picking ,for all that walking...I use to pick at least 4 different species in Mendocino.Right now it's burn Morels or Naturals. It's sometimes a job, a hobby or a passion..it really gets you out and about when your serious minded..what do think?
I don't know mushrooms and (as I'm sure you're aware) you've got to know your stuff with those. I'd be happy to take a class in it sometime, but I'm not about to start picking mushrooms randomly and popping them in my mouth. So no, I don't pick mushrooms while walking.
Hi Gabriel you pick the species that the buyers want to buy, like the Japanese Matsutake grows around Uriah in the fall or the last years burns grow the Morel that France buys by the ton dried..I'm just saying your in good shape to be a picker and do okay money for it.
Your right there,,,I use to do my best to avoid that with Respect, when I use to pick the Trinity Triangle,a real good pocket book to buy for wild mushroom harvest is David Arora's (All that Rain Promises, and More ) this is the best to learn. The stories are from around the whole world.I'm sure you would like the book.okay thanks and good luck I love your videos
Got really lucky. Gave me a flight the next day for free. All I had to do was prove that the train was late. Took screenshots of all the updates Amtrak was giving.
Gabriel Traveler I would just call and ask for a refund. If you paid cash ask for a check mailed to you and if credit/debit refund to card. If they refuse, dispute it with your card.
It depends I have done a bit of both. Between large cities airfare is cheaper. If you are going from a small city to another small city, bus will be cheaper. This is because small cities need to fly to a large city, to then go to another large city before again flying to the small city. Also, hitchhiking in usa is so hard. People are awful here. Paranoid and terrible.
Gabriel do u have future plan to explore Russia? Why u stay away from exploring Russia n China?History says old travellers explored both the countries. We want to see these countries through ur vlog.
Hello everyone, same thing with flights. They know hours in advance but they say nothing till the very end. No respect for the passenger. Just take our money and then tell us to handle it, sad customer service today.
Actually with flights they will often let you know. Depends on the situation but if they know in advance then you will get an email or text message notifying you of a change of departure time or cancellation. I've gotten them before.
There's just next to no customer service and if there isn't an employee specifically assigned to call, text, and email to help you make new arrangements, then no one is empowered to take the initiative nor cares. It's all about companies managing on the cheap to send all the money profit upward out of the usual modern autocratic corporate greed based systems.
uh.. 😶buses do break down from time to time,, they encounter bad weather conditions in some states,, traffic accidents and anything else that can delay the buses without their control...calm down, get a grip.....I like greyhound, they take their time and make sure everyone is safe...the only thing that needs improvements are some of the terminals just aren't in convenient locations,, some are too small with bathrooms that don't work,,some don't have restaurants,,,the inconsistencies in how they line up people.....some are just disorganized in how its done ....some terminals have gates and are labeled properly and buses are announced,, one place was so small it didn't have gates at all and their P.A system wasn't working either which is how I missed my bus.....some buses do need repaired.....but other than that, its decent
All true. Except not having a driver for a bus is pretty inexcusable. They should be prepared with backup drivers in case one gets sick or doesn't show up. And they should also have a system in place to inform their passengers of a situation such as this in which the bus isn't going to show up at all. That's a matter of incompetence and neglect on their part. It's 2018, they had my email address because I bought the ticket online. They need to let their passengers know in advance of a cancelled bus so that people can start making other arrangements ahead of time, instead of scrambling at the last minute when the bus doesn't show up. That's what's unacceptable here and something they need to change. Hopefully someone from Greyhound will see this video and they will consider implementing a way to contact their passengers with updated info about the buses.
I haven't yet, now I get to deal with that. It's probably going to be a pain in the butt. There's no Greyhound office in Ukiah where I am now, so I'll have to find an office elsewhere or mail it or whatever. Not excited about having to deal with the bureaucracy involved in getting a refund.
Damn, that sucks. I also had my flight cancelled when I was trying to fly from Muscat, Oman to Amman, Jordan. Luckily I was able to find another flight on a different airline that same day for the same price and got to my destination only a few hours late. That was dang lucky. Also managed to get a refund on the original flight. Could have been worse.
Because that would have been around ten hours of driving for him, he had work to do and his son was coming home from school in the afternoon. Even if he had the day off I wouldn't have expected that. That's a lot of driving and would have cost a lot in gas.
I was aiming more towards having public transit of any type and road infrastructure in general. Go on though, tell us about three or four times in a video.
They have roads and buses and infrastructure in developing countries. They even have laptops and cell phones. Maybe you haven't traveled. There are first world problems, but being stranded in a remote area isn't exactly one of them.
Lol. DUDE. The title does not say "Worst experience of my life, I almost died, help me". Chillax. You're being silly. Sometimes I tell travel stories. This is one of them. You seem to be stuck on making a point that is rather irrelevant to this video.
i hope they do, So What Are Your Plans Ahead After Taking A Break Which I Think You Should Like (Tip) Doing Russia, Connected Central Asia Like Uzbekistan Etc B4 Winter Sets In ... Take Care Man Loved Your Videos Also It Gives Me Immense Pleasure To See You Getting Huge Hits :)
WTF I thought you were a traveler. Buses in Hippy Oregon?!? Neal Cassady is not impressed! :) No offense but didn't watch video because who cares really!
Greyhound needs to recognize that you are a national treasure, and leaving you stranded is not okay!
I remember taking the greyhound bus a couple times when I went to Humboldt State and I never felt safe as a young woman. I recall a man on board telling another passenger that he just got out of San Quentin. Anyways, On a positive note your video's are very captivating and informative thanks for bringing us all along on your adventures!
thank you to that kind person to help you out in that hectic situation ...stay blessed ...live and peace
It’s too bad that you had to go through that.
Thanks for posting.
What a nice old guy that gave you that lift, Greyhound should be ashamed -if it was an old lady in that situation what the hell?
Peace! 👍🏼✌🏼
Sweeeeeeet.
It is a very good aspect in life to feel as a traveler, as a foreigner actually, in your homeland. It brings to my mind the saying of the anarchists here. "Our home is the world"
Nikolas Kotis Very nice words !
Thank you!
Nobody seems to care anymore especially in the western world. Their loss! Greyhound and the commuters whizzing past you. Gabe you should show your audience more of California’s natural beauty. People normally don’t think of that part of Cali.
Especially Point Reyes and Mill Valley region.
I have tons of videos from California:
ua-cam.com/users/gabejedmosearch?query=California
And there will certainly be more.
They have competition now. Megabus!

