    As an ex Jaguar development engineer I am interested to see that whilst the Indian branch of the Tata Group can produce 3 new models this year, JLR's abysmal record is just one - the large Jaguar I Pace which is now 4 years old. Not surprising that JLR CEO has been fired! These new EVs will help fill the gap for B & C segment cars at the same price or less than their ICE equivalents that for the majority of sales in the UK & Europe. Cant wait to try one!

    • @DC.409
      @DC.409 Рік тому

      Indeed JLR has quietly built its own battery manufacturing business, the battery universal platform is now ready. Undoubtedly the ultimate question is do they intend to import the Indian manufactured cars with a Jaguar badge for the under £30,000 market. It has been done before and presently there are only three cars, in that market, the leaf, mini and MG4 and they are all selling well.

    I’m 59 years old. Retired & drive very little. I would LOVE an expensive, small, go around town car. I keep thinking about the Chevy Bolt, but keep hesitating because it really should be no more than $22,000. Not $32,000 plus.

    The Canadian and American car markets desperately need more choices in EV's especially in the lower price brackets. The demand in Canada alone has led to a minimum of 18 months - 2yr waits f you are lucky to get an allocation. That's with an average EV price of $65,000 CAD. All EV's are sold out unless you're willing to pay absurd markups.

    I’m looking forward to all these cheaper models as there just isn’t enough secondhand EV’s yet. Catering to a less wealthy segment of the population but also a much bigger segment of the population. Come on Tesla get the model 2 coming off the production line 👍🏻

      Only a question of time everywhere.
      The first gen EVs had a big dip in depreciation because the batteries degraded too quickly.
      I believe the market needs at least one more generation of second hand EVs to correct itself. so wait 3-5 years and get one of the cars that are sold now.
      My plan is to buy a used tesla model 3 with CATL's LFP batteries when they are 5 years old.

    Tata was a household name growing up in India, they have become a global brand in last two decades.
    I would buy these cheap Tata EVs at $10K in US, even $15-20k. Due to their low price, insuring them would be much cheaper in big cities like NYC.
    I dont need an advanced expensive Tesla vehicle just like i dont need a $1400 iPhone. I mostly drive less than 100miles a week.
    Indian cars have suspensions built to handle rough battered roads. These EVs may last forever and may be preferred for delivery services which drive less than 150miles per day.

    The nexon is a cool looking design. Tata has hit the nail on the head and I reckon, because of the price, they would
    probably sell very well around the world. Also a worthy note. India has got some of the best tech heads in the
    world. If the build quality and reliability was there, I would definitely consider the nexon.

    Yes the Tiago or the Wuling Macron is exactly what I want - ideal for a couple commuting in an Australian city. Problem is people in Australia are duped into getting huge vehicles for prestige and perceive 'safety' when in fact they are only safe for the driver and they kill more other road users.
    Small carbon footprint of these small battery EV commuters - less than 1/10th that of a Landcruiser - will become a major reason for buying them. But licensing fees for IC vehicles need to be increased (i.e. by up to $2000) to reflect their carbon and crash mortality cost and incentivize people to buy small EV's.

    We need this in the U.S. so bad. It's difficult being a regular person here because it seems everything is marked up so much. Tesla's cost more than anywhere else on earth and dealerships are marking up all other models of evs so much it makes them unaffordable. I'm excited for a Tesla model 2, but I'm afraid of it costing 40-45k here and selling for 25k in China. Sorry for the rant, I'm just having a hard time these days with inflation/prices and can't afford a car for my family.

    The car Market in India is around 2.5 Million per annum. The biggest Car Manufacture in India is Maruti- Suzuki. They have a 50% Market share. Hyundai & Tata comes next, each with a 15% - 18% share. Tata Nexon was the first EV. Then came Tata Tigor ( Sedan ).Due to the high petrol price, people want $10000 electric cars here. Here comes Tata Tiago.( India is the biggest market for electric scooters. Electric scooter sales are catching up. You should make video on this )
    The build quality of these cars is amazing as Tata owns steel and other metal manufacturing plants. The build quality is what revamped Tata's growth in the last 5 years. Before the acquisition of Landrover & Jaguar, Tata was not reliable. Tata also owns Software company. so it's easy for them to ship software. The charging infrastructure is pathetic, otherwise, India will sell lots of EVS.

    @electricviking,
    BYD's Air EV went on sale recently in India badged as the MG Comet EV.
    But there are the following reasons why I personally would choose the Tiago over the Comet:
    1. Not so fit people, elders especially, can easily use the backseat, since it's a 5-door.
    2. 3 people can fit into the backseat (with a squeeze). The Comet can fit only 2.
    3. Enough bootspace for a run to the grocery store, for lighter airport runs, or a weekend trip.
    4. Tiago has better range and supports fast charging (Comet doesn't), so can drive farther and with shorter breaks.
    5. The Tiago has a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating, whereas I haven't heard of the Comet being tested yet.
    6. Tata has a more widespread service network in India.
    7. The Tiago "should" fetch a better resale value, than the Comet.
    Couple of things I personally find better in the Comet are: the quality of interiors, slightly better exterior styling, and ability to park in tighter spots.

    Yes, I am English in Brazil; there is a huge market potential for a 10 - 15K US$ electric car here... Brazil is 2 - 5 years behind "ROW" in many tech areas; electric cars especially. Hybrid is just starting to grab market here; pure electric is less than 1%. very little road based charging infra, lots of apartments with difficult charging infra, few car models for sale.. But 2 - 3 models in the US$15K ball park would now help jump start the market.

    The Wuling was exciting to me when it was under 10 grand but it looks like it will be more than double that in Indonesia, yeh they increased the range but the value to compromise equation is ruined. It is a tiny plastic car so they can't expect to get the same money as a bigger regular gas car for them if they want to see mass adoption. A 10,000 Ev should be possible given how much simpler they are to produce.

    250km of range with 19.2Kw battery? Thats an average consumption of about 7kw / 100km. I don't think that is possible yet unless you have some serious limitations in power and speed. I will wait to see independent reviews and tests. People say they want these cars in they're countries but they don't buy them. Look at Dacia Spring. Not selling all that much.
