This song is actually Beyonces response to a radio DJ who made a joke about the group comparing them to the show Survivor because of members coming and going. “Who’s going to be voted off next?”

The concept yes…but they are still addressing the former members as well. You just had to be there during that time. A lot of the media has been cleaned up and removed over the years but it was really like a rap battle back then between the members. I can only imagine the fate of Destiny’s Child had social media been a thing back then like it is now.
Yeah, I remember this official story, but a lot of people with a conspiratorial mindset thought it had something to do with Aaliyah’s death and the events surrounding it. I definitely remember that chatter as well. IYKYK
This was the first song released off of their first album as a trio after 2 of the original members were kicked out of the group. There was a lot of back in forth in the media from members on each side. This song was basically addressing the former members. Fortunately all of the ladies have patched things up. Just today an original former Destiny's Child member (LeToya Luckett) posted a recent picture of ALL 5 members backstage at Beyonce's tour! This song was a hit but I'm so glad the ladies are on good terms now.
Hmm no technically it would be 'independent women' ..It was released for a soundtrack but recorded for and included on the album

Yolanda, unfortunately that story is false. This song wasn’t made as a diss to former members but to a radio DJ. Beyoncé addressed this topic back in 2009 in a performance during her DC set. Hope this helps :)
Original members were Beyonce, Kelly, LaToya and LaTavia. The latter 2 got removed, then Michelle and Farrah were in the group. Farrah was removed and the musical press compared being in the group to being on the show 'Survivor'. They made fun of that comparison in this song.
I believe Beyonces dad managed the group and her mother designed the outfits.

Farrah left the group shortly after and they decided to remain a trio with Bey, Kelly and Michelle

Yup Destiny’s child debuted in 1997 with 4 members Beyoncé, Kelly, Letoya and Latavia! And then Letoya and Latavia was out of the group and got replaced by Michelle and Farrah! Farrah didn’t last longer than a year in the group and then they became a Trio!