I never get tired of looking at the foothills around Ukiah. Looks like a good place to eventually settle down....haha!
We have had a few Greyhound mishaps we use Megabus when it's going our way.
Had my fare share of delays with Megabus. One time I was using Megabus to go from St Louis to Chicago. Bus was 2 1/2 late and missed the concert I was going to. Megabus is late plenty of times.

Great. You're in California or Oregon?
When you hitchhiked, did you use your thumb or a destination sign? The little handwritten sign makes all the difference.
Great rant video.
Glad it all worked out, Gabe. It would be great to see a vlog where you are in the Redwoods...just a thought.🦋
Here's one: ua-cam.com/video/XUBIuN0CVHY/v-deo.html
Gabe, you've influenced me to try hitchhiking, which I did in Chile. Thanks.
Love the stories.
All good points Gabriel. Hopefully someone from Greyhound management will see this.

Lol. Really.

Sweet. Yeah hopefully some competition will force Greyhound to step up their game.
Sounds like the United Airlines seating situation. Did Greyhound send the police to force passengers off the bus?
Agreed. Used Greyhound once. Never again.

No, hitchhiking is free, so no one ever expects you to pay them when they pick you up.
Gabriel Traveler Cool. I always wonder the ettiqute.
fantastic story. the airlines text and email with updates or changes so why can't greyhound?
I hear you! I rarely, if ever use public transportation in this country because it is so unreliable, unlike England and Europe.
Greyhound: Transport provider of last resort. Only U-Haul has more convicts as employees (and passengers).
You're so close to Mexico! Stop by my place in mazatlan!
Reminds me of a cab in DC years ago....dropped me off at the bus station. It appears to be closed....no.... it moved a mile down the road. I turn around....the cab is gone. Gabriel, btw did you get a new phone?
Yes. Sort of, anyway. A friend gave me an old one that she didn't need and it's working out for now.
File a complaint with the highway administration with suggested corrections
Greyhound has no competition. So they can do what they want.
Gabriel- why am I not surprised by your experiences with Greyhound? Type "who owns Greyhound buses" into Google for a surprise. We suffer the same sort of thing from this lot in the UK.

