Been Blue for a year, I definitely notice people went harder during rolling once I got the blue. This forced me to really up my mind set and focus on knowing the technique rather than muscling through stuff. I’m still working on this theory 😀
That's a huge point tho, when the belt color changes the gloves are off and everyone wants to see what you are made of. I usually try and be nice to the white belts, but once that bad boy changes color all bets are off. Not to mention all the white belts want to take your head off so they can say they tapped a blue belt out.
@@kylefee4822 Congrats! Purple belts at my gym still feel like wizards to me 😅 But I see myself improving and I'm plenty motivated, so I'll get there 👍
After a few months of training, I finally realized its about having fun along with learning. So now I train bjj & just started wrestling with 2 diff coaches that are absolutely passionate at what they do; with my natural insatiable curiosity , I my learning curve has accelerated immensely.
Met a fella once who legitimately took 6 years to get his blue belt. He was heaps inconsistent and mainly done the odd morning class. Eventually he got it, then there’s guys who train 4 days a week and get it in 12 months.
Thank you, I do in fact work on that intentionally. It makes my ego feel good to know my efforts are somewhat noticeable. Also I appreciate you taking the time to comment. When I first started making videos it felt like I was putting them out into the void with no response. It feels like progress to see some people taking the time to comment under my vids.
Hey Chris - Another great video! I wanted to let you know that Gareth is coming back. I'm not sure what re-lit the fire in him, but he wants to get back on the mat. Also, I still want to hear your Bobby Fischer rant, I'd like to hear your perspective on Alan Turing too.
I think I can do those things, also I am glad to hear about Gareth coming back. I always love it when people are excited to get back into jiujitsu. I hope he gets what he is looking for out of coming back into training 💪
I’m training Advanced gi, and fundamentals 2 days a week, plus No gi fundamental and hitting the open mat on Saturdays. Do you think that “6 sessions” is noticed, or just the separate 3 days?
At that point, you're pushing breaking down your body and catching skin infections for breaking down your immune system. I would recommend implementing a serious recovery work, that's almost full time training.
I always say 3 days is standard for constant progress. Four to five is advanced, 6. You have to be really careful. Cannot over train but it can be done depending on intensity and skill level.
Since belt requirements are super subjective most places, it can feel frustrating trying to achieve something without knowing how to get what you dont really know what is... And if you dont jibe with your instructor you better up your patience-game 😉
Also... You cant buy a blue from gracie university... There are very strict and explicit (fx an actual curriculum) requirements at GU than in many other clubs.
I can’t train more than 3 times a week, smaller school. I do double sessions two times a week though, not sure that counts as more than 3 times lol. I do an hour gi, an hour no gi.
@@ChristopherCarpenter sweet! I do 5 sessions a week at the moment. I have a comp in July. Two stripe white belt, 8 months in. Any good tips for your first comp? oss
Why do people want to speed up the process or changing belt colors? It only serves to tie your Gi. What really makes you worthy of a rank is mat time, effort, sacrifices, understanding the concepts of the fight, killing your ego. It doesn't matter how long it takes to get a promotion, as long as you're showing up consistently and enjoying the learning process.
To say that belts mean nothing is complete nonsense. Name a brown or black belt who isn't substantially better and more skilled than theybwere when they were a white or blue belt. When I see a white belt, and a black belt, I can safely assume 99.9% of the time that the black belt is Far more skilled and better at bjj than the white belt. If the belt meant nothing other than to hold your gi pants up then there wouldn't be different color belts. You belt may not be the be all end all, but it absolutely does tell and represent something real. To suggest otherwise is silly nonsense. Name a black belt who isn't better and more skilled and high-level than they were when they were a white or blue belt.
Yes, the Gracie barra franchise is notorious for doing just that, however I’m sure there are some more gyms that participate in this practice. The justification for it would be that they give you a promotion of some sort at an event outside of regular class hours like a testing or seminar type event that may be a few hours long or what not. they often say that say it’s outside of regular a class they can justify the cost as it is something not included in your membership, but in reality it’s a big racket.

Thanks for the video. I'm a first stripe white belt. What you said makes total sense.

Thanks for the video. I’m a one stripe white belt. I Try to come 3 times a week but one third I am so dead. I would love to train everyday

Now that I'm close to blue belt, I sort of don't want it for a while like a couple more years 🤷
