- A new work by Anna Meredith and 59 Productions, Five Telegrams draws on communications sent by young soldiers in 1918 and features specially produced digital projections, creating a unique spectacle. With the BBC Proms Youth Ensemble conducted by Sakari Oramo. Filmed outside and inside the Royal Albert Hall.

Spectacular show. But actually the piece works just as well even without the special effects. Probably the best world premiere of the 2018 season.

Impressive. Why does the BBC not care to credit the visual artist(s) and or the technicians who made those incredible projections? How did they sync them to the music? Poor information …

Such a disaster ! The music is wonderful. The visual effects are amongst the best I have ever seen. BUT, I COULD NOT HEAR/ UNDERSTAND THE FIVE TELEGRAMS.If only, the telegrams were projected on a digitized screen it COULD have bee marvelous.
They weren't actual telegrams. Each movement was based on a method of communication used in WWI. There was a small text in the choral movement 'Field Postcard', but the other 4 were instrumental only.
@@tmbr1262 And from what I understand, those postcards were pre-printed forms dictated by the War Office and handed out. Soldiers had to send them as-is, they couldn't provide even the smallest details of their actual lives in uniform. But they did send one very important message by their existence and arrival: "I am still alive."
