    Description from bbc.co.uk:
    CYRANO DE BERGERAC
    by Edmond Rostand
adapted for radio by John Tydeman
Cyrano de Bergerac is, perhaps, the greatest classic romance. Set in 17th century France, it features the eponymous poet-swordsman with a misshapen nose but abundant panache who falls hopelessly in love with the beautiful Roxane. She, alas, loves another, the dashing Gascon soldier Christian de Neuvillette and Cyrano finds himself acting as the young suitor's ghost writer, pouring out exquisite love poems to win the day.
This production uses Anthony Burgess's fine verse translation of Rostand's ever-popular play. Cyrano is played by Kenneth Branagh, Roxane by Jodhi May and Christian by Tom Hiddleston. They make the most not only of the passion and poetry and the famously moving conclusion, but also the humour which threads through the play.
    Cyrano: Kenneth Branagh
    Roxane: Jodhi May

Hiddleston playing the boy at a loss for words. Now that's ironic! XD

I remember being very young and watching a filmed stage version of Cyrano. Although I hadn't grasped all of it then, I fell in love with it. Now I can revisit and "kiss it with my eyes" (well, rather, ears) all over again. Thank you so much for uploading this.

After watching Jose Ferrer perform this part for which he earned an Oscar there just is no other possible substitute be it on stage, radio, or if any other actor attempts to replicate the 1950 Film he will fail miserably

1:12:54 Branagh made me cry with his St. Crispin’s Day in Henry V. Now he has made me weep. I love Cyrano and I love this performance!

Kenneth Branagh is so astoundingly good, especially in audio performances, That is not to take away from his stage, film, or TV work. He's brilliant, but there are times when he does go over the top, like in his awful "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein" or the allegedly definitively "Hamlet" that sank under stupid stunt casting and clashing styles, not to mention Branagh's preening and posing. He had the opportunity to make the ultimate "Hamlet" in Blenheim Palace, no less, but he blew it. I saw him last year at The Armory on Park Avenue in "Macbeth" and he took everyone's breath away. He's old enough now to do the role complete justice. He's got an incredible instrument in that voice. I love this guy's ability.

In a sense. there's always a little bit of Cyrano in every one of us... I guess, I was very conscious of myself from the very young age being so blond as gold... I hated that color not less than Cyrano his nose... :) It started changing only when I put my efforts in education (and was paid back), not realizing in the least at that time that it was also a kind of hyper-compensation. This theater realization is as good as the French one of Comédie Française... The pronunciation is excellent!

I'm ashamed to say I always thought of Kenneth Branagh as a bit of
a Dick : I listened to this . And realised how brilliant he is .!
Sorry Kenneth . ( and your Murder on the Orient Express was excellent ! )