Our public transportation suck when we compare to other countries.
I took Greyhound and never had that problem.
You like California and Greece. Catalina island seem to reunite some of the best of both..... While you,re not that far away..,..
Yeah and I've never been there. I guess because it's down south and I don't go to southern California very often.
Did you check your junk email? Sometimes I get my flight updates going to junk email.
Yep, I didn't get anything from them. I do receive email about flights but didn't get a message of any sort from Greyhound.
There are more lucrative crops to harvest in Mendocino now days....lol
Your right there,,,I use to do my best to avoid that with Respect, when I use to pick the Trinity Triangle,a real good pocket book to buy for wild mushroom harvest is David Arora's (All that Rain Promises, and More ) this is the best to learn. The stories are from around the whole world.I'm sure you would like the book.okay thanks and good luck I love your videos
In 2 weeks I'm going from Chicago to st louis on Amtrak train is it good?
Yeah taking the Amtrak can be pretty fun, here's a video about it:
ua-cam.com/video/8n2IsEoDY_o/v-deo.html
Gabriel Traveler Thanks
Took a train to Chicago once from St Louis. Flying to Greece and it came 5 hours late. Missed my flight.
Dang, that really sucks. Did you still manage to get to Greece?
Got really lucky. Gave me a flight the next day for free. All I had to do was prove that the train was late. Took screenshots of all the updates Amtrak was giving.
Greyhound bus is the worst experience ive ever had in my life.
"Ah. Buddha provide!" Mr. Miagi
Greyhound sucked some 30 years ago and not a surprise they suck today. Much rather walk than take Greyhound
Come to coorg
Greyhound, provide a side hustle gig for a driver in case these things happen. In a gig economy, this kind of thing can be fixed.
Greyhound needs to get their act together, or their customers will find alternatives.
So you had a little adventure.
YES. As always.
Gabriel Traveler i love that
Ohhh waooooo beautiful place
Did they give you a refund? I wouldnt be surprised if they kept your money.
I haven't figured out how to get it yet, and there's no Greyhound office in Ukiah. So it might be a process, which is a real pain.
Gabriel Traveler
I would just call and ask for a refund. If you paid cash ask for a check mailed to you and if credit/debit refund to card. If they refuse, dispute it with your card.
Services sucks in many fields. The world is not going as well as it should.
True! Hopefully the world gets fixed. But not likely.
I've heard train/bus travel more costly than air travel in US. How true is this
It all depends. For example my flight from Portland to San Francisco was $180 and I could have taken the bus for less, but that's a long bus ride.
* Plz visit India again and this time in the east that mean Bengal. Kolkata. Plz search it about kolkata on Google u will get the info*
Damn I’m taking a 3hr bus ride with greyhound haha I’m kinda scared Lol I don’t want no drama 😩😩😩
Sure everything will work out okay, keep your fingers crossed.
that beer looks so good here in hot alcohol.free Kuwait
Sounds like Greyhound has a serious case of DGAF Syndrome.
Hopefully someone from Greyhound will see this video and they will consider implementing a way to contact their passengers with updated info about the buses.
faced very terrible situation .... very poor administration of greyhounds.... sue them .....
Sounds like they double book like airlines...shame on them:(
Agreed Greyhound is Wack!!
So did you get your money back at least for that bus that wasnt coming?
I haven't yet, now I get to deal with that. It's probably going to be a pain in the butt. There's no Greyhound office in Ukiah where I am now, so I'll have to find an office elsewhere or mail it or whatever. Not excited about having to deal with the bureaucracy involved in getting a refund.
I had a flight cancelled with no other flight option. It wrecked four days of travel plans. Not fun.
I was not so lucky. To this day I've yet to see the South Island of New Zealand because Air New Zealand arbitrarily cancelled my flight.
No email, so i'm assuming you has to contact them for a refund. That's besides the non replacement of a driver, which is standard practice. JOKE !
Maybe it's time for you to get a real job. Greyhound might be the best place to make the biggest positive change.
#boycottgreyhound for treatying our boy like dat
Why didn't your brother take you to the airport
Because that would have been around ten hours of driving for him, he had work to do and his son was coming home from school in the afternoon. Even if he had the day off I wouldn't have expected that. That's a lot of driving and would have cost a lot in gas.
Gabriel Traveler thanks Gabe for replying ,are you visiting uk soon .
Greyhound is lousy.
1st World Problems!
....because hitchhiking 250 miles is only for the privileged few.
Were you in fear of starvation, dehydration, and hypothermia? How about basic services to treat these conditions?
Lol. DUDE. The title does not say "Worst experience of my life, I almost died, help me". Chillax. You're being silly. Sometimes I tell travel stories. This is one of them. You seem to be stuck on making a point that is rather irrelevant to this video.
I totally agree most companies need to improve their customer service. What if any compensation did you give that guy who gave you the ride?
greyhound feedback, why dont u send this video to them cause you were in a chaotic situation & the same gets noticed & corrected
Greyhound actually follows me on twitter. So they'll probably see the video.
i hope they do, So What Are Your Plans Ahead After Taking A Break Which I Think You Should Like (Tip) Doing Russia, Connected Central Asia Like Uzbekistan Etc B4 Winter Sets In ... Take Care Man Loved Your Videos Also It Gives Me Immense Pleasure To See You Getting Huge Hits :)
Thanks a lot. I'm not sure of my future travel plans yet, thinking about it.
you talk to much, slow down my friend
WTF I thought you were a traveler. Buses in Hippy Oregon?!? Neal Cassady is not impressed! :) No offense but didn't watch video because who cares really!
I have no idea what you're trying to say.
Gabriel Traveler Lol
