Felt so sorry for little Nicholas Knatchbull. None of them deserved that end but especially him 😢 Most interesting Paul.
Another young lad died on the boat.Paul Maxwell.Very sad for them and the family.
Thank you Paul and Alan for all the history of this Beautiful Abbey
Fantastic video Paul an History lesson rolled into one I’m a Veteran of the RAF REGiMENT & I started my service in the year Earl Mountbatten passed in 1979 I loved every minute of it well done buddy 🦍👍
Awesome Gary, I’m ex RAF Regt too, but I had an injury ( Torn Achilles) after training and ended up in catering so I bought myself out.
@@UnusualThings1 What a coincidence Paul we are both Ex Rockapes I went on to serve on No 2 Sqn after serving 4.5 yrs on QCS /KCS now!!
There's something about old churches that make me feel at peace.
It's the calm I think.
Granted, I haven't been inside of one for awhile now due to being crippled up at this stage in my life that it's getting very difficult for me to get around.
I'm not really a religious person to begin with, but one can't help but admire the craftsmanship that went into building them.
Thanks Paul.
Oh, by the way...WHERE'S THE SNOW THERE!?!!!
You lucky bugger.
Here I am still cursing the snow we have in Saskatchewan Canada. Can't wait for spring so all of this will melt.
Cheers man.
And a big shout out to Allen!! for all the info he shared. Wonderful history.
-Jerry.
Cheers Jerry, no snow here 😆
Wow what a interesting video with lots of info from Alan about the Abbey. King Charles idolised Lord Mountbatten and was heartbroken when he was tragically killed. Thank you Paul xx
Tragically 🤔
He was a dirty nonce.
Never mind at least he still had Jimmy savile and rolf harris
@@johnadams732
What a sad ,bitter, small minded comment.
The Royals have met thousands of people in "show-biz" how is it their fault if some of these "stars" turn out to be bad apples?
Savile duped everybody: Only his death revealed his sick history. Savile & Harris will not be the last to be exposed.
I am from Malaysia. We still learn about him in our school history subject. Thanks for showing the gravesite of Lord Mountbatten. There is a street named after him in Kuala Lumpur
Thank you Paul, another very interesting history. Historically he was actually regarded as a very poor Naval Officer and many of his tactics were flawed and severely criticised by his peer Officers. It is believed he was sent away as Viceroy of India to get him out of the way ! I believe he had a troubled married life. I have been to Romsey but never visited the Abbey yet, but I will. I fly fish on the River Test, just up the road. It is a most beautiful part of England and every time I go fishing down there it is like a time warp back to the 1950’s !
Mountbatten had a long and somewhat checkered career. Overseeing India's transition to independence was a poisoned chalice. His wife had frequent affairs with other men. I think he wanted one of his daughters to marry Prince Charles. I've fished the Test at Wherwell. You are very fortunate to live in the vicinity of such a beaautiful river.
@@geoffpoole483 I don’t, that’s the problem !! I have to come 200 miles from the East Midlands. I go three times a year for two days to Leckford and really enjoy it. It’s expensive but good. I must find time to visit Romsey Abbey 👍
What a fabulous bit of history, you struck gold in finding that guy with his knowledge of the Abbey. We hadn't Abbey here in Reading which was destroyed by Henry because of his war against Catholics.
Wonder where Henry Vlll is buried?.
Mountbatten was a poor officer and not a decent guy. However liked the history nice one paul.
@@ontherocks8712 You know what they say about opinions, i didn't know him so i don't judge from gossip.
Hi Paul watching from Australia, been here 30 years, originally from Southampton. Been a while since I have been in my hometown and was really great to see the old places I used to go too.miss buildings like this, so old and full of information. I still remember when Mountbatten was killed, terrible time in history, thanks again
Excellent history too. I am so glad you got into the Abbey.
Thank you for showing this... I remember Charles was so upset over his death because he was like a mentor to him.
Church tour was a bonus and how kind that someone gave you the time to chat about it.
I love our history, that was great a tour from Alan. My Grandfather was a Marine in ww2 he was sent to Burma . Grandad was crossing a river with his fellow troops. Grandad was bitten by a snake. His fellow troops pulled Grandad out of the water. A fellow Marine took the Bayonet off his gun and cut the poison out of of my Grandads leg. They wrapped his leg in what they had and carried on. My Grandad would never speak of ww2. He only told me what happened to him and showed me his leg.. I was a child and his leg looked liked it hurt. I hugged him. All soldiers. I salute you
Oh, what a story! Thank you for telling us. Greatings and very best wishes from Germany, Gertrud👍🙏🌹
Lord Louis Mountbatten passed me + fellow Troop members (9) for duty in 1976 as Royal Marines Commandos - didnt realize as a 17 year old to his standing in world affairs... Rip Sir. ✝
What a treat! Thoroughly enjoyed this gentlemen appearing and gaining knowledge through listening to him. Great video on your channel. Thank you
Thank you so much to Alan and your self for such a lot of historic information x
Thank you , Paul and Alan for the history tour 😺
Paul that was so interesting Thankyou very much. I never knew where he was buried but I know now. What a beautiful place, to think of the craftsmen who built that, all gone now but this ❤place still stands in memory of those brilliant people. A very interesting and informative video. Well done.
