Nice to see the process. I assume the rock facing technique would still work with concrete coping as opposed to stone and intend to give it a shot; I had a fairly lazy contractor put in a paver seating wall that needed a lot of finish work which they completely neglected, e.g. a lot of flat and rough edges that weren't deburred, and capstones that were only rock faced on two sides but not finished with a rock face on the ends. I'm just going to rock face them myself because dealing with tradespeople who aren't as attentive and thoughtful as you are is an exercise in grief these days. Even if I screw up, it would still look better than the flat edge from a concrete saw and won't cost me any grief dealing with trunk slammers. 👍

The rock facing will work for concrete caps also. I see a lot of guys who leave the ends saw cut / smooth, big no-no in my opinion. You need to have the same textured face on the sides as the front and backs, very lazy to not do that. I'm sorry you are not pleased with your contractors, that seems to be more common for sure. I love what I do and take pride in my work, it is all about quality. That is what gives you a good reputation. Good luck fixing your cap stones! ✌

nice! you made that look way easier than it is. you are a craftsman. I have a carbide nibbler pliers for thinner pieces, that i am no good with either. :)

Thank you. I love rock facing, very fun! I have seen those kind of pliers before, pretty cool. ✌

Score it with a grinder try using a piece of angle iron within the the range you don't want an over bite.... this will limit the range of options for the chisel's shockwave to go. You can still pitch it, but if it breaks independantly... what would normally be an over bite, winds up being okay. Unless you screw it up hardcore, or if there was an unexpected fracture.
You'll still need to do the same thing, on the other side, pitching it, but without the angle iron. (all this done in a dry sand bath, so as to control vibrations in the stone.)
