    Jonny is in my opinion one of the very best tv/UA-cam presenters out there. Brilliant video as usual from him. Love that car

    Enjoyed the film - nice conversion & good ethos shown in re-using instead of buying new. Big Up to all 3 partners (and you Jonny too!).

    Brilliant film Jonny, strikes so many chords with me. "Don't throw it away, modify, update, revitalise it". Good message. Congratulations to Barbour & Selfridges.

    This is fabulous. The underlying message is so quintessentially British.

    Nice project. Would love to see a national ICE2EV retrofit scheme to allow people convert their petrol or diesel car to electric for approx £10-€15k combined with 0% 'green' financing over 5-12 years so they can use the money they save from fuel, tax, servicing, etc to cover the repayments.

      But you have the other problem. The rest of the car, and it's parts. Manufacturers and aftermarket will stop making parts past a certain age, unless it's a popular model.

    This is incredible! You need to do a proper feature on this Defender.
    How much is the conversion?

    What a wonderful film and you got to meet the increasingly talented experts at electric classic cars. What these guys do to vehicles is mind blowing and we are all privileged to have electric classic cars on our doorstep. To take a dirty diesel icon that I love and worked on during my apprenticeship; and bring it bang up to date with incredible performance just shows that electrification and upcycling is totally the way forward.

    I think Barbour’s get better as they get older! That probably holds true with Land Rovers too! Great video.

      Land rover's were never good. Unreliable, uneconomic, barn door engineering.

    Really nice video. It's a great ethos to have in this day and age. We need more companies like Barbour to show us the way in renewable resources and recycling.
    I'm off to buy a second hand Barbour coat...

    Great video Jonny! Love the fact that the original Defender is getting a new lease on life via an electric powertrain. That's nice. But sustainability really ought to be more closely examined. What's vegan leather? Vinyl (aka plastic). And Alcantara is another material derived from plastic. Sustainably sourced and treated leather -- created from by-products that would normally be discarded -- seems to be a more ecologically friendly approach and more in-tune with Barbour's ethos.

    If/when I had the money, I'd convert a 70s Peugeot 504 estate or an 80s E200 estate to and EV.
    Just curious, how much would that cost? Would it go down in the future?

  • @hazzalandy
    @hazzalandy 4 роки тому

    Ideal for electric conversion I'd say, no worries about the heater taking too much power, no real need to bother with a vac pump for the brakes, and noone would ever want to do more than 100 miles in one sitting

    Galvanise the chassis, make 110kw or 90kw batteries removable, maybe regenerating shock absorbers and you’ve the ultimate car.
