They wouldn't have had tortillas for Margot because she wasn't invited. That's why Chef was ticked off because she wasn't part of the plan. The cheeseburger was the "out" that allowed her to escape. Even the wife looked at her and told her to go with her "shoo" motion to her. The Chef was right about them though: they could have made every attempt to escape, but they realized that they deserved their fate, even signing their bills at the end. So glad you got a kick out of it!

“Is he stupid or a psychopath” was the most reasonable response lol

Margot (Erin) is a fellow service worker, like Chef. Margot figured out that the best way to get back on Chef's good side was to provide him a good experience (like service workers do). So with her knowledge of what made him happy in his younger days, she asked for a cheeseburger, and you see what happened. Chef recognized what she was doing for him, which is why he ultimately let her go.

Oysters and lemon mignonette - Common flavors put together that have to be broken down and deconstructed, foreshadowing what happens to the guests. This is meant to be taken as Chef throwing down the gauntlet.
Amuse Bouche - More foreshadowing. Charred lace - crater. Milk snow - ash from the fire. Cucumber and melon - the guests.
The Island - Scallop on a rock - Chef presenting himself to the guests. Plants - "in the weeds"
Breadless bread plate - straight up snarking at picky customers. But you can also make a case for Lilian's plate having a broken emulsion on purpose as his way of saying SHE'S as useless as a broken emulsion.
    Memory - Self explanatory
The Mess - Pressurized vegetables - literal pun. Bone marrow - blood. Beef jus - sweat. Potato confit - tears. As a whole, it's essentially a dead body with blood pouring out. It even has a hole for the bullet.
Man's Folly - Plum vinegar exists because of Umeboshi, whey plays a vital part in making yogurt, sea kelp and lettuce are what keeps the oceans biome from wreaking havoc. But everyone either doesn't know that or forgets, because they don't taste good, aren't as attractive, or can be very difficult to work with in their natural form. It's the same with women, especially when they try to speak out against unfair treatment like what the chef describes. They get called things like "bottom feeders", like crabs.
Final scene with Margot/Erin eating the cheeseburger - She didn't care about giving him peace of mind. She just wanted to survive. And Chef acknowledged that.
Using his menu as a napkin - She never believed anything he said for one second. She is, in fact, a taker that knows her worth. And that's why she lived.

It feels like a cult to me. I was mostly really happy that they were not cooking the people 😳
I have watched it a few times and think it was awesome. 😊

Remember how the staff is living, and working. As the comment below observes, they are in a cult, living together, working together, in isolation, under extreme pressure to live up to Slowik. Remember, too, that the idea of everyone dying wasn't even his: it was Katherine Keller's.

From what we see of Tyler and what we learn, it isn't too hard to figure why someone would break up with him.
Margo gives some background in her scene with Chef, in his office. You don't really need a lot of background information for her (or really anyone); I think we can pick up a lot from her body language, way of speaking, her attitude toward her work as she describes it to Chef. Do we really need much more?

This was basically a suicide cult and the reason behind it is because when he was happy cooking burgers in the beginning of his career he was cooking for people who weren't wealthy and they appreciated his cooking. When he put in all the hard work cooking exquisite dishes for rich people they constantly criticized everything he made like broken emulsion the lady complained about. He was now cooking for people who never appreciated how fortunate they were to be able to afford such a unique dining experience and they couldn't even remember one dish they had eaten there before. These were rich entitled people who had no appreciation or respect. Poor people eating cheeseburgers in a Dinah appreciated a great burger and would remember what they enjoyed about the food. The reason there wasn't much back story on Anya Taylor-Joy's character is there didn't need to be she was an escort hired at the last minute and she wasn't supposed to be included on the list, that was all there was to be told about her character other than she had been hired before by the old guy who was cheating on his wife.

I took this movie as an indictment of anyone who tries to assume control over someone else's art, critique things from too objective a vantage point, artists who betray their art just for money, consume just to consume without thinking.