Hi Paul.lovely video,I remember lord mount battens death…So sad …I love Romsey Abbey , I walked in last March and the people are so lovely and welcoming in the Abbey…I had just come back from Auschwitz and feeling so heartbroken.I was able to light some candles …beautiful place I will visit again …Thankyou Paul X
I remember the day so well as my eldest daughter was born the day after.
Terrible times with IRA terrorism in those times. A favourite and favourite of Prince Charles.
Thanks for all the information today
Love that bit of history today Paul ❤
That tour was amazing, thanks again for sharing it with us x
Fantastic. So glad you stumbled upon that caretaker who was willing to speak on camera. Made the experience that much better.
Thanks so much for sharing.
Wonderful! Loved all the history. An enormous thank you Paul xx
I live in Southampton and when I go to Romsey I always pop in to the Abbey. The ladies and gents who are guides there are always so welcoming and ready to impart their knowledge of the place. Lovely video. Did you see the medieval graffiti? Worth a visit for that alone.
Thank you Paul and Alan, so informative
I was 11 when this happened and remember it so well.
Once again Paul, an excellent and informative video
Brilliant Paul! Defiantly good and thank you Alan!
What an amazingly informative tour. Had you have had the full tour I think that the video would have been over an hour long. I know that you was there for Lord Mountbatten but to find out the history of the place was exceptional. Well done Paul for helping to keep history alive.
thank you so much for sharing this. i truly love your stories.
What a beautiful abbey great interview with the kind man Paul always looking forward to the next chapter thank you Paul 🤓
Great interesting and historical video. Loved the Abbey, thanks for educating me. I remember the day of Mountbatten's assassination well as my family from Ireland were holidaying in Iceland at the end of the summer holidays and Icelandic people came running up the street calling us murderers...
That in itself is a very interesting thing to read Paula, thankyou 👍
another brilliant video thank you Paul
Very interesting Paul and respectfully Done as Always. Loved the History Tour xxx
Thanks Paul very interesting, love your videos.
Always look forward two your videos very interesting thank you Paul
I do remember Lord Mountbatten being interviewed and he said when he goes he wanted to not know about it. How prophetic it was. A very sad way to go, with other members of his family.
Alan was really helpful and Paul once again ❤ love you video and your UA-cam channel. Take care and safe travels whenever you’re journey takes you.
History tour was great. As ive always been interested in the Saxons and Norman architecture.
Wonderful, well done Paul.x
Thank you, Paul and Alan, for the wonderful history lesson of The Abbey Church of Romsey.
Thank you Paul
As a history fanatic, I loved this video. Amazing old building filled with so many interesting objects and memorials.
Great episode and to seethe Abby was a real bonus thanks Paul
Stunning. What beautiful architecture in Great Britain or the UK as a whole. America is so brand new compared to the UK. The history amazes me. Almost 100% sure we should be visiting in September. Great Britain, Scotland, Ireland of course, a quick run to Paris to see Jim Morrison's grave. Mostly we are going to retrace our ancestry. Really cool channel, you have that comfortable way about you and how you present. Very enjoyable.
Thank you Paul and your guest Alan. I love old buildings and history.
Absolutely amazing, thank you Paul and thank you Alan, very interesting information 😊
Absolutely brilliant video ❤
Really interesting to hear all of that history about the Abbey itself. Thanks Paul
Love to here an learn new things you do such a great job glad we found you God bless
Great video again, and a great tour

WONDERFUL VIDEO PAUL
LORD MOUNTBATTENS GRAVE
AND A HISTERY TOUR AS WELL
THAT MAN ALAN WAS A REAL GENT WHAT A BEAUTIFUL ABBEY
AS WELL
LOTS OF INFO TO TAKE IN AGAIN THANKS PAUL
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK 🥀
Thank you for an amazing tour. I have never heard of this abbey. Lord and Lady Mountbatten were very colorful individuals with apparently a colorful marriage. If I am ever in the Southampton area this is a venue I would like to visit. All the best from Texas.
Another great video and a very impressive history lesson with Alan who gave you some fascinating facts about the beautiful abbey more of those please Paul well done you pat on the shoulder
Thank you Paul brilliant, what a lucky find with Allan.
What a lovely man to tell you a lot about the Abbey very interesting thank you paul.
I love the architecture of church’s, Cathedrals and Abbeys and the history behind.
Realy enjoyed this video very interesting thank you .
Thankyou paul, very interesting.
Interesting you pointed out he was of German descent as 80% of all internments at St George’s chapel in Windsor are in fact German. The Royals name is Sachsen Coburg und Gotha and related to Glücksberg/Battenberg. The FBI have a dossier on Mountbatten claiming he was an unsavoury character and this has been published in The mainstream press. Most Royals are laid to rest in St George’s, but obviously not him. Good work again.
