Just subscribed, can’t wait to see the progress that you intend in opening up the lakes 👍
Thank you, hopefully I can make something out of it all.
Your lakes used to contain some cracking tench and a fair number of carp. Lake 3 used to hold an enormous pike. Good luck with it! Glad someone is going to take care of it.
Everyone I've spoke to has said there's no carp left in the lakes but what we're going to do is sort the middle lake first as thats the easiest for access, we're going to do a survey with a radar drone and a few spot nets see what we can find, then once I can get access to get a boat on the water we're going to cut back all the overgrown trees, drag out the weed and the broken branches from the storms and get some agitators in. This will be interesting as there's no power to the property so I'm going to be doing a fully off grid solar install.
Just subscribed, looking forward to following the journey of your project 👍👍
Thank you, hopefully i'll keep it interesting :)
What a brilliant adventure and challenge, I only wish I lived closer so I could of helped as I run my own garden business (larger stuff not domestic gardens) and of course a keen angler, a lot of grafting needed but the end result could be well worth it. Definitely subscribing to follow the progress.
Didn't think your pilot skills were that bad!
All the best!
glad it interests you, its gonna be a lot of hard work I've just been out today to look at compact tractors and mowers/post knockers/pipe layers/augers and bucket front ends too I have under estimated the amount of equipment/manual labour to do it all :) hopefully I can make it a lovely space though not only well looked after but full of wild life.
@DavesBoat I'm sure it'll be stunning Dave, big project though. My advice on tools and equipment if funds allow mate is buy the best you can afford ie stihl, John deere etc etc, it'll be worth it in the long run and reliability is priceless.
Unfortunately I'm in Chelmsford, Essex otherwise I'd volunteer some help for work parties. ☹️
That is some of me that is!
Great find and good luck, would love to come fish it!
@@1spongeygit well if things go as I hope a simple channel membership and you can 😄
Cracking project good luck😀😀
@@stephenbowers-sp3qn thanks
thats awesome pal , if you need an experienced digger driver for any work give us a shout .the mooring is a great idea and when i first started watching the video i was thinking a small marina lol .
@@chris-living-the-dream well the nature reserve lake at one time did indeed have planning for a marina but that was abandoned in favour of building houses and the uproar from the villagers about a potential marina wow that's a headache I don't fancy right now, the EA are gonna be difficult enough to get permission from them for a small pontoon. And maybe a hydro power generation station 😁
@@DavesBoat the pontoon would a be great start ,hopefully ill get out up the trent this season , ill just need to find a new crew 😀
I'll come crew for you if you'll let me video it :)
@@DavesBoat yeah that would be cool pal , ill be at burton waters doing some jobs on my boat on and off all week if you fancy popping over for a drink .
@@chris-living-the-dream May be able to pop through on Wednesday just waiting to hear from Aston when they're coming to swap cars around
Just subscribed buddy good luck with the project I can’t wait to fish your side of the river I fish the other side is it going to be day ticket ? 👍🏻🎣👍🏻🎣
Thanks for following along, it won't be a public access fisheries but invite only I'll be providing more details when I've managed to get more stuff done.
I live not far from those lakes. The Angling club I belong to had a look at those lakes. But decided not to take it further.
@@johnburton894 they certainly need alot of work
Nice vid, piloting fine too.. The old Walt Bowlers place, you have lakes two and three plus the river, the lake you dont have held good carp well over thirty pounds and is much lamented by local anglers. The river is a good stretch you will have good barbel fishing, will not be unusual to get barbs to 15lb and big chub too, the odd river carp and some good pike. Lake 3 was famed for its big chub and myself along with others fished dead baits for them and it was not unknown for seven and eight pound chub to be caught. Both lakes were well known as good mixed fisheries but the big floods we have had will have moved stock about both in and out so could be anything in the lakes now and fish thrive on neglect.. Looking forward to see what you do and how it progresses..
@@stuart.the.pear.1 that's the one. Several people have pulled the good chub in the river on me but I've only seen barb and carp pulled out myself and I've had no luck on lakes or river for predators. Apparently the lakes haven't flooded in 35 years though as when bowler quarried them the spoil raised the overall level to be a good 5 to 10m in some places above the river. The bottom end has river pegs but they're all collapsed so I plan to rebuild them.
I'd love to open up as a commercial fisheries but the villagers are already after me with pitchforks so that's gonna be a hard push so it'll be invite only lakes for myself and friends and UA-cam members for now.
My immediate intent though is to rewind it sort hedges out and encourage bio diversity.
@@DavesBoat Have a word with Swimbooker or Catch they operate online booking so if you want to open up you can have people book for so many days/nights etc you can dictate times of entry how many you want on at a time so can limit noise etc worth a chat with them if you want to have paying anglers.
What a venture, good luck to you fella, i’ll be watching with interest 👍
@colinwakeling6367 thank you
Hi Dave the moorings would be fantastic. The pub moorings are abit small. And Cromwell is small once a couple of narrow boats are on the floaters. So if you did it would be a great addition I would be happy to pay for over night stay.
Cheers Rob.
@@makingmemories149 it's one of the things I'm hoping the EA will give me approval for
@ look forward to the updates. If you see us on the river give us a shout and have a chat.
Good luck with your project
@makingmemories149 will do 😁
Hi when I was younger used to drive down there and fish i think it was called manor fisheries the ponds use to hold a good head of fish and the Trent good for 20lb of roach n Chubb if my memory serves me right the owner invented Newark needle float and there was a tv series when they tried to get fishing on tv that was based there
Correct on all counts, it was owned by Bowler (the inventor) he eventually ran out of money and it was sold to a pair of brothers who have held it since then and kinda abandoned it, it was let out to the north muskham village angling club for a while but even they kinda abandoned it in the last few years as the lakes became unfishable due to neglect and poaching.
Good luck
Thank you
You could try a deeper fish finder. It'll be able to show you fish if there are any and also features and weed
I have a company lined up to come and do exactly that for me but I need my fisheries licence through from the EA first as they need to get EA permission to work on the waterways.
@ I was going to suggest using a company too. There was one that creates depth maps for lakes. I looked into it when I was developing my Carp Fishing Simulator game.
Will be very interesting to see what you do with it all - do much opportunity and potential income to earn.
