Thanks for the great video. My boot on tne 2013 vw polo would not open. I fo.,owed your video and got the cover off. I checked all the wiring and pushed a couple of connectors until they were tight. That did the trick. Everything great now. Thanks again pal

It worked, then it made me think...then I lubed it with WD-40. Working!

Good timing on the video. Our 2010 Polo just developed this issue and I spent about an hour tearing off bits of interior trim and fiddling with the lock this morning. The tailgate closes all the way but the lock won't engage completely so the tailgate still moves a bit (won't open but shakes like crazy when going over bumps). I also checked the striker pin and there's no evidence of any movement that might cause it to be out of reach of the lock. Am I correct in assuming that this is caused by a faulty/worn out lock?

Hi, I have the same problem with my VW Polo GTI 2011. Do they have all the same locks with the Golf GTI? Because there's a pick a parts junk yard here in New Zealand. I am planning to do it myself. Thank you for this video by the way.
id say they are very similar but don't think a golf one will fit im afraid mate 👍
My lock is still working fine but the lever to open doesn't engage. I can open the boot from inside. A friend told me it's the actuator in the lever that is the problem.

Any solution if the bolts on the latch are too tight and can’t remove them? Do you know what the specific bit is?
They are called triple hex bits mate .. I’ve never had any that are too tight to come undone to be honest mate

What if the tailgate is completely locked, I can not open it, even presing the 'white hook', do you have any advice for this?

Our 2013 Polo just started doing this in New Zealand.
Running a bolt through the lock hatch, will activate the arm lock downwards but it bounces back straight away and can’t stay locked.
Sounds like the same issue? Is there anything else I should check before replacing the lock? (Ie connector, cables etc)
Hi , yea it sounds like the exact same issue , I would just disconnect the electrical connect then try the bolt again and if it still does the same it’s definetly the lock at fault 👍
My polo 2014 tsi 1,2 unlocks tailgate after 30 seconds.
It is locked when I use my key, but after 30 seconds it will unlock.....
I have tried switching the lock out, it do not work....
Any tips?
Possibly the wiring in the pivot rubber (between tailgate and the body) worth a look first mate
I am unable to open using remote, switch in the door......an audible sound is there from the boot lock while i press the remote or door switch....... now using the key to open the boot (polo sedan..... vento...)
What could be the reason?? Boot gets locks firmly and can be opened by inserting the key
