      Elvis COVERED. He wasn't copying. He gave credit to the original artists. I can say that Chuck was closer to what we consider to be true RnR, but "calling out" aother artist as a copy of others is simply WRONG. Copying is using a song, saying you created it. Elvis didn't do that.

    Even before Chuck Berry, there was a black woman by the name of Sister Rosseta Thorpe played guitar and sung rock and roll, that very few people know about because of white America, I play guitar myself, so I went and researched the history of guitar players, so I could understand how it came about, now I know who's who!!!

      John Lennon would be the first to tell you. All the British bands were inspired by Chess and Sun Records. And The Isley Brothers. When Rock Around The Clock was played during the opening credits of Blackboard Jungle, the music went viral globally.