Such a beautiful Abbey, always amazes me how these buildings are built hundreds of years ago and are still standing! Fantastic 👏🏻
Super video! I like learning about the buildings too.
Great vid this time we'll informative to know about our History and the Abbey where Louis was interned. Love you loads from Elizabeth in Maesteg Bridgend South Wales 💘
Thank you, I found that most interesting!
Very interesting!!! Thank you very much.
With greatings from Germany,
Geetrud👍🙏🌹
ANOTHER AWESOME VIDEO :)
Loved this one, because of the history of Romsey Abbey. I was born in Southampton, but left when I was twelve to emigrate to Australia with my family, I’m now 72. Incredible the age ,the craftsmanship and the history behind the buildings in and around Southampton and indeed Great Britain.
Wow just loved the video and the history Thanks
I’ve always looked forward to you vids, but this is a no for me.he had a dark side to him.
Which is?
He certainly did just recently saw a report about his alleged behaviour , thought it would surprise me but it didn't.
I have to say, LM has such a bad rep that it can’t just be hearsay. I hate him being portrayed as anything positive.
I used to travel by bus to sligo, passing near the coast with views across to mullaghmore and classiebawn castle..its stunningly beautiful scenery, the castle can look quite spooky on overcast days.
Thank you Paul, wow that Abbey is steeped in history, I couldn’t believe how much history it has. I’m actually watching a program all about Vikings and some of what was mentioned in this video is what has been mentioned in the program I’m watching. I’ve watched this one twice now.
Lord Mountbatten didn’t deserve that death and neither did the other members of the family who were killed by the bomb. Heart breaking.
Thank you again Paul, I would have loved to visit there just to go into the Abbey but no chance now of that happening xx
Thanks Paul for Quite an interesting video, might plan a road trip down there myself as I can see the church is so fascinating ❤
Couldn’t hear very well though but still, just about heard most of it😊
Thankyou Paul Alan interesting on the abbey❤
Great information guys. I remember when Mountbatten was murdered, dreadful shock.
Round of applause for Alan! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Another great video Paul, well done Alan for the info x
Was only there myself couple hours ago. Fascinating video thank you
Hope bump into you one day
This vid was 💯. Absolutely amazing & the history too.
Ty so much for sharing Paul. Have a good one 👍 x
Amazing video again,Paul. Love how Alan helped out with the info on the church as well as Lord Mountbattern too xx
How lucky you came across Alan, it filled in some more holes in my history knowledge. Great video, thank you once again
So interesting and informative Thank you for yet another GREAT video 🖐
I loved it!!!!!❤
Interesting video 👍👍👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Fascinating video as always I’m not religious in any way but find it fascinating looking around abbey’s and churches
My father's captain on the Kelly ❤ he was devastated when Lord Louis was murdered. This was really interesting, Paul ❤ thank you
Hi Paul it’s pronounced Sligo like Slygo…great video feel so sorry for the two young boys
Beautiful church!!!
Keep doing this great video i really enjoy them thanks Paul 😊
Wow that was so amazing, I'd love to walk round there. God bless Lord Mountbatton, may he rest in peace. Thank you Paul for this.
By the way, it's pronounced Sly go
My grandfather was from County Slygoe in Ireland, i have irish and italian blood, oh dear haha xx
This is one of those that you remember where you were when hearing about it. i was just leaving oulton park racetrack after watching motorcycle racing that day. heard the news on the radio.
Omg I’m really looking forward to this, I look after his old secretary who is over 100 years old and has incredible stories of him, she says he was a very nice man to work for.
Can’t wait for the video ❤ x
That’s awesome, and great to hear. Hope you enjoy it tomorrow 🙏
@@UnusualThings1 I enjoy every video you make Paul! ✨👌🏼🖤 x
@@coconutisland3634 Thank you 🙂
wow, youre looking after a living part of history.
You should write down the secretary's stories for the future
Hi Paul, you should do Billy Fiske’s grave in Boxgrove priory ( just outside Chichester ) A very interesting story and the newer Priory has some beautiful stain glass windows dictated to him.
You struck gold with Alan. WoW.
Thanks
Thank you Joe 🙏
@@UnusualThings1 your welcome paul 🙂
Liked the vlog from Margaret P
I was born in Romsey Hampshire 1964 right next door to lord Mountbatten estate in the old hospital.
Later went to school at the lord Mountbatten
Thank you, Alan! Lord Mountbatten was such a great man.......he also has a beautiful cenotaph marker at Westminster Abbey if you ever get a chance to visit. May he RIP. Thank you Paul for another great video!
Great man 🤣
Who is your idol Jimmy Saville ?
@@bigbernie7260 You misspelled "Savile"....which shows the depth of your absence of knowledge. A bottomless pit.
Love the video. Mixed feelings about Mountbatten he had many ideas above his station which have left problems still around today.
What a wonderful man giving you a history lesson so interesting great video as always
Brilliant, thank you for sharing the enjoyed watching the history 👍😊
